Revvin' up your engine,
Listen to her howlin' roar,
Metal under tension,
Beggin' you to touch and go!

Based on what I have seen on some films from Halo:ODST presentation. I see that brutes have energy shields(like elites), they never had that in previous games. How come they have it now? Is their armor upgraded? Imo only elites should have energy shields on covenant side. Also because in halo 2 brutes didn't have these energy shields.( For the rest what I have seen it looks very cool, looking forward to play the game.)
What is your opinion?

In Halo 3 the Brutes had Energy Shields because they took over the Elites position. Go back and play the game and you will see.

I hate you so much...

But not as much as I hate the internet.

Supposedly the regular Brutes in H3 simply had "power armor".... what the difference is, i couldn't tell you.

Plekpedia - The most epic site in the history of ever.

It is still Brute Power Armor.

It just looked different because he had the VISR on, so it flickered more.

Beat me to the punch! Anyways, I think they have energy shields AND power armor because Bungie wants people to feel like they're the Elite's replacements. Also, the "shields" Chieftans use is a piece of equipment called "Invincibility". In Halo 3, not Brute has energy shields.

The armor acts exactly like a shield, but does not recharge.

They probably put in the shields as well so people can see how long it takes for the power armor to recharge and is as well how the power armor stays together.

Brutes had these shield in Halo 3. If you shoot at one you see it break and destory his armor. They are using the same Halo 3 engine so you will see similar graphics.

As in they have energy shields like the Elites in the first two Halo games, not just the power armor.

The only difference I see is that the armor flashes when being hit, never had that in Halo 3.

I think it's the same kind of armor, maybe it's just so you can see it more clear in the night?

Yes that is what I mean the flashing of the shields because it functions a little bit diffrent than elites armor.
Maybe indeed because of the night/with vision it is possible to see the shields more. But it seems to me this way that brutes armor = elites armor, witch it is not.

they had energy shields in Halo 3, but for some reason, the animation or effect (whatever you want to call it) wasn't in the game to show shields flairing, basically, their armor is their shield.

Before the energy properties of the amor were not very pronounced, with minute flashes visable in the theater being the only thing that could clue you into the fact that you weren't just shooting a piece of steel welded onto a monkey.

Now Bungie is making it much more obvious that you are dealing with some sort of alien technology in shooting the brutes armor by adding the effects of an energy shield. It helps characterize the character, and in general further establishes the setting and mood of the game.
