In my opinion, I dont want any more large maps. I dont think that large maps work well with Halo 2/3 gameplay. The vehicles are too dominant (not due to the driver/gunners skill necessarily, but the enemies' inability to damage them without specific weapons) and the weapons are too close-range oriented and random.
Personally I feel that the Laser is too dominant on big maps. That thing should not be a hitscan weapon. It's too easy to use and makes vehicles a deathtrap.

This is why i'm 50/50 on a Blood Gulch remake. It's a fun map, but if they put a Laser on it, it would be ruined.

We already have a blood glutch remake: Valhalla. The MLG people requested a remake of Midship.

yeah mate but some peep's want the classic Blood gulch
They already tried making an exact remake and idiots just flamed their ass.
e.g. Guardian and Blackout.
People always say how crap Blackout is, when its an exact remake of Lockout

  • 06.12.2009 3:53 AM PDT

Dude!!!! Blood gulch was my all time favorite map!And i hate covenant maps, like assembly... =(

There are certain things that Bungie got wrong with Blackout. To say it's an exact remake would be false.

All we, as a community do, is ask ask ask. -blam!- people!

We asked for a Survival Mode.
We got it. (Firefight)
We asked for more Halo.
We got it. (Reach, ODST)
We asked for remakes.
We got it. (Most of them)

Let Bungie take a break!
They've worked so hard for Halo 3 and we keep on asking. Relax!

So I'm asking, which one would you rather? The fun-for-everyone Blood Gulch? Or the not-fun-for-everyone-but-Slayer-fans.

Yes, I would rather have the fun-for-me Midship, over the fun-for-you Blood Gulch.

Lots and lots of people clamoured for midship. Enough to justify it. You say more people begged for blood gulch. That's probably the case but it neglects the fact that so many people begged for small symmetrical maps as a whole, which Halo 3 was very much lacking in.

  • 06.12.2009 4:25 AM PDT

I tried to smoke some hash, but the corned beef wouldn't light!

I would like to see more new made maps than remakes.

It's covenant, therefore, i'm happy.

I have no signature... exept for this one...

You can't say that Blood Gulch isn't in Halo 3. It hasn't been remade but split up to two maps; Standoff and Valhalla mixed together = BG

Yes yes I know, sorry it was the only way I could describe those people.
But I did say "not-fun-for-everyone-but-slayer-fans" (I think).
I like Midship too, by the way.

Blood Gulch would be terrible for Halo 3 because it's simply too big. All of the weapons in H3 are suited towards short range combat. The Battle Rifle has nowhere near the range of the old Pistol and even the Sniper Rifle has a shorter effective range. Standoff is a map that tries to capture the essence of Blood Gulch in many ways but it was designed in a way that suits the gameplay of Halo 3... Closer combat. And Valhalla is yet another spiritual successor that's geared more to a higher player count.

Midship was probably chosen because Halo 3 is sorely lacking in small, FFA arena maps. The Pit was the only "small arena" map when the game launched. Since then we've only had Assembly.

Even if Blood Gulch could work in Halo 3, it's not just about popularity. It's about offering a well-rounded range of maps for the game. The game launched with pretty much medium-sized maps across the board and so far they've given us 2 BTB maps, 2 Forge maps, 2 medium sized maps, and 1 small-ish map (Assembly). It makes sense to have Midship in the next batch.

I understand that some people really like large maps, but fact is, I don't think Halo 3 works particularly well on big maps either. I think there is a lack of options when you want to take out vehicles and that leads to two things: only one person will generally own vehicles (the one who got the Laser the fastest), whereas people without it will be encouraged to just give up (leading to team killing, quitting and all sorts of bad player behavior).

Yes, you can take vehicles out in a variety of ways, but a couple are way more efficient than others (Laser, Rockets at close range), while others require a lot more skill/luck (stickies, plasma pistol, even power drain to some extent - I see more people using power drains badly rather than well) and yet others even more luck/skill (sniping drivers/gunners, frag grenades to turn the hog over a cliff, for instance). All this assuming driver and gunner(s) know what they're doing, of course.

The H3 sandbox really is geared towards close-mid range as the sweet spot for H3 combat.

Quoted x3 for people that dont get it. We have Valhalla. Stop complaining about blood gulch/coag. Bungie is NOT gona go out of their time, just to give us something we ALREADY HAVE.

Edit: also, guardian was a map to look 'similar' to lockout, but not have same characteristics. Notice blackout is 99% exactly layed out like Lockout. Guardian takes its layout slightly, but it completly different.
Two bases in a canyon doesn't mean Blood Gulch! Ok, if that is all it takes then:
We don't need Heretic, Assembly is Midship.
We don't need Blackout, Guardian is Lockout.

There goes 2 of your MLG maps.

The MLG Tools don't even use some of the DLC maps *COUGHCOUGHBLACKOUTCOLDSTORAGECOUGHCOUGH*

It's not like a Blood Gulch wasn't remade because of the Midship remake.

They are unrelated.

Now that (unfortunetly) Heretic's been confirmed as Midship, why? So many more people have asked, begged, and demanded for Blood Gulch. And wouldn't Bungie go for the more popular demand, instead of the small population of MLG? (And so on).

So I'm asking, which one would you rather? The fun-for-everyone Blood Gulch? Or the not-fun-for-everyone-but-Slayer-fans.

Midship rules, and unlike Blood Gulch it would actually play well on Halo 3.

Maybe because most people dont want to pay for the same content in 3 seperate games.

Bungie should go ahead with a Headlong Remake, like i loved Blood Gulch and i used to complain alot about it being absent from Halo 3, but i no longer care it is a bit bland when you think of it. Headlong has a cool setting and alot of stratagies for players to choose from. Also a remake of Terminal or Containment would be neat to. They have many maps that they could remake but if i could list a few it would be.

1.Headlong
2.Relic
3. Acsension
4,Ivory Tower
5.Colussus
6.Burial mounds
7.Turf
8.Waterworks
9.Warlock
10.Sanctuary

These are a few of my favourites from Halo 2. of course, its to much to ask for each and every classic map butt a few more would be nice. Halo CE had plenty of good maps that Bungie could choose from. But IMO i would like more City based maps. like Terminal and Headlong. Bungie has overdone the Forerunner theme and we havent seen enough of Earth and maybe some more of Space based maps. In short they should make a map pack dedicated to map remakes. I would buy it, although new maps are good to.

Two movies you should watch: Fight Club and Pineapple Express

"Wait. What do you mean, it's dead?"
"If marijuana is not legal within the next five years I have no faith left in humanity, period. Everyone likes smoking weed. They have for thousands of years. They're not going to stop anytime soon. You know? It makes everything better. Makes food taste better, makes music better. It makes sex feel better for God's sake. It makes -blam!- movies better you know?"

To the OP, Midship wasn't just for slayer it worked perfectly with CtF 2 or 1 sided and more people wanted the map than just MLGers and wannabes combined.

Agreed. The laser should not have been in the game, we should have gotten the gauss rifle that Johnson used in Contact Harvest; you need to lead your shots, but it could kill any vehicle in one hit if you hit its weak spot (every vehicle should have one like the Ghost did in H2) and could kill most small vehicles in one hit.

actually, Bungie's upcoming map Longshore will be a remake of Relic

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)
