From what I understand, in Firefight mode, as you progress, more and more Skulls become active... As I'm sure just about everybody knows, the different skulls have different effects, which will make firefight more and more difficult...

"Mythic" will double the health for all enemies, "Tilt", will make enemies practically immune to projectile weapons, "Thunderstorm", will give all enemies (just about) a field promotion... "Famine" will make all enemy weapons have half the ammo they usually would when dropped...

The one Skull I'm actually worried about, is Black Eye... In Halo 2 and Halo 3, when activated, the only way to get your shields to recharge, is to kill something with a melee attack. I would imagine being shot in that game mode is pretty much unavoidable, I'm not sure if I like the idea of playing with that Skull on, ever.

In my mind that could quickly go from "challenging" to frustrating rather quickly. Is anybody else hoping there will be some sort of option to avoid that?

I don't think there would be an option to avoid it, but the skulls are put on in an order. I get the feeling black eye would be one of the last skulls to activate on FireFight. As it really would be everything difficult.

I don't think that skull will be in firefight, since you get health through health packs, not recharging shields.

Well I know there are no Shield, but there is "stamina" which from what I understand, is basically the same thing from a gameplay perspective... You take hits, your stamina is depleted, you continue to take hits, but if you take cover or stop getting shot, your stamina will recharge.. Your underlying base health however, will not auto replenish...

I'm sort of jumping to the conclusion here that Black Eye effects your Stamina, instead of your shields..

Is it confirmed that the Black Eye will be in Firefight? If so, maybe it will allow a player to get shields over stamina, like how it gave Overshields in Halo 2.

EDIT: Or maybe there is Overstamina.

I love Black Eye. It makes you have to think very carefully.

That's not exaclty true, you'r Armor is the Shield, the more shots you take, the weaker your armor gets, it can recharge if you stay out of fire for a certain amount of time, but once the shots break through you'r Armor, you need to find a Health Pack to regenerate.

No you have stamina. Your armour is just pixtels and has nothing to do with health. Health is regenerated by Health Packs but it's not shown by your armour.

Whetever, it's the same thing as a Shield.

There will probably be options about which skulls turn on which don't. That would be great cause you could put on Black Eye and nothing else if you want a challange but if you just want something enjoyable and relaxing you don't turn skulls on.

The game does turn them on and off depending on the current wave, so I don't think there will be options for skulls in the whole Firefight, but yeah, I can be wrong.

I wish I was still legendary.

I think from the WU it's probably in firefight. If so, I'll go after any grunts stupid enough to charge, and just try to dodge bullets as much as possible.

Blackeye in firefight? Oh crap...

If there's one skull i hate in Halos, it's Blackeye.

I'd rather play with Iron on legendary than with Blackeye on easy. Melee is part of Halo but Blackeye forces me to just to melee, melee, melee, melee, melee....
That's because i prefer short/close range combat, without meleeing Covies though, too easy to beat them that way, considering bad AI.

I hope they replace Blackeye with something else for ODST. Say, damage reflect, even that'd be better.... well maybe not but...

I am actually trying to figure out how the skull will affect the health system, but I was guessing that it will probably recharge your health. This would give you the option to melee enemies or not based on your idea of the amount of health you have.

You have a health/stamina bar , I am not sure which one it is , but it is one of those.

Blackeye probably works such that when ever you lose Stamina, you don't gain that stamina back.

  • 06.09.2009 6:42 AM PDT

Black eye was confirmed in the ign 30 minute demo, ill edit in a link when im bothered.

  • 06.09.2009 6:53 AM PDT

I want blackeye in firefight. I love using melee.

  • 06.09.2009 7:13 AM PDT

Well i guess i'll get practicing then.

I'm so confused... In one of the E3 videos it almost sounded like skulls are random, but the weekly update seemed to imply otherwise..

  • 06.09.2009 3:22 PM PDT

what about what

in one of the e3 video joe said something like there will be skulls in firefight and one of them you have to melee your health back

Stamina.

And in the videos with IGN Joe Staten mentions how you may need to melee an enemy to get stamina back. So it looks like it's gonna be in.
