Wouldn't it be great if you could pick the Spartan of your choice? Of course this would mean that Bungie would have to create a massive game, seeing as you would be able to choose between five characters. But this idea would give the gamer a "gaming experience". There are no restrictions to whose stroy you play, letting the player feel free when playing.

Note: Bungie is heading towards this path with Halo 3: ODST, where the player is able to play some of it's squad members story (my personal opinion).

It would make sense adding great play back value but I don't think Bungie will travel down that road.

Ya, I doubted it from the get-go, I just wanted to address it.

Considering the length of Bungie's recent games, I find this hard to believe.

It's not hard to hope for, though.

If you could pick the players from the start of the game you could say start with the the far left character (Sam or Will people think) and they can start missions with a turret gun(flamethrower, laser, rockets) and maybe a secondary heavy weapon, and after you beat the game you can choose to be Linda with the Sniper and a Pistol going through the missions.

You can of course switch weapons throughout the game but the play-back value would be unbelievable picking people. If anything each mission will have where you are a given character, something like ODST.

There is also the possibilitilty of it being Squad Base where you control a squad and have them move. There is so much Bungie could do that it's hard to speculate

It's both, based on the gameplay shown on E3. In the beginning of the game your the Rookie but you have to "uncover" what happen at New Mombaasa by finding artifacts or such that when you find them them all it tells the story of the battle on Earth. Like when the rookie found the detonator, it went to a flash back and you were playing as Duke or whatever his name was. So it was a flash back but you were playing as him.

And AI, turd was implying that it will probably be like this for Reach in which your different Spartans during different levels like your going to be Linda when there is a sniping mission. Now Bungie has not said this is the plan but it's a safe assumption that it could be like that due to ODST engine. If not the other assumption being thrown out there is the game will be FPS Squad Base, in which you can move your squad of Spartans and give them commands. Again only assumption and many people in the community think that this will not happen because it goes away from their engine and what they use too. But they did hire a guy that work on Ghost Recon which is a squad based game so that's why some people think it might be like that.

Again none of this has been confirmed only rumors/assumptions NO PROOF
