Subject: Comparison of the Halo 2 and ODST Slipspace Rupture

One small bit of discontinuity in logic is given since you've synchronized the sound on the two events.

The Halo 2 version of the event takes longer to carry out -- the rupture opens and the ship flies through, whereas in Halo 3 it opens and the ship sort of gets pulled in like hyperspace. I'd chalk that up to artistic license, though, since it's such a minor concern. I rather enjoy that the ship sort of shudders and begins to glow all across the hull when it enters slipspace. Says something about their advanced technology that you can see it all around the ship, not just at the nose.

I like the fact that its from a completely different, more personal viewpoint in ODST.

That being said, that audio overlay was amazing. The moment Lord Hood says "Green light, green light to engage", Dare gives the order to adjust their trajectory.

This could actually be how it happened.

The Halo 2 slipspace sequence was a lot longer than the ODST sequence - the attack carrier slowly flew into a massive ripple before being pulled in completely (Halo 2), and in the ODST version, the hull of the carrier is quickly illuminated as it goes through the slipspace sequence, also faster than the Halo 2 version.

Seeing the damage that entering slipsace did (the terminator portal effect that destroys everything it touches for example) was spectacular. Watching the space elevator sway around was cool too, though I would have liked to see the EMP engulf the whole city.

Q( ' c ' Q) The Boxer

Yeah seeing the EMP wave take over the city and the bus flying was one of my favorite parts of Halo 2 really looked like a movie scene. Another discrepancy is the space elevator island. The island is only teh elevator in ODST, but in Halo 2, there's actually a district there with buildings as far as I can tell.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

Halo 2 one looks good, but Halo 3 ODST one looks slightly better, if you can get over the fact that it looks a little bit like a Black Hole.

i LOVE seeing In Amber Clad. that kinda stuff is awesome.

My DeviantArt Gallery - For my Photoshop stuff, go have a look!

In my opinion, ODST's looks much better, which makes sense with imporved graphics and the like.

I never noticed Amber clad on the ODST trailer until now, it's off scale, but it's not that important really...

Thanks for the vid. Saw in Amber Clad. It was interesting to observe each one after the other.

I'm not sure, but shouldn't you see the Amber Clad ship go through with the covenent ship?

You do. You just have to look really closely. there was a thread on the forums at one point showing a picture. The Covenant Carrier is just so big that it completely dwarfs the InAmberClad, which is why it's so difficult to see.

Datass

I just noticed that you can see the orbital elevator start to lean at 1:33 and then get pushed away

What are you talking about? I'm just posting? Not bumping. When I got on B.net today, it was one of the top listed threads.

So the Master Chief IS IN THE GAME!

Just really small in the In AmberClad!

...Love, love is a blind man's game, you have to look around to know where you are...

doesn't the slipspace rupture from halo 2 look a tad bit smaller than the one in halo 3 odst?

THe odst one is even better than the halo 2 one.
You can even see the orbital elevator start to crumble when during the emp blast too!
It's damn creepy too - just look how fast it bends!

It sort of is the difference between the main halo series and odst side story.

While obviously ODST's looks more flashy, what I'm meaning is that Halo 2's shows you the main broad view on a big scale. ODST's shows you the view of it from an individual.

Wort Wort Wort???

Also, hilarious quote:

True. Now that I think about it having the -blam!- beat out of you with a pool ball in a tube sock by your degenerate pimp is the better choice.

.

Very interesting. Like some people already said, its too bad you don't see more of the ODST version - it is obviously graphically superior.

Also, I wonder if the covenant ship is one of their larger flagship type ships. For some reason I always think that the covie and human ships are about the same size, but I know for a fact the covenant do have ships that are much much larger than the UNSC ships.

Either way, nice job.

I love them both, but I prefer the Halo 2 cutscene simply because it really shows the size and scale of the rupture as it destroys the city. In ODST, you see it for a second, but then you are spinning out of control and can't get a good view.

Yeah, the Halo 2 rupture was nicer because of the visual, but be honest.
Isn't a first person view of a drop pod from orbit much more bad ass than the rupture?

Regret's ship is and Assault Carrier. In Amber Clad or Forward Unto Dawn could fit inside it. Not the Pillar of Autumn though. Somewhere on Halopedia, there is a comparison picture.

I wanted a gumball so I said "Yo devil you got change for a soul?"

Satan appeared and said "Yeah, yeah mosuckra! I got yo change right here just sign this contract and I'll give you your quarters!"

So I signed it, lost my soul, and got 4 quarters. I have never regretted this decision.

The H2 one was really...EMP-ish.

ODST had a more electric look. More shock-wavy.

H2s was a big white glowy orb.

ODSTs actually looks like it's doing something over than whiting the city.
Well, ODST has had five years on Halo 2 in terms of graphical details.

well if you played halo2 then you go to play odst you don't really need to see the scale of the blast sense you've already seen it and in odst you get a new point of view of the blast from the point of view of an odst in a drop pod witch i think looks amazing
