Subject: Drop-in Drop-out Campaign?

One of my gripes with Halo 3 co-op campaign over XBL is that if one player drops out, the game ends for all players involved.

Is it possible for Bungie to implement a drop-in drop-out type mechanic to ODST and future campaigns (similar to L4D) or will it be the same as Halo 3?

Pics or it didn't happen. lol. ... no seriously. Pics. j/k

Back on topic... this is a very important addition to the game, especially in a sandbox scenario. I think the OP might be on to something.

I appreciate it may not even be possible to implement, given that (i believe) we are runing ODST on the same engine but i am certain the community would lap it up if it could happen.

I would definitley play more campaign if i knew that my freinds could drop in anytime they liked.

Well I guess I better put some pants on.

I feel like I'm gonna break this thing!

Yes please.

Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

Knowing the little I know about Halo's netcode (Halo < Halo 2 < Halo 3), it wouldn't be too hard, but Bungie would probably have to code it and test it (they'd have to edit the engine and its netcode; something I think they are less than willing to do).

Even something relatively small like that, if it isn't already ingame at this point, it probably won't get in.

Agreed. Especially because of the sandbox nature. It would suck if a party would have to start over their search for secrets only because someones internet connection disappeared.

Something to do with lag. Bungie wasn't sure if they could do 4 player co-op over live originally, because "players could be literally miles apart". But mind you those damn checkpoint warps still own our souls...

-edit-

Wait you said matchmaking.... you want to do that for matchmaking? I see numerous problems happening with that... if you thought boosting was bad now...

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

I would like to see that put in.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Drop-in drop-out would be great. But as long as they make it so one person disconnecting doesn't end it for everyone then I will be happy. That's my main gripe about Halo 3 campaign. When someone get disconnected or has to go it ruins the experience.

it would be much prefered. it would make it alot more fun.

for example, my bro's on upstairs on ODST (when it coems out) and iw ant to play with him but he doesnt wnat to start that mission all over again, with the drop-in feature i can get straight to it, play for 5 minutes, then go back to whatever i was doing.

very good idea indeed

i think it'd be a bad idea. how would they implement it into ODST?

i could see firefight if you have AI squadmates, but not in campaign.
