Subject: Everything realistic but melee strength

Why is it that Bungie decided to give the Rookie superhuman punches that are able to hurt brutes?

This IS campaign, and in previous campaigns marines could NOT hurt a brute. (Think cutscene before the end of Sierra 117 where Sgt. Johnson is trapped and tries to punch the brutes guarding him.)

Only a Spartan would be able to realistically hurt the covenant with their bare hands.

Is this purely for gameplay reasons?

how i reacted to the Halo 3 Beta needler!

Posted by:mauricio14
its ok i used it 25% of the time but when someone used it on me thats when i started calling him a n00b and a modder and how i was going to give him negative feedback you sissy needler user.

I saw the video. He shot the brute a few times before he smacked him.

why are you looking at this?

brute chieftans are stronger than normal brutes, and Sgt. johnson is a marine, not an ODST.....

Halo 3: ReV Eskimo

eventually ill be back on Reach and CEA. i enjoy gaming for fun, im a great player and i enjoy smoking while i play. so any chill players feel free to add me. I in NO way support halocharts; old username.

i think its to balance gameplay. the point of most shooter games is to not get close. when you do break that rule you have to give the players the benefit of the doubt.

the chief was hardly able to hurt a brute in the book series when he first encountered one.

True, but he DID get a few armor upgrades since then.

And I know Sgt. Johnson isn't an ODST but the ODSTs are much close to marines than to Spartans.

I am a Halo 3 Failure.

I believe that there melee isn't that strong, Master Chiefs punches take down shields in two hits, I'm gonna guess that the Rookies melee's take down shields in at least four or five.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Took a frag grenade to the gut.

A ODST's punch should be the equivalent of a toddler trying to punch a marine. It shouldn't have any real effect.

The tip of the sword... That's the place I am at.. In the front of the fighting force.

The MC's melee takes the shields down in one hit. I don't think the melee of the ODST is that strong. He did shoot him a couple of times before he hit him. Plus he didn't kill him with the melee and the guy playing was getting worried when the Brute got close.

Bungie always tries not to stray from realism for gameplay reasons, but some things just have to be. And correct me if i'm wrong, but ODSTs are much more stronger and seasoned than most marines.

The Marines do do some damage to Brutes when they melee one.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

Not sure if it's true, but hopefully Bungie knows what there doing. I'm sure if we could find it this out, they could too. There usually always 1 step ahead of us.

No wait im just a noob who cant think clearly

i agree with the last part now odst are also specialy trained but have less power so around 5 melees to kill a brute.Come on bungie know what they are doing and by the way johnson hitted a fully armored brute chieftain

Two makes there more than speakers.

It's a game. Complaining that something doesn't seem real in it is obvious. Do we see giant apes walking aroud the city with armor on?

Everything is realistic? There are countless things is the game that aren't realistic. But it's a video game, not real life. Get over it and enjoy the fact Bungie is giving us new Halo games even when we thought they were done.

  • 06.11.2009 4:27 AM PDT

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

Tonootuu is right. Johnson was a Spartan 1. He took injections from project ORION. It made him a little stronger than the average marine.

hes right but bungie never said anything about not making halo RELATED GAMES anymore they said that the trilogy ended not the universe(halo universe not ours for all you noobs out there)

Check my fileshare.

Think of everything you went through in Halo 1, 2 and 3. Blowing up Forerunner structures, Surviving the Flood, Defeating the Covenant and flying through space to plant a bomb in a Covenant ship...

oh wait, nevermind, that's realistic.
