Subject: Spartan-034 (Sam) & Halo:Reach

Privet Caboose started a very interesting thread concerning the identities of the Spartans featured in the banner above.

Out of all of the characters that have been talked about one Spartan, in particular, has caused more debate than any of the others: the silhouetted figure on the far left.
What most people can agree on is that the silhouette reminds them of Sam, a Spartan candidate from the Nylund books.
But what is also argued is the fact that Sam is already dead before the Covenant hit Reach, so this gives doubt as to the silhouette in question.

So here's a few facts:

Sam, Spartan-034, was taller than John (Master Chief). In fact, he was a full head taller than John.

Sam was John's best friend.

Sam was killed after manually detonating a nuke on a Covenant ship. He was unable to escape as his suit had been compromised, preventing him from going into the vacuum of space.

In my opinion the character IS Sam. The game is called Halo:Reach, not Halo: The fall of reach. This means we'll play upto and including the assault on Reach.

I have nothing to say, except that the nuke was not manually detonated. sam was just guarding it :p

And he died doing so.

Okay. It wouldn't make sense for Sam to be standing in front of a backdrop of Reach being glassed, would it?

In the rare occasion that the game is based off the book entirely, Same still wouldn't be on there. It makes no sense.

IM A LEGIT 16

No offense, but Privet Caboose said all of this in his thread, so this is pretty uneccessary.

But yeah, it could be Sam, or it could not.
Who knows? We'll see in Fall 2010, I guess.

its because its not sam how hard is that to understand. he is dead: killed, by a nuke blowing up the plasma core meaning that he was incinerated instantly along with any one or any thing that was near the bomb when it went off. therefor he cant be in the battle for reach.

Sam died at the age of 14 in the year 2525. Reach was not attacked until the year 2552, which is 27 years after Sam died. If the game covers 27 years of events or jumps 27 years at some point I'll be shocked. Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Wars have all covered events in the games that happen in a days time or a couple days.

Of course... this is a whole new game so anything can happen. Right?

That's my point exactly. That's what I've been trying to tell a lot of people since the dawn of mankind!

Wrong.

Explain to me what was wrong about my statement. Sam was born in the year 2511, he died 2525, and the Covenant showed up at Reach August 2552. I count a 27 year gap...

Do you mind if I add this information to my Original Post in my thread?

You might have Sam for just a few missions until he dies and then Kurt-051 takes over.

28, Architect ll Deviantart ll TWP(Formerly Halo 3 in the WorkPLace) - Assistant Director ll SIP ll OTK ll DMH

Quick fact, Sam only has Mjolnir armor for one mission.

maybe the spartan on the far left is just standing closer to the screen, so he/she just looks bigger lol.

Remember Reach!

Not to play OP's advocate... Ok, I'm playing his advocate... Bungie themselves said that this picture is a composite of two different pictures overlayed... This means that the picture of the characters and the planet have no correlation other than the fact that they look cool together. This could be showing the team that was assembled before Reach was being glassed but they decided to put the team up against the Reach backdrop for dramatic effect. This game could be exactly what the OP is talking about. It could be a game that talks about what happens before Reach, during Reach and maybe a bit after Reach.

For "proof": "There are two compositional elements at play in the image: the planet Reach as seen from orbit, and some shadowy figures silhouetted on the horizon. I can't believe I have to explain this. "

Right there shows that the two pictures are completely separate and don't HAVE to be going on at the same time. That quote is from the Weekly Update...
