Subject: What is ODST going to add?

I really feel like Bungie is milking the franchise with this new game. Now don't think I utterly hate Halo, or any part of the Halo franchise, except maybe Halo Wars. I think Ensemble could have done better with that, especially with the way their previous products turned out. It just seemed like a good looking run of the mill RTS. Time to get back on topic. In fact I love this series, more than most people on this forum. I would even go so far as to say I'm a fanboy.

I just feel like ODST won't add anything, ODSTs have never been that big in any part of the Halo story, and at the end of the day that all that Halo 3: OSDT is supposed to be; a story filler. Which is fine, but I just feel like Halo has done enough with the series, and Microsoft has done enough with the series. I just don't want to see Halo fall done the path of the Star Wars prequels or the Guitar Hero series, both which have seemed to fall down the path of the cash cow and sold out.

Prequels are ever a bad thing, look at Metal Gear Solid 3. But in the case of the Star Wars movies, they were pretty horrible, just eye candy and special effects that haven't changed since the originals.
New games don't necessarily bring a new feel to Halo, look at Halo Wars. OSDT will be exactly the same, and adding one or two things doesn't really give Halo a new feel. Firefight would be cool if Gears hadn't already done it with Horde.

yeah but gears is shiz... lol they didnt even make a crouch button. but yeah ive quite enjoyed all of the metal gears... i think its cos ur a bad gamer hmmm??? and if you have a good thing why not keep it runnen. its like super smash bros on 64 twas the best game ever for its time but was constantly being modded to become better now we have melee and brawl. but back on subject fire fight is cool because u can actually fight, in gears all you could do was vrs the same 10 hords over and over and over and over again like sero that is boaring for 50 rounds.

I would have to make an educated guess against your argument. From watching the IGN video, and the E3 coverage, I think that you are going to be wrong. Yes, ODST retains the original Halo 3 multiplayer and only adds 3 maps (which, I know what you mean, doesn't really "add anything" that is just extra content) But ODST also has firefight which looks like it is going to be really fun for a really long time. If horde has anything to say about long lasting multiplayer, Firefight is going to be awesome. But more about the Halo series, and it's actual story.

I think that there is something fishy going on in these videos. They have been very sneaky about it, but also not sneaky about it. They have been stressing things like "look you get to play as an ODST" or "look the pistol has a scope." But have you looked around? What are all of those writings that glow in the VISR? What about Dare and the ONI building? ONI has never been a big part of any Halo game, and has only really gotten attention in the books. But if ODST features a character that is an ONI officer, in ODST we get to raid the ONI building, and we get to find out "what the superintendent looks like" then I think this game has more than enough cool new stuff to experience.

Another important phrase that I would like to point out in terms of adding things to the story. Joe Staten already said that we get to play as each of the characters in the squad "at least once" so that means it's likely that there is a few characters with more than one flashback. So that means: Buck, Dutch, Mickey, Romeo, and The Rookie, and probably one or two more missions. That is not too bad of a campaign, especially considering that you have some interesting connection times while wandering the streets as the Rookie.

If I were a betting man , I would say that having a good general knowledge of the Halo books would prove to be useful when playing this game. Also, I am probably going to play through the first few levels of Halo 2, just to get in the mood of earthy combat.

You are calling me a bad gamer? I don't see what realization that has to anything. If you are bringing something as petty as that up, then I think I am well within bonds to say that you have very poor spelling.

Gears was praised for the grittiness and new game play; I still think it sucks. As for firefight, you really said nothing to justify your point as to why it would be better or more intuitive, over Gears' Horde mode. You tried to justiy by pointing out the same thing Horde does, and them calling them negative thing.
"10 hords over and over and over and over again like sero that is boaring for 50 rounds."
What do you think firefight will be, there will be less weapons and less enemies as well.

I get what you're saying, but they seem to be putting to much on firefight instead of their own ideas. And as I stated earlier, I have no problem saying I am a Halo fanboy. Playing through the Halo Wars campaign, reading the Uprising comics, and reading the Halo novels. I think the ONI addition would be really cool, but at the same time the point of ONI is to be in secret. If they gave us a little taste of that part of the story that would be nice.
As far as the ODST part, I just think it will be boring, seeing how many we go through in Halo 2 and 3, with no second thought once they die. If ODST took place at about the time the ODSTs were being used instead over the conventional marines, that seems like it would be a more interesting story to tell.

ok to point out why the new fire fight looks better than hord is because halo you have a crouch button for when you want to sneak, also FF has randomly generated rounds silly. other than that i know ur pointing out the similarities they both have but the differences are what makes FF better. another few points as to why halo is better in FF is because not only are there random rounds but you have to deal with the challenge of skulls being turned on, with this in mind compaired to gears hord (and -blam!- zombie in call of duty) the game is new increasing the want for more features and difficuly.

and with my spelling yeah we all make mistakes just like how u have miss inturpreted the word relevance with realization lol. there for you comment b4 is now invalid.

i re-edited this to confim i wasnt calling anyone the german word

but besides that, add me because u seem very interested in the differances between games

@ the OP of the topic.

