now i know that the two communities havent really seen eye to eye for whatever reason but over in the MLG forums we have collaborated a list of wants and ideas that we would like to see implemented into reach :)

now alot of these ideas are a stretch but its just an ideas thread with unlimited scope so dont be too critcal

the MLG community has based these interests so they benefit the MLG community but do not conflict with any interests of the Bungie forums community wants and ideas to prevent the game either "just becoming competitive" or "just being a casual game" so please do not post "i dont like MLG" because that isnt what the discussion is about

so enjoy the list of ideas we have had. taken from this thread at mlgpro.com

- an FPS
- net coding fixes to reduce bullet dropping significantly
- an upgraded forge to edit existing maps for weapons etc. perhaps forging out of the game engine? this would mean objects would go where you place them perhaps with 90 degree snap tools and wouldnt fall out of the air due to the game physics if you placed them there (no need for forge glitching)
- a mapmaker fully customisable no glitching necessary
- more indepth map testing
- remakes of the classic halo maps such as midship and other fan favourites.
- more origenal designed maps which are arena based
- a balanced weapon set which has been thoroughly tested to make sure each weapon has an individual purpose rather than replicating existing ones.
- theatre mode which allows you to send it to your computer and comes with a montage/machinima maker
- dedicated servers
- full awareness and crackdown on cheating and hacking
- a melee system which takes skill and is entertaining to watch in a fast paced atmosphere
- customisation in custom games fully. this means being able to control everything Such as: player movement speed intervals in 1%, to how much the weapons spread within the reticule, as well as respawn times, auto aim/aim assist meter and damage metres per each weapon, rate of fire, recoil, magnetism, reload time, melee reset time, grenade damage, grenade damage radius, grenade throwing distance.. I think that this would be the best feature as it would allow bungie to cater for their general crowd of casual gamers without hurting the competitive market
- customisable sensitivity more refined. instead of 1-10 how about 1-100?
- the ability to turn on/off dual weilding for every weapon
- visible health system
- button assignment to each task rather than a choice of button layouts
- the ability for bungie to bring out updates easily to meet the communities needs and requirements i.e. fixing glitches/hiding spots and bringing out miscellaneous items such as armour perms/new vehicles/weapons
- a new revised ranking system which everybody can agree upon
- a rank meter so you could see how far you are from the next rankup
- country specific searches
- CLANS
- Custom game finder
- the best quality graphics possible without compromising the lag/gameplay mechanics etc
- model specific searches (if elites are included they could have the option to keep them out of certain gametypes eg MLG)
- any starting weapon available in custom games
- optional weapon combos for custom games? thic could be kept out of matchmaking for the casual crowd but implemented in if wanted eg a quick reload like GOW?
- less time between animations such as: faster weapon switching, faster zoom to shoot capabilities after thew weapon has been switched, faster shoot after the grenade has been thrown
- adjustable Field of View or just a larger one to begin with
- Bots?
- halo 1 pistol or a weapon that can be customised so it can have its capabilities but nerfed for social matchmaking
- more ingame rewards such as medals (which have progressively gotten an increase from each game progressiuon)
- the ability to turn on/off game announcements such as gained the lead, tied the leader, lost the lead, ball taken etc

new suggestions i thought should be included:

- What about adjusting player spawn logic
- option to use Halo CE weapon spawn system
- Spectator mode?
- The ability to stack power-ups
- adjusting powerup sizes

haha MLG only care about MP.

most ideas sound ok.

I want a way where you can put bots against each other, like a scenario maker, where you could spawn marines and brutes and make them fight eachother.

Imagine a Halo campaign level editor like forge? Bungie would be the first to do this.

1. MLG doesnt actually just care about Multiplayer as a matter of fact :) there are a number of cummunity members including myself who enjoy the rich elements and depths of campaign aswell as an incredibly strong forge community

2. MLG members are fans of Bungie and their games and most have been since aslong as their release. most MLG members could tell you more about the games and bungie themselves than you could possible wish to know

3. this thread isnt to see whether or not bungie will listen to the MLG community it is just to show what we think would benefit the game they are making also why wouldnt they? we are a group of people who show alot of interest and investment in halo 3 and have been shown recognition from bungie already in a number of ways "sponser" "MLG playlist"

4. Orly?

:)

They may make them for the fans, but they seem to change things to cater to the hyper competitive. Not to be rude, but I could give a rats nut what the MLG community wants out of Reach. IMO opinion MP should come second in the priority list from the development process. Make a great game first, then worry about the MP.

fair point :) but did you know bungie started developing halo 3 multiplayer way before they started developing the campaign? :)

exactly why all of the competitive elements included above are mainly custom game extras which wouldnt be included in mainstream playlist and just allow the MLG community to customise the game to cater their needs

Yes, and that is my point. They have done that since Halo2, and both campaigns have been far weaker than the origional. At least Halo3's campaign was better than Halo2's, but as long as they keep building the game around the MP component, the story and campaign will suffer.

