I like the idea but you can't count Halo Wars as canon. But Drones have been a Covenant force since the beginning, soooo. I would expect to see a few.

halo wars IS cannon story. also the brutes were the first covenant contact the humans ever had as they were the ones who attacked harvest

i think drones are the WORST enemy ever created. there's literally nothing worse than a butt load of those things flying down outta nowhere and annihalating (sp?) you with plasma pistols
The thing is drones have a LOT of potential. They are the only flying units in the Halo universe that can strafe in combat. I think making them more agile would make them a harder target making them more of a challenge.
While they would be more of a challenge, they were never once mentioned in the novels, before or after REACH fell. It's fairly safe to say that you'll be fighting only Elites, Grunts, Jackals, and Hunters.

Drones where mentioned in Contact Harvest loads of times, there was a drone hive onboard tartaruses ship because the elites stopped brutes from using engineers.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

I'd like to see drones use Plasma Rifles, Dual Plasma Pistols and possibly some other "medium weight" weaponry such as Carbines. The possibility of giving them grenades scares the hell out of me though; Grunts are bad enough with their 'nades.

I'd also like to see them used to support other Covenant units, one of the hardest battles on Legendary is the combination of Hunters and Drones at the base of the 3rd Tower in The Covenant. I'd like to see more situations like these, possibly with Drones backing up an Elite Zealot or a Brute Chieftain and his pack.

its illogical to put drones in Halo:Reach BECAUSE this is a prequal, and Drones were not present in the covenant collective for action along with the brutes untill after the events of Delta Halo. NOW the only way Drones WOULD Work on Halo:Reach is if because you as the player go into a stray engagement out of the norm from the novel. Novels never state that there were Drones on Reach. But they do state that Brutes and Drones were in the covenant since the fall of Harvest, but were not proven in the ranks to go into engagements because they were thought lower of.

The novels never stated drones Weren't on Reach ;-)
While it doesn't seem too likely they will be present it is still a possibility. And if they are, we need to make sure that they are fixed for this game instead of the same old character they have been in the last 2 Halo games.

Maybe they can create a new type of drone, one that relied on melee attacks and could take alot of punishment? or just make the drone use alot more different weaponry. Like the sniper idea?

Just because Drones weren't present in Halo 1 doesn't mean they weren't part of the Covenant. Let's put it this way. Drones didn't make an appearence in Halo 1 because Bungie didn't come up with the idea of Drones yet.

Only fighting these same old enemies seems redundant, I hope Bungie adds some more enemies, in spite of canon.

[/quote]Actually Bungie said they may use many things from Halo Wars as canon for future games.

Thank God they are

anyway, i like the queen idea, but why would a queen be on reach (hey at least theyre would be more than one boss)

dual wielding does seem likly, since they can board u when ur in a vehicle and beat the crap out of u, but, since brutes dont dual wield (is it because theyre stupid?), i dont think drones will

i cant say i hate drones, theyre tougher in legendary and can be annoying, but more fun than brutes (sadly...)

I think bungie should make the drones on reach as aggresive as they were in the books
and not just stay in flight but be able to run around firing needlers and plasma pistols at us

and a melee animation wouldnt be bad at all

same with every enemy unit in halo reach

They should make every covenant species be more agressive and stronger and have a melee animation that should be used as often as elites and brutes melee

With a queen, maybe when you kill it they all should go crazy and fight amongst them selves,
Maybe due to their mental link and only real allegiance to the covenant failing?
I noes!
They could carry grunts and drop them on your shoulders!

i dont mind drones tbh. yes, there easy to kill.. but they dual weild and theres quite a lot.. you can die very quickly from them if u dont treat them with any respect..(thinking that they're easy but running out and dying)

I really have no idea the difference between Halo 2 and Halo 3 Drones but the ones in Halo 2 were more fun to fight. So bring back the Halo 2 Drones and maybe add new variants. I would like to see a large flightless melee Drone. It would rush in while the swarm is attacking and ripe you up with claws. Maybe it could have slight camouflage. I hope we could get a look at the Queen Drone.

ROBOHOG IS VERY BRILLIANT AND STUFF.

I have nothing against Drones, I just reckon they're a bit... pointless. I mean, they never have any big part in the Halo series like the Brutes did, they were never one of the original enemies like the Grunts and Jackals, and they only pop up every now and again. Halo would have been better if they had been left out.

Five years older and wiser
The fires are burning, I'm fire, never tire
Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

They should redesign them, give them a louder buzz, less appearances, less armour and make them attack in more numbers.

Imaging being underground in a dark sewer with multiple entrances. you think its clear...
You start walking then you hear a buzz in the distance getting louder and u spin around looking in every direction. Then 20 drones come out from above and scare you.

Halo reach needs a Guilty 343 level, not with flood but scary in general. thats what halo 3 missed.

They need to be an ambush enemy. Popping out of random holes in buildings or the ground.

  • 06.24.2009 7:36 AM PDT

ah i see you are on my page...good choice

i want to see drones fight along side other infantry units. i also want to have elite drones as in bigger stronger and smarter drones that carry much heavier weapons. i want to have a situation where jump pack elites and drones work together to completely own people in cover i also would like to see drones with perhaps a weapon just for them like a plasma pistol designed for longer range combat perhaps with a scope like the halo 1 pistol only a covie version. i also would like drones to be seen a lot more in reach (assuming bungie make's the correct changes) i also like that sniper idea for whoever said that.

The Yanme'e are a eusocial species; meaning their society usually consists of a single reproductive queen, reproductive males and non-reproductive workers and/or soldiers. Because of this, they can be extremely dogmatic and hive minded[4]; something that may have made for an easy conversion into the Covenant hierarchy

According to Halo Wikia, this information comes directly from Harvest. Perhaps in Halo Reach the Queen drone[s] could be kind of like the Brute chieftans are?

$.50 in store credit.

Maybe not make drones tougher (though i do like the dual wield idea.) but make them work with the Covenant Ground Forces. Sure, a bunh of bugs with plasma pistols is no problem, but if they work with elites and brutes they could easily drop you shields and leave you open to attack. Also, maybe have them spread out more. When the are so clustered a plasma grenade can take out almost all of them. If they had more of a fighting formation than just charging, or they split up and flanked, they could be much more challenging.

“To say more would spoil be it’s overall its a game that needs to be played.” - Aristotle

I believe the manual to Halo 2 describes drones as only being necessary on Earth because of the cities all over the planet. I believe it described them as being necessary in particular for aerial recon because the cityscape would be harder to cover with ground teams, making the Drones a necessary addition to the attack force.

Now Reach was the second-largest human colony, but it didn't have huge cities like that. The cities it has might be large, sure, but it's not covered in cities and the cities aren't like sprawling metropolises. Drones might've been called in to search the cities themselves, but anywhere outside a city it's unlikely we would've seen them.

Personally, I think it's possible that Drones are present. But I don't think there'll be a lot of them.

@Geegs30

Agreed. Drones are the laughing stock of the Covenant army. They need to be made tougher to fight, with some more firepower, and smarter AI strategy.

Are you kidding me? Drones on Legendary are freaking HARD, man. What's this about one turret or a couple BR shots?

Turret shots can kill a drone instantly. Drones die even on legendary in several BR shots.