You don't have to buy it if you don't want to. That's your choice. Meanwhile, the rest of us are gonna go kick some Covenant butt come September 22nd.

This game brings some good changes, from an open world environment to the firefight mode, it's worth its price tag. I wouldn't consider Halo being "milked" just yet, as I usually consider a franchise to be milked when it's doing badly. But so far, every Halo game has been awesome, even Halo Wars, although not as awesome as the shooters, still good. So why stop? Why stop making a title that sells successfully every time it has a new release? Why stop making superb games that people will play for years to come?

Like it or not, Halo isn't even close to over yet. Like somebody said in this topic, it's got so much backstory to cover, and the fact that Bungie is showing fans what went on in Mombassa during the events leading up to Halo 3 is awesome, because that's what we wanted.

With the addition of skulls only add to the difficulty, more than just the Halo series use the crouch to sneak, and random rounds isn't impressive.

As for your point about my spelling, if you must know I meant relevance and I use Firefox's spell check. One more thing is that it's early, so I am letting that goes as a typo.

You still have yet to tell me why being a good or bad gamer has any relevance to my point.

Honestly, saying to not buy the game is a cop out. Halo CE was by far the best, but with the addition of Halo 2 and 3 I would have to say that are mediocre in terms of the story.

I don't ever remember any fans asking for Bungie to cover that, in fact I think that too is a cop out to make more money. The only thing we wanted was to have some closure as to where the Chief was, and they give us a whole new campaign that will only give us more questions.
As for the open world environment, it has been done to death since GTA Vice city. Way to think outside the box Bungie, add open world with FPS, no one has ever done that before. Just because there is a lot of titles in a series, doesn't mean it has to be doing bad to be milked. All it has to be doing is to use the title to get some money; perfect example is Star Wars.

OSDT would have been awesome to come as DLC or a new game after Halo 2, to change it up from not being the Master Chief, but now it seems a little to late to have it now.

Trust me, there was a lot of speculation about what went on after that slipspace event in Halo 2's New Mombassa. Yes, open world sandbox gameplay isn't new at all, but it's new to the HALO franchise, so it is fresh indeed.

Anyways, I hate dealing with self righteouss people, so I'm off.

God, what a useless pile of vague, half baked whining.

Like this, as one random example - if the 'open world' format has been done to death since GTA Vice City (which is a -blam!- stupid thing to say as it wasn't even the first of the modern 3D GTA games) how long has the linear format been "done to death"? Oh yes, that would be Wolfenstein, a very very long -blam!- time ago.

Personally,I think that Bungie was fulfilling a need in the Halo community for more story information with both Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. Both of these games represent a very significant part of the Halo universe's timeline, and have yet to be displayed with either a video or gameplay.
Also in terms of gameplay, ODST is a completely new direction for the franchise (with both open world campaign and FireFight) and is a very interesting direction indeed. As for Reach, we'll just have to wait and seen what that little gem brings us.
All in all, I think think that Bungie made some very nice add ons, while filling a niche in the Halo timeline. We out.

It adds a whole new experience. You are no longer a Spartan and it isn't a run and gun game anymore.

It is going to add a horde mode, and that is about it.

What were you expecting?, its a Halo game.

I never knew having an opinion meant I was self righteous. I just don't want the game to turn out like Terminator 3.

Look just because both of those types of games have been done to death, and in terms of gameplay aren't original, doesn't mean they can't be fun. Look at The Elder Scrolls or Mercenaries. Games that didn't seem that original, but now a lot of games want to take some of their ideas.

I just want Bungie to bring something new to the table and to the story that is fun and interesting. And I know that's exactly what you want as well.

You make a very good point, and thanks for being mature and respectable about it. I'm sure I am worried about nothing, but many games, once they go past number three, often get incredibly stale. I just don't want to see the Halo series turn out like this.

I am much more excited about Reach, playing as multiple Spartans; the Human race's saviors. That seems way more exciting than just playing the Master Chief.

Actually it's pretty much run and gun except more shooting from the distance and hiding is kinda added. Like playing Halo 3 on Mythic.
