Subject: Halo 3: ODST's Stamina and Health system

So far I'm pumped for this game and don't have many complaints, but one major thing I must point out is in regards to the new "stamina" system that ODSTs now have.

Firstly, everyone knows that ODSTs do not have MJOLNIR armor, and therefore no energy shields. In this way, Halo 3: ODST's gameplay was supposed to be radically changed by this, forcing the player to be more aware of his health and use more strategy. Unfortunately, it appears as if the stamina that the Rookie has is an entire replacement for energy shields. The player takes fire without getting hurt until the stamina depletes, and then he starts taking damage, exactly like previous Halo games.

In this video, The Rookie appears to many spikes from a Brute Spiker and his stamina is affected, but he never actually takes damage. I'm concerned that if it wasn't Easy difficulty, then the stamina might be too strong. Note that in the Halo: Landfall videos by Neill Blomkamp, an ODST gets hit once in the chest by a Spiker and he is essentially incapacitated. I know that from a gameplay standpoint that would be stupid (unless perhaps on Legendary), but honestly, stamina should be depleted by at the most five spikes.

I'd like your opinions on this and also to be corrected if I have misinformation above.

All I can say is, this game better be challenge on Legendary, and I hope two spikes really do kill you.

Something like that. A challenging campaign would be nice. Halo CE was tough man. Since then campaign has been drastically dumbed down.

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

I was a little worried about stanima, but hopefully that was on easy. Stanima was just supposed to be a quick buffer, just to give you a chance to take cover, I hope it stays like that.

most people think Halo 2 is harder than halo ce...

anyways I really do think 2 hits should kill stamina and 3 hits kills your health

We (Other than those who played it at E3, Bungie, and God) have no idea how the health bar will be affected. The video is of a Bungie Employee playing, and it's a demo. Boy, how retarded would you look, dying in a game that you designed? That's why the demo has damage resistance up so much. Whether it's like that in the game or not is uncertain.

I hope its like that in the campaign, but for firefight, I'm not to sure if I want two spikes to kill me.

Also, this guy is right. When the Bunige employee (I know the name but I can't spell the last name) was playing the campaign, he had gotten stuck by a plasma grenade and didn't even die.

I watched a recent vid and the stamina did not regenerate at all, maybe because the odst may have to stand completely still for it to regenerate. If so this more of a challenge, and different from shields as they recharge even if moving.

I was thinking about that being a possibility, but if that's true Bungie should release some footage of how it will actually be in the game, just to give us a feel for what it'll be like.

Have you played both on Legendary? Halo 1 is harder, and in Halo 2 they're cheats you can use to help yourself along the way. The hardest part about Halo 2 legendary is Jackal snipers, and you just need a quick BR to headshot them.

On topic, do you mean 2 shots kills stamina and only 1 for health, or 2 for stamina and 3 for health?

In the demo he was invincible. He even got stuck.

well in halo 2 on legendary you die in about 5-6 shots and you have armor.

So this should be like you dying in 3-5 hits

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

Punch a marine. Wait a moment. Punch him again.

Now, punch another marine, but immediately punch him again.

Notice that the second marine died where the first one lived?

That's basically how ODST works. You're not "perfectly fine" just by hiding a few moments. If you take hits, it hurts. Stamina is a way of saying "hey, idiot, you're getting shot!" But once you take health damage, you can't regain that. It just makes cover far more important without screwing you completely.

You can take very few hits as an ODST. You stand in the open. You will die. Extremely quickly.

If realism was the only thing that mattered, every single hit would kill. ODSTs wouldn't be cooler than Spartans, they couldn't do things that Spartans can do, and surviving New Mombasa would be impossible. Legendary is going to be tough solely because you're going to take a lot of damage, very rapidly. If there was only a health system, it would basically be that one shot kill.

"Well, I just kicked that Brute's ass but I'm going to revert to the last checkpoint because he shot me and left me with 10% health remaining." It just ruins the game if you were too vulnerable.

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

It was most likely Easy because they wouldnt want to show a guy dying hundreds of times on a live demo.... Also you can tell because he was not even trying to fight the enemy, he was just letting the viewers see the brutes and he got shot multiple times. The enemy actually just stared and shot a few rounds every 10 seconds or so- that is the Easy AI

the bungie dude at e3 used a special dev cheat that makes them invincable.. ull notice he got shot...ALOT! but his hp never went down becuase of his dev mod cheat

the game will be alot harder than you think

specially considering plasma pistols can kill u :F

Non-Playable Charater

Will the Health Kiosk offer infinite amount of medical supplies? Like, maybe it could work so, that players could heal themselves out off combat, but while fighting or far away from Health Kiosk, it would affect the gameplay.

I just thought, that if the Health is limited, what will happen in Co-op? I would imagine players killing themselves to respawn with better health.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

It's going to play more like halo1 but with much slower charging shields and health bars that stay down. I think it's about as far as they should go with it, after all Halo is about gameplay/fun rather than realism.

I'm more Rad than you.

There most likely playing on easy with the in-freaking-vincible skull turned on so that they don't get embarrassed on tv.
