Darkhawk proved my point, he doesn't like the pistol cause he sucks with it and his friends don't. Some ppl I play with hate the Sniper Rifle because they can barely spawn before they are dead, does that mean it's overpowered as well? I don't think so..

No pistol can shoot you 1/2 a mile out! The original pistol is unrealistic! They need to: (1.) weaken it to realistic damage and (2.) void the scope, most pistols aren't equipt with them, and even then are only good to a max of 70 yrds.
Maybe people will use assualt/plasma weapons then...

Once again we must stress... Halo is a game, and a very unique game. Why should it have to fit to stereotypes?? And I use all weapons but the plasma pistol, just have to use the pistol when spawning. Besides.. what other mid to long range weapon can you use? The Sniper is the ONLY long range weapon outside of the pistol, and mid range is also limited.

you keep saying stereotypes shaded, what stereotype do you speak of? balanced games?

I speak of the fact everyone says 'well the pistol is SUPPOSED to do this, it's how it is'. It's how it is in other games or maybe real life, Halo doesn't have to be like every other game.

errr, ok I understand but thats not stereotyping, they are referring on how they liked something from another game and trying to relate it to halo to improve it in general. they are not stereotyping halo because it CANT be stereotyped, the darn game is its own genre for god sakes. and I understand yes halo is not real life/blah blah, but still people expect a certain level of realism in it. if th game is like real life in so many other aspects(death, gravity, blood, vehicles, accuracy[to an extent],partial physics) why not continue along this semi-realistic trend and make the one truly unrealistic thing in the game at least fit partially in the parameters of realism.

The pistol feels a void and does a job, just like every other weapon in the game. Because it's job is mid and long range and can be used a lot of different ways does not make it overpowering, just more used. If the pistol didn't exist there would be a huge void and midrange to long range battles would be much much more one dimensional in which weapons are used.

but the battle rifle fills that void now, its pretty much as solid as the pistol, fires 3 round burts in non zoom(good close) and fire 1 shot in zoom(good long). I no longer see a need for the pistol from Halo:ce ,maybe if they made a weaker version of it in H2 it would be nice and all, but its roll is now no longer needed.

Yes I agree the battle rifle is going to be nice, and it will end up being more overpowered than the pistol if people believe the pistol is over powered. It's a weapon that combines both the AR's close range skill with the pistol's mid range. I just don't see Bungie removing the rocket launcher or shotgun, so why take out the most popular weapon in the game? I understand change happens tho and I look forward to Halo 2.

RL is needed to control vehicle noobs, and the BR will take care of anyone weilding a shotgun, use it just like you use a pistol, backpeddle and fire away.

I know what would cause the Pistol to be better. Give it less shield damage. Assuming you still have the Plasma pistol or some other shield killing gun. Have it so the Pistol only does minimum damage (1/8th body shot or about 1/4 head shot) to the shield BUT when the shield is done, 1-2 shots to the head kills. That is balance IMO, and this would still keep the the line between average / good / great players.

KillyourTV.. quite frankly best response and best idea I've heard. If only Bungie would do just that.

I really hope more focus goes into what type of damage each gun does. I think splash damage should effect both equally (rockets, grenades), human or munition based weapons should do more damage physically and alien or plasma weapons focus on shields. That way you are always carefully planning. This will definitely keep the balance fairly level, especially if there is a high-speed projectile weapon, similar to the pistol, in the Covenant arsenal.

With this, there will be many ways to keep the game intersting, and not just one weapon will be almighty, but rather a strategic combination of weapons.

Well said but many people seem like they want every weapon to do pretty much the same thing in order to balance it. Yes the pistol was a powerful weapon but it wasn't unstoppable by almost any other weapon if in the hands of the right player. I do hope they focus the physical attacking on human weapons and shield attacks more on plasma, it would be great for dual weilding and make for some great combinations. Also the plasma projectile weapon would be a great idea, I hear the carbine is going to be a type of that. I just hope they don't put the fuel rod gun seen in the PC version in, that gun was way too powerful and really ruined Halo PC along with the large vehicle based maps.

yea fuel rod was totally unfun and abused on any map with closer quarters. it doesent require strategy and kills/fires far to quick to be realistic...

