Subject: Fall of Reach is not the Holy Bible

What I mean is people are assuming if something is not in the book "Fall of Reach" then it will not be in the game Halo: Reach.

For reference if you look at when the book was published it was published October 20, 2001, a full month before Halo CE came out. That's CE and not Halo 2

So with that said, the book will not mention Brutes because Halo 2 storyline was not in developed at that time so Nylund did not include them in the book. That also includes Choppers and vehicles that were not created just yet because they came later in the games.

So just because something was not mention in the book it does not mean that is how the game will be.

For example there is a thread asking what enemy you want to see in Reach and a bunch of people have said "Brutes were never on Reach b/c they are not mention in the book" well that is a poor assumption that they won't be in the game because they were not in the book. You actually think Bungie will take away things that they have offered us from Halo 2 and Halo 3 ( and ODST) and say...hmm let's not include them because its not in the book. No.

Even though the books are now canon it doesn't mean Bungie will follow it to the T. If they do then it will be a very short campaign. No, Bungie will add their own storylines/missions/objectives along with probably the main missions in the book like guarding the generators to prevent the the Surface MAC guns from being destroyed.

A book narration is not suppose to give you all the details of everything that is going on in the story, it's 3rd person they follow a character around and tell the readers what is going on with them and not what's going on around the entire place. So there could be more that happen to Reach then what the narration told us but we don't know b/c the information we know is the same information that the characters know.

So enough with the comments "It's not in the book so it won't be in the game". The safe assumption is everything you have read in the books, or seen in games (including Halo Wars) could show up in Halo: Reach and it may not show up if it doesn't fit Bungie's needs for the game. Whatever was not mention in the book could also show up since we don't know exactly what happen on that planet only bits and pieces that we know happen to certain characers.

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

Yes it is. I talks about Jesus...You know...Master Chief?

Good post OP. Too bad this will be ignored by the mindless drones of the Halo: Reach Forum.

You do have a valid point. People might be assuming too much altogether...Reach was mentioned in the Manual for the game, maybe the game isn't based on the book at all but rather a new perspective that Bungie wants to give us. Now that might be a little far-fetched but remember, it's Bungie's series, not Nylund's. It all depends on if they're TELLING THEIR story of Reach or making the BOOK INTO a GAME. It's up to Bungie what they want to include or not...the book is probably a base but they will expand on it.

God yes. That's what I've been telling everyone since the dawn of mankind. The game is most likely not based off the entire book but based off the Battle of Reach, that took place in the book. And they'll expand on it because protecting the generators wasn't the only thing that happened on Reach.

You're right, it's FoR isn't the absolute authority in what could happen in the game. But seeing how almost all we know of the Battle of Reach and the events before and after is from the book, it's safe to say that we can use it as a general outline of what to expect. Yes, Bungie will probably throw in a few surprises, but they probably won't stray too far from the events in the book.

Spartan119 the Red Raven.
"So officer tell me how it feels to be at the wrong end of that barrel?"

true and good point i never read the book and i franky agree with you.
HOWEVER i would like some truth to the halo time line as already in place.
and we can suppose n brutes were seen in halo CE becasue they werent as trusted as the elites and this was a HOLY mission for the covenant so mabye no brutes were there.
i know brutes will be on reach cause of halo wars had brutes (though not on reach but ya whatever)

the only thing that SHOULDNT be there is the BR though i doubt it wont
its not that i hate the gun nor am i bad with it, it just ruined he way halo was played, looking back to halo CE and halo 2 the BR wasnt there and wasnt EVERY were in halo 2 like it is today in halo 3.
I hope bungie leaves the mass amount of BR's to halo 3 cause if they dont i will be severly pissed at there cloning of halo 3 MP.
bungie please turn back to youre better days.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Agreed. The Spartans are new Spartans (possibly from Beta Team, the ones left at the generators) so they will have new stories, and experience new things. The main-character Spartans either didnt fight on Reach (Chief, James, Linda) or they only fought on Reach for the first morning, and then got trapped inside CASTLE base, devoid of all enemies. Then there's the 3 gamma team members who were performing guerilla missions, but there was only 4 of them, and they were described as having identical armor. There were 3 MIA Spartans crippled, but since they didnt get to CASTLE base, they didnt get fixed up by Halsey like Will, Vinh and Isaac. There were 11 healthy Spartans left to defend the generators, all unnamed and undescribed, so I bet Sierra-259 and -320 are from that team.

Then what about anyone who takes the time to comment on it....oh wait.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Though I certainly agree that the game will more than likely not, and should not, follow The Fall of Reach to the letter, many of the arguements where i've seen people site the book as reference are justified. Some of the theories suggest things that confict with what has happened, and to tha affect mentioning what has happened is an accurate way to shape an arguement.

As far as what has not been writen about, knock yourself out. As far as i'm concerned it's fresh territory that I hope Bungie takes strong advantage of. Even the The Fall of Reach is not "the bible" as you say, it certainly shouldn't be discarded by some of the half baked theories that get spit out. There is foolishness on both ends of the spectrum.

I'd just like to point out that most of what is written about the events on Reach is actually in the book "First Strike"

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I hope they don't follow the book. I really didn't like it.

Check out my youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/ultratog1028

choppers were created in Contact Harvest. and brutes are mentioned there. so yes there could be brutes in REACH.

just like prior to the Battle of Reach, the book says that only Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, and Engineers had been encountered. it also says the Battle of Reach was humanity's first contact with elites.

yet brutes are in Halo Wars and Contact Harvest, Drones are in Contact Harvest, and Elites are in Halo Wars, Contact Harvest, and Cole Protocol. all of those take place before Reach.

so obviously there have been some time problems. i think the game will actually tell a truer version now that the other games have been released.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

This isn't offensive at all. Please leave religion out of your posts. It is against the rules. So for you, you get a report.

And anyways, there are plenty of people who would love to see the game follow the book, but there are a lot of people who would love it to be completely different from the book. (that includes me)

But as for your thread, it is offensive.

I doubt it'll contradict the book, but will probably not follow it exactly. That's my opinion.
