I am...whimsical today.

Even having searched for it I find it hard to beileve that this is the first transcript of the trailer that's been posted. Please point me in the direction of the first one/the more discussed one if so.
I've not given people names, (for we don't know them) I've just assigned them a tag so we know who (who we think) says what.
Feel free to dispute my version.

A: Gamma station this is Fermion RSO. Unconfirmed report of an in-system slipspace rupture.
Gamma station - A docking ring orbiting Reach (thankyou x Lord Revan x)
RSO - Remote sensor outpost. (thankyou Zechs00GT and rarkruby)

B: Impossible. Check your source.

[A?]: Reading multiple pings below the orbital defence grid.

This could be the same guy as before, but it sounds a little different to me.
Is he talking about ships? As I remember it, the large starships came out of slip-space outside the orbital defence grid. It seems likely that he is talking about troop transports and landing craft.
It also seems that the orbital defence grid is still in existence at this point.

B: Oh this can't be happening.

C: There's no mistake, it's them!

Likely the Covenant. While it's never actually stated outright, I see this as more for effect than because it'd would be a lie.

D: Winter contingency has been declared, all units are mobilized and ready.
A contingency has been prepared for this situation. I guess Reach (again you never actually get a sign saying 'REACH IS THIS PLANET YOU ARE SEEING FALL', but the evidence I've seen points to it being so) does have quite the military presence and strategic value to require such a plan.
'Winter' to me speaks of both desolation, and also hibernation. A deep defence plan perhaps?
Also note the 'all'. Reach is the centre of most of humanity's war effort, including R&D. I'd quite like to see ALL it's available resources put into a fight.

E: This is Sierra-320 [three-two-zero], prepped for combat insertion.
'Spartan 320? But they only go up to 150 or so!' I hear you cry. There's a discussion of this exact nature going on here. Personaly I think that this refers to a second group of SPARTAN IIs that have been being trained on Reach (where else?). They've not been directly mentioned, but as far as I'm aware, they've not been directly discounted.
As for combat drop, it sounds like someone's going in ODST style, or perhaps even in a more unorthadox manner?
'Sierra' could also just be a callsign, like 'Echo 419'. We attribute it to SPARTANS - S-117, and now S-259 - but it does also stand for the letter 'S' in the phonetic alphabet.
What 'S' means may be another question :)

F: What the hell was that?
Looked like a nuke to me. Ours or theirs?

G: We're coming in hot! Hold on!

H: We just lost our bird!

I: Oh my God!

J: What the hell is happening down there?

K: There'[s/re] still people down here!

Waiting to be evaced? Are they pulling the ships out? Are they cutting their losses and nuking their bases?

L: [City?] just dropped off my map.
Nuked? Something else perhaps? A nuke would leave remains, surely?

M: [...?] evac.

N: [our position is being?] overrun, we'll hold out as long as we can.

Protecting something vital no-doubt. HQ? Weapons research? Strategic emplacement?

O: I need you in that fight Nova-1. Nova-1, come in. Nova-1, do you read me?
As in the Nova bomb perhaps? The taskforce protecting one? The ship carrying one? Admiral Whitcomb and the remains of Red Team?

P: This is Sierra-259 [two-five-nine], you've got SPARTANs on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere.

Again.
More than one SPARTAN. Protecting what? Normal procedure is to pull out when the planet is glassed, I seem to remember.

Points of interest

The trailer can be seen more as a timeline of events, rather than an actual recreation of the fall of Reach. The drastic change of the planet fits in with this (thankyou ApocalypeX)

It is never directly stated that the attacking force is the Covenant, or indeed when the events occur. (thankyou x Lord Revan x)

i think the sierras in question are ODSTs or marines, fireteam sierra makes the most sense to me
S = Sierra = Spartan.

i tell you something, in that compressed audio of the youtube trailer, it does sound like that. but we know its 320 from the ign/gametrailers and official bungie feeds and vids. check it out right here on b.net

oh and OP, thanks so much for doing the transcript, I agree with everything you wrote as I did a partial transcript in an email this morning. I also though, have no idea what "A" says after gamma station

Spartans don't die, they're just missing in action.

I've definitely gotta get some 5.1 surround and an HDTV for this game. I feel it's going to be an epic win for the halo series. I'd rather experience the gritty, realistic feel of being thrown into the game, chewed up, and thrown out into Reach, so that I can experience the game with a whole new perspective.