I have a copy of Halo PC, and I don't play it. Honestly, I loathe it. Maybe it is because X-Box has the perfect FPS controller (the original "Toaster" model is my favorite), BUT, I believe it is the Gearbox and the tampering of what was already a great game. And don't get me started on the RIDICULOUS custom levels I have seen.

Gearbox quite frankly made Halo PC an unbalanced, boring affair. The maps was entirely too large, all new maps made entirely for 16 player online play, adding nothing but vehicle based CTF maps. The new weapons were absurd and overpowering. The controls wasn't bad, because I have PC keyboard/mouse experience at FPS games, but the game itself wasn't up to the Bungie or Halo standards. The graphics and overall carry over was a bit disappointing, and outside of a couple of maps the new levels were completely disastrous. I hope that none of these 'Gearbox' maps make it into Halo 2, and if there is a Halo 2 for the PC I hope Bungie does it themself or at least finds a company capable of keeping the pride of Halo when it shifts to the PC.

I agree, Gearbox really could have done a better job. The graphics aren't up to par with X-Box either. Its definitely easier to control aiming on PC's ( I was an Unreal Tournament junkie for a while ), but the X-Box has it going on with their controller(s).

Back to topic though, perhaps there will be a Pistol in Halo 2 along the lines of what I mentioned, perhaps there won't be any Pistol. Maybe the Pistol will just be another "crap, I start with THIS" gun, like so many FPS have. Bungie is a good company, and hopefully we will all be blindsided and granted something we couldn't have imagined. Only time (Nov. 9th) will tell.

Yes, and I figure they will give us a nice suprise. I am pretty sure the battle rifle will be the beginning gun and sources say there won't be a pistol, that the battle rifle will takes it's place. I will miss the pistol and I am sure Bungie won't disappoint. Like every other Halo junkie.. I can't wait for November 9th.

i heard you all blabling about the unbalance of the pistol and the fuel rod gun, they should both appear in halo 2, but the pistol should do the damage that was said by that guy with the legendary symbol in the first page and the fuel rod gun should have only like 15/20 shots, overcharge after 5/7 shots and have slower firing rate, thats the way i think it should be, also, i think that every weapon that exists in single player should be in multiplayer in halo2, not like in halo1 that you saw the sword, the frg, and that beatiful tank the wraith, and couldn't use them in mp, and to finish, if they make a halo2 pc, it should be just like halo2 xbox, no new stuff. If anyone disagrees, i respect that, but this is what i think.

Good points. I agree the pistol should be in Halo 2, and affect physical attacks the same as in Halo: CE but do less to shields. The Fuel Rod Gun, if there, should be weakened to where it's not more powerful than the RL, it shoots too fast and does too much damage as is. All single player weapons should be in Multiplayer, but the stupid tank I could care less about, vehicles require very little skill and more noob related. I don't play Halo to fly around, I play it to own with weapons.

So in other words, I want the pistol back, which probably won't happen. I don't believe there is any need for the Fuel Rod Gun, but if it is there, it should be weakened heavily.

I love using the vehicles. I have developed skill with them, and in the realm of vehicles, it should always be a "vehicle vs. vehicle" encounter. Otherwise, yes, they are noobish. Now the sniper Rockets of the Scorpion are a little ridiculous. I think a speed 3x that of the rocket launcher would have been acceptable, because that thing just PISSES ME OFF!!!! Heh.

i agree with you shadedhalo, but if they remove the fuel rod gun, the game will lose one of the most cool ( i mean the shot, what pretty Light, oops, i'm dead) weapons it has, it should be like the weapon the grunts use in single player, in normal, that's the power i think it should have, (it should fire a little faster than the grunts do) but its my favourite weapon(not counting the pistol) it is the RL version of the covies ( it must be in halo2). also for the tank, i want it for humam vs bots, it would really cool to atack the enemy base with a team of a scorpion and a wraith, i also don't use vehicles in mp agaist other people, i wouldn't say they are for noobs but i just don't like them very much...
