So, Ive heard that Halo: CE and Halo 2 are alot better than Halo 3, from.... alot of people. I decided I'd go buy the game to see why. I had bought Halo 3 prior and loved the game, so I figured that if Halo: CE was better, than I'd love it to. Can someone explain to me what makes Halo: CE so much better though if Halo 3 is supposed to be the new, more well designed version? Was Halo: CE worth the Seven dollars I payed for it? Should I buy Halo 2? Thanks for your input.

Combat Evolved is simple. Two weapons, four frags, and four stickies.
No dual wielding, third person support weapons, playing as the Arbiter or one of his cronies.
The storyline was pretty deep, Cortana looked like a ten your old boy with ink spilled all over him, and Elites were your #1 problem.
Multiplayer is so streamlined and pure that the better man wins more often than not. If you mastered the pistol you reigned supreme over all.

It really depends on who you are. But I personally think it's better because given the year it was created is truely an amazing feat to me with how much it changed the gaming industry. I don't know about everyone else but I went from playing games like Goldeneye for the N64 to Halo for the Xbox. Comparing the two shows the giant leap Bungie gave the Xbox needed to get a 1up on the already existing Playstation competition.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 seemed to just build on the existing great formula Halo had, but weren't necessarily as innovative, but were still great games nontheless with things like the matchmaking, emblems, clans, and whatnot. Mainly online innovations with the other two. There are many other things that make Halo better but that's my main thing. Taking a peek at chickenlittle's Little Things We Took for Granted could give you a sense of what the others were missing. Aside from that I don't think Halo 2 is better then Halo 3. Halo 3 took what I loved from Halo: CE and Halo 2 and combined them while getting rid of what I hated in Halo 2 essentially. But if Halo: CE had Live like the originally planned, it would be hands down the best. Right now it's just very close that Halo: CE is better slightly over Halo 3.

This about sums it up.

I agree with the previous folks and would add that 2 is definitely worth picking up. Massive storyline expansion and a lot of the innovations (built-in helmet zoom, dual wielding, boarding) we now take for granted. It's essentially the same as 1 & 3, but with enough differences to make it unique. Vehicles handle better, Flood and Brutes are different...and you get to...know...the Arbiter. Awesomely long and varied campaign.

I have to disagree here.

Personally, I think of Halo 2 & Halo 3 as reinventions of Halo: CE, since everything but the story and appearances are completely different.

I think I'm still not over what was done to Ghost Recon. Complete revamp for no good reason that ruined the franchise.
CE is like the foundation/first level of a house. It gets built upon, improved, etc. But unless what was laid down is honored, the other levels cannot look or perform as well. Kudos to the developers for keeping what worked and adding without subtracting. Nothing felt tacked on or unintuitive about 2 & 3; you just picked up and started playing as if it were CE.
