a melee system which takes skill and is entertaining to watch in a fast paced atmosphere
Care to explain this and why it is important to the gameplay?
It isnt, but it would certainly look better...its kinda boring right now. Its just like a little tap instead of feeling as though you are truly knocking someone.
As for MLG boiling over into other gametypes as someone brought up in response to one of my older posts...I haven't seen that at all. If you mean the inclusion of a Battle Rifle start in most playlists...thats not because of MLG. Thats because its necessary for balance since the Assualt Rifle isnt operable off of the spawn in the majority of maps. You have to have a Battle Rifle for balance purposes. As for other aspects of MLG...I dont see any MLG maps in other playlists, no increased damage, no decreased shield regen, no removal of weapons save for balance aspects.
Its not MLG thats impacting Bungie's decisions to remove certain weapons, its public outcry. People hated the maulers on maps, so Bungie removed them. Bungie has created Actionsack and continues to run Griffball Double EXP weekends....your argument that MLG is spilling over into the other playlists confuses me.
If your wondering about the removal of some of the equipment pieces, that was due to glitches with them and public outcry, not due to MLG's influence...
The Majority of Halo 3 gamers wanted change, not MLG players...MLG players stuck to playing MLG....sometimes the two coincide in which case those gamers still deserve a voice too.
I never said the MLG community pushed change, I said people who prefered certain aspects of MLG but not their settings pushed changed. Preference aside the BR does not balance gameplay for all, it only benefits the competitive. It is not a basic weapon by any means, it's utility is far higher than that, which is why it's favored by the competitive. No one is "wrong" for their individual taste, but that doesn't make it right as a starting weapon. This makes individual playlists geared more towards competitive gameplay, which is the purpose of the MLG playlist.
The streamlining of weapons on maps is another effect. Whether prefered by some or not, having weapon variety allows for diversified gameplay, not simply a BR fest with the occsaisional sniper or laser thrown in. MLG thrives in this setting, and as i've mentioned it can be fun, but it needs to stop within that playlist and not migrate to other playlists.
While I don't ever see them bringing the custom setting to things like damage and movement, the playlists and weapons on map are influenced by those that wan't competitive gameplay, but don't want MLG. It's not any individual groups "fault" but i'd rather them not get too much farther into it as it only caters to the competitive (however you define it) and not all players involved.