Thus I refute thee

You mention that the number of Spartans only go up to 150, when was again that the Spartan III project (i think that's right) was launched with something like 300 spartans?

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

The spartan threes had letters in their service tags.

Old School

Its not Fermiat, its Fermi or Fermi-Hart (samething)
its to do with the Fermi paradox, which basically in halo reach context means that theyve got contact with the covenant.

A: Gamma station this is [fermiat?] RSO. Unconfirmed report of an in-system slipspace rupture.
Gamma station would suggest that there is also an Alpha station and a Beta station. MAC stations perhaps? 'Fermiat' or whatever it is may be an acronym. 'RSO' is R*** Signals Officer? Remote? Reconnaissance?[i]

"Remote Sensing Station Fermion" Its from the book Fall or Reach. They first detect the Covenant entering the system and report it to Reach before enacting the Cole Protocol.

How they got from RSS to RSO don't ask me. Maybe you are right and it is Remote Sensing Officer, but Fermion is the name of the sensor station in the Reach system.

Edit: RSO is "Remote Scanning Outpost"

Which comes from the definition of Fermi/Fermi-Hart.

mmMmm collaborativeness.

Not that it matter that much, but I really hear: "This is Sierra-259, we've got spartans on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere."

Perhaps not, but details are always important :)

Heh, now I'm listening more closely I hear 'You got SPARTANs' instead of 'You've got SPARTANs'
Again, we need a second ear :)

First, good post.

Second, we really do not know when this game is taking place. It could be after the events of Halo as we know it and after Reach has been rebuilt. We could be facing a completely different enemy. We could have new weapons, vehicles and technology.

Because there is a reference to Sierra -259, this (as people have speculated) could be a second or third generation of Spartans.

A: Gamma station this is Fermion RSO. Unconfirmed report of an in-system slipspace rupture.

Gamma station, if i recall correctly, is a 3km long orbital ring and docking station for UNSC ships in the novel. It isn't a mac station. Fermion was in fact the first to note the presence of the Covenant. Gamma station served as the docking location for the Circumference which is where the Chief was issued during the battle to destroy the NAV computer and half the Covenant from gaining the location of Earth.

Seems plausible. It could be that this line of dialogue is meant to occur later in the story and does stand for when several ships bypass the defense grid and start slamming the planet with plasma.

E: This is Sierra-320 [three-two-zero], prepped for combat insertion.
'Spartan 320? But they only go up to 150 or so!' I hear you cry. There's a discussion of this exact nature going on here. It could be a Pelican's call sign. Similar in fashion to Echo 419 in Halo:CE. It also could be Spartans. Class II was never confirmed as cannon but this may do so. It may also be that perhaps the Spartan's are designated between 1-150 and have different call signs.

K: There'[s/re] still people down here![/b]
Waiting to be evaced? Are they pulling the ships out? Are they cutting their losses and nuking their bases? Tactical Nukes were deployed at the Mac batteries as they were being overrun by Covenant and they did decide to cut their losses on the surface.

N: [our position is being?] overrun, we'll hold out as long as we can.[/b]
Protecting something vital no-doubt. HQ? Weapons research? Strategic emplacement?
Could be that its referring to CASTLE. That would be ONI's headquarters on the surface where Dr. Halsey remained behind and was met by several of the Spartans as they made it down into the Forerunner section deep underground.

O: I need you in that fight Nova-1. Nova-1, come in. Nova-1, do you read me?
As in the Nova bomb perhaps? The taskforce protecting one? The ship carrying one? Admiral Whitcomb and the remains of Red Team?
I dont know why but I keep hearing Noble 1. I just am not sure. Either way, it could be a bomb...a task force or a ship. I agree with what youve suggested.

P: This is Sierra-259 [two-five-nine], you've got SPARTANs on the ground sir. We're not going anywhere.

Again.
More than one SPARTAN. Protecting what? Normal procedure is to pull out when the planet is glassed, I seem to remember.

Well, the Spartans were assigned to protect the Mac stations on the planet. Therefore, perhaps that line of dialogue and other lines aren't technically in order but a display of how we know the beginning an the end. That we know what happens to reach no matter what we try and do. Then again, who knows. Maybe Spartans are dropped off at the end and we'll learn some new part of the story. I'm sure we will learn something new about the Battle of Reach anyway haha.

Great post though. Its nice to see all the dialogue from the game. It'll hopefully spur some good discussion.

Personally i believe the trialer is more of a timeline sort of, like its not all happening in one go its just snippets added together if you understand?
