"If revenge is sweet, and revenge is a dish best served cold... is revenge ice cream?"
... I'm not sure how Bungie had their AI navigate the game space, but i know in the Unreal Engine that characters on foot have different paths than those in vehicles.
The UT3 way of adding nodes for characters to navigate between seems to work well.
As said, I don't know how the A.I. works in Halo 3, but getting the game to turn into a rail shooter would be great for when the player wants the gunners seat.
This could be done by getting the A.I. to follow particular tracks that are safe, but have a view of the bad guys. This is also a nice way to control the action, as you can take the player to and from the action. Just think the A.I. Driver as a tour guide. A guide who needs a little protection.
The main problem for this would be getting the challenge right. It all seemed to work right in Halo 2 for the earth sections... so I'm sure Bungie knows what's wrong and how to fix it... I hope.
