For everyone who thinks that Reach is the planet at the end of Halo 3 and that MC will show up in Reach continuing where he left off, I think you're wrong.
First of all, in the trailer you can here another spartan, not MC, talking saying saying that he is on Reach to fight.
Second, I think the fact that the Halo: Reach title is written differently than the other Halo games is Bungie's attempt to differentiate Reach's story arc from the story arc of the other halo titles. Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo: ODST all take place in the same story timeline and all their titles are written the same way.
Finally, as far as the "In the Beginning, You Know the End", that just refers to the fact that even before we start the game, we know that Reach is going to fall. This is one of the main points of the Halo mythos. We also know that all Spartans except for 117 die on Reach.
So for everyone who is proposing time travel and what-not, be more realistic and just think that maybe Bungie might make a Halo game without MC (i.e. Halo: ODST).
