Looking at the in-game videos from E3, I found it hard to believe that no Elites were present. I think this is mostly due to Bungie trying to keep hush-hush on the plot, but even so, why not show the Elites? They are an important part of the Halo story and most people would want to know what's up with them.

Furthermore, the game does take place hours after Regret's ship leaves Earth, even before with the flashback missions, so wouldn't the Elites still be adversaries? I hope so. Elites are a lot more of a challenge to face than the Brutes. The Brutes go into some kind of beserker rage when they take enough damage. The Elites hold their ground and keep on truckin'. They are a lot less predictable than the Brutes. EDIT: Confirmed not to be in campaign by Bungie.

And if the Elites aren't enemies in the campaign, could they be your enemy in Firefight?

Two makes there more than speakers.

They all left and put the brutes in charge.

The game takes place during the Battle of Mombasa. In Halo 2, you still fought Elites during this battle.

Yeah, I kinda miss fighting the Elites. They seemed to be a bit more challenging than the other enemies. Hopefully they will be in firefight.

Wait. I just looked at the FAQs:

Who are my enemies? Will I fight Elites?
Your enemies are Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, Drones, and Brutes. You will not fight Elites in Halo 3: ODST.

I hope they just mean in the campaign. I hope they can be fought in Firefight at least.

In all the gameplay videos, you don't see any elites in firefight. That's pretty much a guarantee they won't make an appearance in ODST.

Well, I still have hope. :)

I can understand the Flood being absent from ODST, but why the Elites? Great adversaries. The only ones to wield Energy Swords in the Covenant. Actually, when you think about it, camo Elites with Energy Swords would be a challenge in Firefight.

In the Bungie podcast it is stated that some stuff was striped away to make a demo, so the elites could have been taken out to keep the secret.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I hope that the Elites come in Firefight. I think that if you put Elites in, Firefight would be alot more difficult since Brutes wont go berserk. Put up some Elite Ultras on Heroic or Legendary and we will see what squad has REAL team work :)

And where was this confirmed at?

In order to include Elites, Bungie would have to undo all the hard work they put into making Brutes replace them for Halo 3. Since ODST is essentially Halo 3, there are only three Elite types in addition to the Arbiter and Shipmaster. They don't have any unique qualities or advanced AI like the Brutes have. It would be a complete waste of time trying to bring them back to the glory they had in Halo 1 so Bungie not only choose just to roll with Brutes but even provide a fully believable backstory shortly after Halo 3: Recon was announced.

Notice: Halo Wars, 20 years before Halo 1, takes not of the shift in power that gives Brutes dominance over the Elites. It's perfectly logical in every conceivable way that you will only verse Brutes in ODST and not Elites whatsoever. Facing even one Elite in Firefight would detract from the experience, in my mind. It would be like a dumbed down Brute with no unique qualities. It jumps out of the dropship, Worts, and then dies horribly because it doesn't do anything awesome.

Another note to include is that Elites used the Plasma Rifle. While Brutes have a souped up Plasma Rifle. This is because you can no longer dual wield the Plasma Rifle and because Brutes never dual wielded anything in Halo 3. So it makes perfect sense to include a more powerful Plasma Rifle again. Elites wouldn't use that so it's a good indication that there are absolutely no Elites in Halo 3.

I really wish that Elites stayed as the main enemy force. I hate Brutes. Halo 1 on Legendary offered the most amazing enemy AI known to humanity. Brutes, not so much. But the fact is, no Elites in ODST. Deal with it and wait for Halo: Reach. We don't need all of these damnable threads complaining that the greatest enemy ever isn't the main enemy in a game that functions just fine without them...

Well. I should just copy this and post it every time someone asks where the Elites are. That was a little long winded...

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

They didn't all leave, remember Second Sunrise Over New Mombassa in the Halo Graphic Novel? There were Elites there trying to secure pasage to the Portal during Halo 2's timeline.

Hey, no complaining here, dude. I was just curious to why there were no Elites in the videos and if they would appear, as you put it, in all their Halo 1 glory during Firefight.

And yes, Halo 1 on Legendary was the bomb. Especially The Maw.

I highly doubt you will see Elites. Why? I don't know. I think the Bungie staff fell in love with these 8 foot masses of muscle and man-meat.

I always say if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Looking back at Halo CE through Halo 3, I can tell Bungie does not adhere to that philosophy.

I hear you, man. The campaigns have been getting progressively, well, worse, for a lack for a better term. Halo 2 and 3 are good, but they aren't in the same league as Halo 1 as far as story is concerned. Better multiplayers, obviously, but not-as-good campaigns.

I miss Elites. They were better enemies than Brutes.

Will they be in Firefight? I have little doubt that they will not.
Would it be epic winsauce with a side of fries? Yes indeed.

Hello! I'm a male!

Halo3:ODST takes time from right after the Covenant cruiser with the prophet of regret leaves new memboassa in halo2 though. At that point in the story the elites were still fighting us and the brutes still listened to them as leaders (to an extent). So yea where are the elites?

OMG
Master Chief w/o his Helmet!

That was before Master Chief even got there.
