Yup, I've been living under a rock.
I've been watching all of these ODST videos from e3 and then I found some random comment about how it won't have competitive, skirmish based multiplayer, but instead it will have a Halo 3 multiplayer disk with all Halo 3 maps (plus 3 more).
Alright, seriously? I was actually excited about the prospect of doing a capture the flag game without dual wields and with all the changes made to the Halo 3 experience. Yeah, I've got a thing for Halo: Combat Evolved, and when I heard that people were comparing ODST to the original game, I was intrigued.
But guess what? In terms of multiplayer, we're getting four player co-op (which we already have with Halo 3) and survival... Of course, we also get that Halo 3 multiplayer disk which is full of the maps that most of us already own and a beta (Crackdown anyone?) to Reach.
I was actually willing to shell out 60 bucks for this game if it had skirmish based multiplayer. Heck, I'd buy a goofy DLC pack that allowed me to play a Halo 3 match with gameplay tweaks to make it feel like ODST.
Yeah, I know. "Don't like it? Don't talk about it." Well it's 3 in the morning, I'm tired, and a game that I was looking forward to is now off my radar. I'm obviously not the only one who cares....
Who knows, maybe some random bungie lackey will spot this and shrug away my lament. But what does it matter? The mass of fans that is the "bungie community" will surely make this a best selling title overnight, even though all they're getting is a short lived campaign and a survival mode with the name "firefight" tacked onto it to make it seem like a new feature. Sure you can say "but Reach!" Remember crackdown? It was a mediocre game and the only reason people bought it was for the Halo 3 beta. That's the best part, though. Bungie can take Halo 3, tweak a few things, and ship a 60 dollar package JUST to push 3 more multiplayer maps into the community, because we all know that half of the people are going to put in the multiplayer disc first and not care about the campaign.
Oh well, I'm going to sleep
