I specifically remember Bungie saying they don't see ODST as a $60 title, yet it is listed as 59.99 at all major retailers for pre-order. What happened?

If this is a repeat thread, sorry. I used the search key, but I'm not going to scroll through 1000+ results.

Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen it's true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

...and I'll look down, and whisper "no."

You're are correct Bungie didn't see H3:ODST as $60 title but ultimately the decision for the price was up to Microsoft.

Go Rams and Missouri!

Number one, that was before ODST became more than just an expansion. Also, Bungie has no say in the pricing.

'Utrinque Paratus' - Ready for Anything

Yes, but now you get H3 MP in it as well. So you get:

Campaign
Firefight
MP

You're basically getting the same, if not more than H3.

Gotcha. But obviously they knew they were including all that 4-6 months ago when I saw that somewhere.

no, you can't count the MP as new features. Almost everyone already has the multi as part of halo 3 and therefore it is redundant to add it again. I'm glad they did add it in, but it doesn't count towards a feature of the game. Therefore, in reality we're mainly paying for campaign and firefight.

Microsoft just decided that with a massive amount of halo fans willing to pay some extra money to get their hands on a game that has halo in the title and developed by bungie studios, they could raise the price without really losing any customers. Its basically just -blam!- economics

Brace for carnage, sweet sweet halo carnage :)

ODST has turned into a stand alone game and not much of an expansion anymore so they amped up the price to 60 dollars.

thats true, but it still doesn't offer as many features as halo 3, and probably a shorter campaign. Its a different kind of game, and microsoft thinks (correctly by the way) that we will all pay the full 60 dollars for the game. The number of people who don't buy the game will be covered by the additional 10-20 dollars profit made off of every other copy of the game.

Once again, -blam!- economics on microsofts part. And don't get me wrong, I'm willing to pay for it, just like most other people, but if bungie doesn't think it should be a full priced game, I don't think microsoft should just steal my money.

QFT
at the point that bungie said they did not see it as a 60 dollar title it was 3-4 hours of game play with a small flashback for each of the characters.

the game as detailed in the latest podcast is now about 10 hours plus long, and has multiple flashbacks of about an hour for each character, plus they added firefight, it is now considered to almost be a game of it's own

That may be true, but bungie's only stated comments about the price is the one they made a few months ago about it not being a full priced game and the fact that microsoft has control over the final price.

I'm willing to bet that they don't think its worth the full price since they definitely haven't supported the price in any quotes or interviews. Therefore, I still believe is Microsoft's idea to try and make more money off a game that will sell at almost any price because the community wants it so much.

They actually said that they have multiple missions now so the campaign will be as long or longer then halo 3 odst.

The complete package comes witht wo discs on for campaign firefight and the other with halo 3 matchmaking forge and custom games.

oh i agree, it's microsoft, but i can understand why they feel 'justified' in selling it at this price outside of the fact that we'll buy it(not a hope i wouldn't) it's life...

Recon armor was not gifted or bestowed upon me. I earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Road to Recon complete, on to the next challenge. Halo 3: 1750/1750, ODST: 1000/1000, Reach: 1400/1400.

yes I realize that there are two discs with the game, but I also realize that one of the discs worth of features I already own. So in reality I'm paying for just the campaign and firefight. This brings me back to my previous post where I said that bungie probably doesn't agree with the pricing because they care for their fans and they haven't said anything at all to support the pricing info.

So to me, it still seems as though microsoft is capitalizing on the fact that there is a community of a few million people, or more, that will buy this game regardless of the price because the cover contains the words "Halo" and "Bungie Studios".

before i reply to your statements, i would first like to say that i will be buying Halo 3: ODST no matter what. i don't care if the price is $60, i will gladly pay that much.

Now...10 hours plus of campaign? please don't make up numbers. this has not been said anywhere. i have listened to that podcast and watched pretty much every interview that Bungie employees have done regarding the game.

Okay, when they first released information on the game last year, they were estimating about 3-5 hours of campaign. now they have been saying that the game has grown and gotten bigger. that doesn't necessarily mean the campaign has become a full-fledged 12 hour campaign. for all we know, when they said the game has grown, they may just be talking about the addition of firefight mode and the Halo: Reach beta. we don't know. so, once again, please don't make up numbers.

I also don't understand when people say things such as "this game has firefight, which is practically a game of it's own and worth $30 by itself!" Wrong. we all know firefight is pretty much a Horde mode. yes, it's different, it doesn't end, it's random, and has skulls, etc. but it is a Horde mode. Gears of War 2 didn't charge extra because they added Horde mode. so that whole Firefight = $30, just doesn't make since.

And i'll repeat what i first said in case you forgot: I will be buying Halo 3: ODST no matter what. i don't care if the price is $60, i will gladly pay that much.

Thank You, I've been trying to say the same thing the entire time. Just because firefight is there doesn't add $20 - $30 dollars of gameplay. The halo: Reach beta also shouldn't be added into the price. A lot of people paid for the halo 3 beta but its really just a beta, not the game itself.

This game isn't worth the full price of a new, full game. It doesn't have the number of features that it should to be worth it. I will be buying it, but microsoft is taking advantage of the community and I'm pretty sure that bungie doesn't like it.
