Customization would be nice, I think the level that Rainbow Six: Vegas and Ranbow Six: Vegas 2 use are a good standard, I think maybe slightly more would be good.
Assault rifles and SMG's had selectable rates of fire and you were able to take on/off silencer at your leisure. Each gun was able to have one attachment such as:
ACOG scope
6x Scope
Laser Sight
Red Dot Sight
Recoil Control Stock (for Heavy Machine guns)
6x + 12x Scope (for sniper rifles)
Extended Magazine
Maybe in Reach you could choose between all of those (future versions of course) and also:
-Collapsible/Standard stock (trade between running speed and mobility and accuracy)
-Underslung Grenade Launcher (like a modern day M203 or M203A1)
-Some kind of "Snake Cam" from splinter cell or camera to see around corners
-Maybe some kind of Infrared Marker, so that if you hit an enemy with it, he is marked for the rest of your team (works with the whole Spartans are a squad idea)
-Underslung shotgun (like xls266 or whatever the F its called)
Also, all of this is assuming that Halo: Reach is actually like R6V, because I really hope it is, that game is one of my hall of fame all time favorites, excellent cover mechanics, IMO some of the best gameplay ever made (except Halo 3 lol)
