it talks about it a little bit in First Strike when Cortana scans Sgt. "Bad Ass" Johnson. it is Boren Syndrome, some sort of brain disease that the treatment and recovery would take 6 months to years to do, so Johnson decides to die when he dies and go fight more covies

What about the wide open gaps and exposed skin? Maybe they did get that radiation and that's why their skin glows/pulses? lol

WAIT!!! you said pulse's?? THATS IT!!! the hunters skin (on its back) pulse's if you shoot it after it is down, leading me to believe it has had a rather large dose of radiation coming most probably from its fuel rode gun, which means it had the human equivilant of boren (sp??) syndrome which scrambbles its the brain waves and neral pattern in its spine so much that the flood infection forms cannot take it over, because they cannot match its frequency, which is how they take over their victems

Yes, for now, let's assume that that is correct (it probably is).

Now, we're back to the initial question: What took over Captain Keyes?

This could take a while.

either that, or one other thing. I think hunters have been recieving years and years of mental conditioning so that they fear nothing and are always ready for battle. in reality if these are the hunters only thoughts then I believe they are highly focused on those ideas and those alone. so if a flood infected him it would no be able to overpower the hunters will and control them, either that or hunters have peanut sized brains and are to stupid to control :p

i just found the part in FS page 243-245. Boren's Syndrome is caused by exposure to high-yield plasma, like a PG or FRC blast. it is characterized by migraines, brain tumors, and amnesia. it disrupts the electrical signals in a person's nervous system. it requires 30 weeks of intensive chemotherapy.

lol

But, the Infection forms don't so much "overpower" as read, sort, and systematically delete the victims memories. When they are done, it would be merely a Hunter shell, pure Flood inside.

Yes, the Covenant wouldn't use a weapon whose byproduct is eventual death for all their best wariors. Maybe only humans get Boren's Syndrom.

just saying the flood WOULDENT be able to delete a hunters thought processes, although practically non-existant already (LOL) they are focused on battle and battle alone, they think of nothing else, I highly doubt the flood infection forms could overpower their thoughts, possible but I doubt it.

I dunno.

But the question that's got my nuts: What took over Captain Keyes?

For now lets just assume that the Flood can kill Hunters, but cannot use/transform them.

the question bry was askin was what took over captain keyes, origionally it was an infection form but judging by the way it tried to absorb all of keyes thoughts and memories rather then just wipe him clean it was a brain infection form, kinda like the over mind from star craft, as pix or deathscyth said I am not sure which one so it leads me to believe that it is a "node" of sorts that controls the immediate area, I do not believe however that it is the absolute leader of the flood, because it is too small I believe that it is a colony leader, sort of like a duke controling lands under a king, and I believe that the ultimate leader of the flood would be much larger and more well protected, and if the rumor of the flood taking over land is true then mabey you go looking for this "leader" or sorts, it would explain the flood land since this so called leader would be in an area that the flood had total control over

sounds interesting, maybe an epic battle with the flood will take place, I hope the battle rifle will be more effective on the flood than the pistol was, or the sniper rifle for that matter....

Maybe the hunters just weren't turned into flood because of time restraints on bungie's part... Maybe they can get infected... but we luckily didn't run into any of them on Halo. This would make Hunter Floods possible for Halo 2.

Or one of your radical ideas... either way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're wrong, only time will tell if you're wrong.

That's not quite true though. As far as the books go, Hunters have at least one more emotion; a strong sense of loyalty and affection toward its own kind, and especially its bond brother. They also have a certain sense of tactics (even if they seem a bit more brash than the other known Covenant races), so it's likely that they are decently intelligent.
