It looked like daytime in the trailer when it circled the drop pod, so maybe we see it as another ODST in a flashback. And remember, there were a lot of helljumpers going off the ship as regret slipspaced so we don't know if it's even a named character, it could be just some intel that needs to be secured.

in this video Buck tells Dare that her's is second to the left next to his, is it possible that you flashed back to Buck or Dare and they open the others pod?

This would also likely put Dare in command, further developing her objective.

Dare doesn't need to be put in command. She's an ONI officer. She already outranks all of the enlisted ODSTs--which includes Buck.

Obviously they all survive the drop, otherwise there'd be a shortage of flashback missions to complete, and it would have been a waste for Bungie to introduce them here on the website and in the opening cinematic.

That makes a lot of sense. We definitely know that Dutch and Mickey work together in the game, so we know that they aren't always alone, perhaps this is an ODST rescuing another from being stuck in the pod. Makes the most sense to me.

What if it is the pod of the ODST who hit The Rookie as Regret jumped into slipspace? That guy's pod would be pretty bashed up, and might not open from the inside.

And @ ehpik lulz it is probably because the person playing the game is using Bumper Jumper, or another Button Layout similar to that, in which case RB is swapped with B.

Did you notice when Joe Staten was presenting at E3, the part where Dutch is going to blow up the bridge, that the guy who said "Okay super... about damn time, do it trooper..." sounded like Buck? So maybe Mickey, Dutch, and Buck, maybe Dare regrouped at the ONI building.

I know this has nothing to do with this discussion, but It'll say "Hold RB to open drop pod" Because for some reason, in every video, RB is replaced with the B button.

Anyone know why?
You might have to melee it open. Or the player could be using Bumper Jumper.

I apologize if this has been said. Felling too lazy this morning to look at other posts.

Firstly, I don't think he's dead because in the gameplay trailer he says "Rookie? You out there? Answer me, thats an order."

There could be a dead ODST in the pod, and it could be anyone. More likely though is it is a supply drop. They use ODST drop pods for that I'm pretty sure.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Who says it has to be a member of our squad? So many drop pods were released at the start it could be anyone.

Actually, I know for a fact it is not a member of your squad. In one interview with Bungie, it is said you will "get to play as each squad member at least once". The fact you have to pry open a drop pod implies this person did not even get out of their drop pod.

Possibly there was a mongoose inside? It could be the one we saw in the game play trailer. Read the capacity section at the link. Highly unlikely though.

HEV Halopedia Page

Thanks for that. Possibly the Mongoose. But...

Maybe...

A Shiva Nuclear missile?

Think about it. The UNSC can't spare anymore men. They drop this down and in the final mission, you're sent to activate the Nuke and blow the city up?

Think about it...

Probably won't happen but still.

Maybe they're not dead, but stuck inside it?

Thats possible, but it's been 6 hours since the drop, and im pretty sure he would have run out of oxygen.

The Rookie was stuck inside of his pod for six hours.

If you view the Gameplay Trailer, you can see at about 1:27 in the video, that the screen reads "hold b to pry open drop pod". Clearly that shows that an ODST died from the impact, and we know that Dutch, Micky, And you as The Rookie have survived. That leaves Buck, Dare and Romeo.

It's likely that Dare has not died because we do not know much about her, and for her entire story and objective to be removed would be entirely unlikely. In a GameInformer article, it is stated that you find Romeo's sniper rifle hanging from a telephone wire, indicating he likely survived the drop. That leaves buck. If you watch the opening cinematic, Buck is clearly a stern leader, and scolds the ODSTs. Most people(or at least myself) would become slightly unattached to Buck, making it easy for the player to accept his death. Bungie has always put the reality of death in their games. This would also likely put Dare in command, further developing her objective.

Any comments, questions or threats?

I say that Dare killed Buck and she made it look like he died in the pod

Just because there is a small hole in the drop pod doesn't mean that a person can see inside and know whether the person inside is alive or dead.

Look

I doubt anyone died, that wouldn´t be very nice.

Yeah, maybe there already is a hole for air in it for emergency reasons, because it's made for hot-drops, and only ODST's and sometimes spartans use it, so you wouldn't need to breath in space when you have the helmets on, and your suits air wouldn't run out that quick. ALSO, The pod might be another ODSTs. They weren't the only ODSTs to drop.

The other ODSTs landed in a different section of the city, and you as the rookie have a fairly small section to work with.
the other ODST squads were intended to land on regrets carrier, but the slipspace even probably killed them all, but some may have survived because the rookies squad did. as far as we know, they are alone in the city so i think that the pod is buck's, and you find a clue that leads to his pod, allowing a flashback.

-blam!- GTFO OF MY SIGNATURE

I didn't read through the whole 4 pages, so excuse me if this has been mentioned.

Maybe it belongs to one of the other ODSTs, and not one of the squad, you know, like one of the many others that were dropped into combat?

Well, some HEVs had weapons and supplies in them. You might also discover another squad.
