Is that how long between the initial drop and when the Rookie wakes up?

If so, man. Other than the main story (with Dare and all) there better be flashbacks of crazy stuff happening, you know, when they have to reorganize themselves and such.

What do you think? You want Bungie to have let the story run around for the first few ingame hours or the whole game to center on the main story, concluding the whole thing on the Rookie's end?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Whatever.

Gears of War wasn't much longer than 6 hours, and that was a good story arc.

Actual product length or in-game storyline?

Didn't Gears last 2 days with Marcus and Dom running around?

Its how we fall

it may be short but remember: Its Free Roam!
you can explore the city of New Mombassa almost from the beginning! so there is at least 10hours of game play in that. after all if there is Easter Eggs in ODST wouldn't you like to find them?

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

Yeah, the first reply-er missed your point. I understand what you're talking about, but I don't understand your question at all.

And yes, Gears' story definitely took place over more than 6 hours.

EDIT: Just for everyone who's not getting it, he's talking about the 6 hours it takes for the rookie to wake up.

Perhaps I wan't all too clear.

Free roam will be hours of fun, yes.. But the actual plot involves 6 hours between when the ODST's drop and when the Rookie runs around in New Mombassa.

I'm just wondering if you guys want to jump straight into Dare's [CLASSIFIED] chore.

Yeah, the first reply-er missed your point. I understand what you're talking about, but I don't understand your question at all.

And yes, Gears' story definitely took place over more than 6 hours.
Say you find your first "clue" (assuming that one with Dutch isn't the very first one you have to find). You go back to what happens right after the drop. Either:
-you and your squad are trapped aimlessly in Covenant country, everyone is confused and fighting, and you are looking for where DARE dropped or waiting for word from your UNSC superiors. You wait until the EMP effects loosen up on all the ground forces.

or

-you and your buddies make it straight to the ONI building, no cool fighting, no transport, YOU ARE ALREADY THERE.

Or course I don't how non-linear this game is. Perhaps Bungie will drop all the flashbacks in different places, and we will have to pieces together the story by ourselves if we don't listen to the SI and find the "right" one first. I also don't know if the whole game will be told in flashback form or after 2/3 of the game the UNSC intends to come back to New Mombassa (or you find your fellow ODST's) and the game will end in "the present" (or 6 hours after the drop).

I'm just sure most, if not all, the ODST's are off course and confused, regardless of where DARE puts them at the last second.

And I'm, not entirely sure of the damage radius of the slipspace rupture: in Halo 2 we saw it taking in buildings but blowing back trucks and cars. I just know it takes out various forms of communication.

I see this as perfect for Bungie to flesh out the story as it's happening, yet taking breaks with the whole open world thing going on.

But it strikes me as odd, this story, just because I'm used to the pacing of the previous games, where it sort of jumps around in a matter of days in the Master Chief's campaign.

But I could be mistaken.

Joe Staten said that the flashbacks will eventually lead up to the present.

There is more than one difficulty for Halo 3: ODST and there will be co-op. There's plenty of hours of gameplay.