It's a little hard since there are two distinct types of Halo fans. Fans of Halo and it's universe and fans of Halo MP. Both groups have different wants and expectations, but they are on different sides of the spectrum.

  • 06.09.2009 12:21 PM PDT

I wish MLG hadn't made that list, because I can see Bungie not doing everything on that list just to mess with them

agreed i dont want to see either the campaign or the multiplayer suffer for reach as i am very interested in both i loved CEs campaign and am much looking forward to ODST and eventually Reaches :) you make good points dude :) listed in the OP is just what the MLG community hopes bungie can aim towards with reach multiplayer specifically. a multiplayer where you have the option for a fast paced competitive shooter or a casual crowd based shooter. where one is not compromised for the other :)

MLG needs a spell check system...

  • 06.09.2009 12:39 PM PDT

If there is any power to be found, it's within yourself, not your weapon.

Eek. No. MLG is way too competitive. They're way too focused on the competitive aspects of the game. They care little for all the other things that make Halo great. If it were up to them, all games would be BR games and we'd never have any variety.

MLG list proves that.

I'll take that bots though, if only because they're a common FPS feature and not necessarily a hardcore competition feature.

MLG needs to back off our Halorz.

Not that wouldn't like to see some of those things, but a few of them just seem like things that would only matter to the Hardcore community. If you could even call them a community. They're more like the HC Minority. And your post has a pinch of arrogance to it. Which is why I responded the way I did.... To get to my point... None of this stuff probably will happen. If it does, it won't be because the MLG community suggested it.

Halo: CE > > Halo 3 > Halo: Reach = Halo 2

Posted by: Foahda

Gameplay:
- Fall Damage
- Halo CE running speed
- Halo CE type spawns (Manipulating where your teammates spawn, etc.)
- Fix Teleporters so they're like Halo CE/Halo 2
- Crouching that actually matters in a gunfight (crouching low enough to dodge headshots and the like)
- Halo CE weapon timer spawns
- Less floaty jumps. Jumping lower
- Crouching to dodge melees
- Halo CE melee dynamics
- Halo CE Field of View (FOV)
- Better netcode (bullet registration, both client and server data collection)

Guns:
- Halo CE-esque gun ranges. This means where guns actually have some range.
- Halo CE Pistol OR a Rifle with Halo CE pistol's mechanics
- Halo CE Assault Rifle
- Halo CE Plasma Rifle (With Slow Down)
- Halo CE Rocket Launcher (Slow RoF, Huge Blast Radius)
- Halo CE Grenades (Slow fuse, huge blast radius and power)
- Halo CE Sniper (Fast RoF)
- Halo CE Shotgun
- Halo 3 Needler
- Halo 3 Plasma Pistol
- Halo 3 SMG
- Don't just add guns for the sake of adding them. Trying to balance all the guns made the gameplay of Halo 3 to suffer since there were way too many.

Maps:
- Prisoner remake
- Chill Out remake
- Blood Gulch remake
- Sidewinder remake
- Damnation remake
- Hang 'em High remake
- Lockout remake
- Midship remake
- Sanctuary remake
- Beaver Creek remake
- The Pit remake
- Guardian remake

Not asking for all the maps, but if they were to remake a few, they should be from this list.

Weapon control and map control should be two different things you have to fight for in this game. Not like in Halo 3 where practically all the power weapons spawn in power points on the map.

We want the game to return somewhat to what Halo CE set as the standard for the series. Medium paced gameplay with gun fights ranging from long range to short range, NOT rock-paper-scissors gameplay.

We (those who know the difference, and care) would very much appreciate this.

Your post right before this one:

Spartans were trained not to feel emotions so that could be a reason why their isn't much in the game.

On topic: Everyone needs to stop bashing MLG's opinions. Just because they are not similar to your own doesn't mean they're not necessary. I mean the whole MLG community could head over to the Halo Reach multiplayer wants and ideas and bash everyone of those ideas. I bet if this was some random Bungie.net member you guys would be all for this.

They're suggestions.

I fully support most of those things, especially when it comes to more customization.

MLG has Bungie's balls in a vice, so all these things will happen

  • 06.09.2009 12:57 PM PDT

OW

1. MLG is kind of stupid. I mean the people who whore BRs, Maulers, and rockets, and somehow say that's more fair than an Assault Rifle.
2. These are WAYYY too demanding.
3. I REALLY think you're not MLG, and therefore shouldn't be speaking for real MLG players.
4. Bungie makes games for people who like Halo, not MLG, MLG just happens to like Halo, so if you think Bungie will base their game off a couple little kids pretending to be 14 over forums, you've got the wrong developer.
