well. cryogenics would help his age. but seeing as his squad mates 100% ODST survived the slip space rupture crash nulling that fact and the search was terminated because oni doesn't want civilians or rebels to gain access to unsc hardware like an HEV

But why would you stop an AI IDing the vehicle? He already knows what a HEV is. And no two crashes are identical. The Rookies pods smashed through two buildings and plowed into the ground at high speed. The others probably had a comparatively gentle touch down. And check the trailer, those fatality estimates are in it.

because imagine if the SI could id the HEV he'd have to go through secure UNSC databases which i dont think oni wants. and as for his crash it seems to vary from the first level and the trailer

The superintendent would have acesss to secure files that would be used to ID a regular ODST, he runs the entire city. He must see classified things often. However, your ignoring the fact that the superintendent estimated that there was a 99.99% chance of the rookie dying before he acessed the UNSC database. And you do make agood point about the crash, that's just a classic inconsistancy done for gameplay reasons with a watery reason to explain it(e.g. brutes in ODST)

Probably since he is the main character, a good portion of the story will revolve around him. I'm sure during the game we will find out more about the Rookie. The information is classified because Bungie has said that ODST is like a mystery game, so the main characters information is made to be mysterious.

He can be whatever the hell you want him to be. Until Bungie releases some in depth information about the Rookie, you can assume that he is a Spartan 1. We haven't been told otherwise, so whatever. But it's more likely that he is just your run of the mill (If that term applies to elite special forces troops) ODST. That classified information does make me wonder, though.

Same reason you never see Master Chief's face, nor do you know his name unless you read the books (Or until the end of H3). It's a clever psychology thing that makes you feel as if you're actual running around, gunning as a Spartan/ODST. I mean, if you play GoW you never feel like you're Marcus Fenix, etc.
I've seen The Chief's face.

I like this theory. Just to add some clarification this is the year 2552 in the game so expect people to age a lot slower. I think in one of the books it even clarifies that with medical advances humans were able to push there years to 175 or some were close to that. Sorry for the lack of details but i don't know were my book went :/

1- How do you know how young he is?
2- Spartan IIs didn't, but Spartan Is were just very highly trained kickass soldiers. There's no reason why they couldn't have a family
3- Cryostatis happens to every UNSC soldier, it's an everyday kinda thing in 2552
4- True. But that dosen't stop there being another reason why your name/age is classified.

  • 07.10.2009 5:42 AM PDT

well that idea is flawed for one reason. and thats his rank. if he was a spartan 1 than it means his like 50, same age as johnson. johnson if a seargeant major, which means that the rookie would also have to be around that rank, cause up until the rank of seargeant you automatically get their due to time served, after seargeant you have to earn the higher ranks.

also the whole reason that they don't show his name or age is the same reson they didn't show Mater Chiefs face, so that you can fell as thogh YOU are the character and not a fictionla person.

the rookies name is your name, and your age if you will. its just for your own entertainment and pleasure.

obviously you dont know much about the military I know plenty of 50+ yr olds that arent above the rank Lcp

Also ODST Helljumpers were supposed to be the enemy competition. Since the ODST's were trained mainly to compete against the spartans in level of combat. I believe it was Anderson? who developed the ODST's because he was jealous that the Doc's Spartans were getting all the funds and attention as the main effective ground force for the UNSC. I read Fall of Reach soo long ago, my memory might be a bit off in the names. Thats how I got my name though..

Okay lets see where to start. As always I'm going to number this for everyone.

#1. The game is called Halo 3 ODST. I don't know about you but if I find out that I'm playing a Spartan instead of a normal ODST I'm going to be pissed. The game's gimmick is based on the fact that you are not special anymore, you can't jump into combat guns blazing like the Chief (or even Johnson) does.

#2. People are saying that The Rookie's drop supports this theory. that only a Spartan could have survived the fall....what about Mickey. If anything this supports the opposite since he was promptly knocked out after the crash. Mickey however is in action on the bridge with Dutch immediately even after ricocheting off the Rookies pod and being caught in the EMP blast. Is he a Spartan too?

#3. The Rookies information is only classified and simple so we can feel closer to him. Like the Chief we won't see his face (This is based on the fact that we can't take his helmet of in Fire Fight) so Bungie wants us to kind of insert our face underneath that helmet. His name "The Rookie" supports this as well because if we played as Buck for example we wouldn't be playing as your standard ODST, since his been in numerous battles and even says in his Bio that if he ways any better, he'd be a spartan.

I think your confusing ODSTs with Spartan 3s. ODSTs were around before the Spartans. The Spartan 3s were trained by Ackerson not Anderson (Think you mixed up the name, there is no Anderson).

Were it so easy.

No. He is NOT a S1.. although there possibly maybe some utterly remote chance he is a S1.1, but it would be very, VERY unlikely, how many humans are there in 2525 or whenever he was born?? Billions. There are only 16 Spartan 1.1's at most (there are only 6 confirmed ones) Don't look into things too much man.

Oh and off the record.. I'm entirely positive JD stands for JOHN DORIAN... lol maybe not. FYI Dorian is the main character in Scrubs ;)

Oh and the only way we can find out if he's a S1.1 is to get him to induce an ungodly amount of alcohol because it is a 'fact' that S1.1 cannot become inebriated :D

Hush. If you’re quiet enough, you can hear it on lips of unborn babes.

Although it would be cool if Bungie put some deep connections to their Halo novel and graphic novel lore through their video games, I don't think they would do something like THIS. And for the last time, JD stands for John Doe - A nobody. Bungie put this in there because the Rookie is NOT the main character, the other squad mates are. The Rookie is just the way of telling the story to the player-but they make the player character a nobody so the player puts themself in their character's shoes. It is a way of storytelling, not a deep mystery in Halo lore.

Wow!!!!!! I was starting to lean more towards the Rookie just being there to move the story along and not having much of a backstory when more information started to come out but now I see that this may actually be the case if JD stands for John Doe. Why didn't I ever think of that?
