Subject: Flood Symbolism?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Something that just popped into my mind... perhaps the Flood symbolizes the human brain (not in looks)? Both are always hungry for pretty much anything, wether it be food, lusty ambition, knowledge, power, money, etc... Maybe Bungie was trying to get a point across?

Any thoughts on this?

And keep your flame-comments to yourself, please... I don't need those. This is a thread of speculation. If you don't like it, don't respond. Not responding to threads you don't like saves you time....

Yes, I do think too much, but I don't think a lot about this stuff. As I said in the post, it just popped into my mind... I don't spend hours contemplating Halo theories. They just come to me. Poof! There they are!

Jay thinks that there is no such thing as thinking too much. We can't think ourselves to death in the lifetime of the brain's ancillary equipment, anyway. Even if our brains' life-support mechanisms could last forever, and our brains themselves didn't wear out, we would probably start forgetting old stuff to make room for new stuff anyway.

Perhaps we/humans/forerunners, created the flood, us being these self proclaimed omnipoetent beings. Weve created things wich would destroy our world before (nuclear weapons). We never cease to look for more ways to destory or enhance ourselfs. Perhaps we we trying to create genes in ourself witch wo enable us to go longer without food, sleep, ar rest. The ability to regenerate rapidly, as well as making us less susecptible to damage. Or just developing biological weapons. We simply let it get out of hand. Out of arrogance we thought we were impervopus to destuction, able to create artificial worlds. But we wern't stupid, we created a way to contain them. As 343 guilty said "Halo was created to study and contain the flood, i am gratefull that... balh balh blah.". Look i gotta go. But ill be back here check this out

I actually thought of the flood as more of a Biblicial reference (you know John 1:17 and the Flood being from Noah's Ark). But this sounds like a fairly good extension.

I'm familiar with that theory as well... But I'm a man of choices... I like to make alternatives.

Greencheif's right, you DO think too hard.

What do I think the flood represent? Shotgun fodder.

I thinks the flood symbolise what we would be like if our adaption was strength rather than inventive intelligence (humans as a whole, I know intelectually challenged people thrive).
Their instincts are to find food and remove threats by force. Ours would be to make life easier, buy food and maintain a home and negotiate. If our bodies and minds kept their hunting instincts rather than building settlements we would be like how the flood act.
I hope I make sense.

There is a balence, there is thinking too hard, there is having things pop into your mind and there is not caring at all. You dont care, that is not an insult but thats what you come under. People who contribute help the thread, people who don't contribute have me commenting about them. This forum wasn't made because some guy said, "Hey, the flood's part of the plot in this game could represent me killing them with my shotgun".

All of your speculating is good fun and all, but I don't think Bungie's intentions run as deep as some of you think. The flood are the flood and the forerunners are the forerunners, it's its own storyline, not full of biblical and physiological references. They are just a game company after all, albeit the game company which will dominate the world.

fore·run·ner [ fáwr rùnnÉ™r ] (plural fore·run·ners)

Forerunner noun

1. predecessor: an earlier person or thing that had a role or function similar to somebody or something coming later
the forerunner of the modern food processor

2. somebody or something showing future: somebody or something that brings news of or is an indication of what is to happen
a forerunner of unsettled weather

3. one ahead of others: somebody or something that goes ahead of others, for example, a skier who skis down a course just before the beginning of a race

-Food for thought. Read number one carefully.

Jay is a kinda new fan of Bungie, but already knows that they just LOVE throwing us subtle references to ponder and chew on. That's a part of what makes Bungie great. Jay was thinking about the flood's name. The way they all seem (from the first two Halo books) to kinda dissolve the minds of infected critters evokes an image of a more fluid entity assimilating biomass and pooling resources instead of being born with one body and brain, staying in them exclusively, and dying with them. In sharp contrast, the covenant strive for individuality and separation of different specimens to the point of having strict social castes, revering names, and doing what they can to keep the otherwise gregarious Grunts from developing strong bonds with others.
This is a thread of speculation. If you don't like it, don't respond. Not responding to threads you don't like saves you time....At any rate, Jay doesn't think it even matters whether Bungie intended any of the references we can find. The whole purpose of this thread is sharing thoughts just for the mental stimulation. If you don't wanna contribute, prefering instead to keep it simple like Greenie and 404 seem to be doing, just ignore this thread!
