Hobo Grunt's mother died, so everyone thought 'Sum1 ded! This will be funeeh! LAFFF AT ME NOW THAT I MAKE FUN OF DED PEPEL'.

They get a special place in hell.

Master chief was seen drifting towards a planet ( which i am now guessing is reach) and the end of halo 3.

So my guess is that in the game after Halo:Reach, you will crash into the charred remains of reach, and the game will take place from there. Maybe you'll find some surviving spartans from Halo:Reach? Maybe you'll locate an underground ONI lab that made it through the glassing and use it to communicate with the unsc? While you wait for the unsc to come a pick you up you realize theres some crazy stuff goin on in the scary underground lab and the game turns into a survival horror?

Main idea: Maybe the chief ends up back on reach.

Thoughts?

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Um....we dont even know if there will be a game after Reach.....

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves.

And the legendary ending planet is not Reach.

1) Reach was glassed before the events of Halo:CE.
2) The Ark, the last level of Halo 3, was beyond the rim of the Milky Way galaxy, and Chief is stranded there, tens of thousands of lightyears from Earth.
3) Reach is only about 5 lightyears from Earth and even with Slipstream travel, takes a chunk of time to get there.
4) Therefore Chief is NOT at Reach, he must be at a older Forerunner planet.

The Chief's half of the ship made it through the slip space rupture, the ship just broke up during the jump, because there wouldn't be any planets outside of the galaxy.

Yes, I know. I've read all 6 current books. The Covenant glassed most of Reach sans a small area that had an underground ONI base. Halsey and a couple other spartans went back to Reach after it was glassed and rescued some folks there and recovered what the Covenant were looking for. But for all intent and purposes, Reach is NOT the planet at the end of Halo 3: Master Chief is simply TOO far away to get to it. It takes weeks to reach Reach from Earth with slipstream travel, and Chief is thousands of times further away with no slipstream capability.

the planet isn't Onyx, either. It was destroyed about 3 months before the start of Halo 3 by Kirk and two FENRIS nukes leaving behind trillions of sentinels. Wish Nylund would write the next book dealing with Halsey and company on the shield world...

Um, no. The forward half of the ship made it through the slipspace window. The back half with the Chief and Cortana did not. They are stuck outside the rim of our galaxy, probably in the Large Magellanic Cloud, about 160,000 lightyears away.

1. the space-boxes don't match up.
2. Reach was glassed 1+ years before the legendary ending, there would be no lights.

What do you mean by this?

O ========== >> =============O
ARK .................. SHIP ...................... EARTH

O ==========================( >)>
ARK................................................. SHIP (EARTH)

The Halo ring activates, and the portals on both ends collapse, severing the ship in two. The front half has passed through the exit, so makes it to Earth, the back half was still in the wormhole (slipspace between two ruptures/portals), so it was trapped inside when the portal collapsed in front of it. Without constant acceleration at a high enough velocity, an object will drop out of slipspace, as detailed in FS when the Spirit falls out of slipsace. The ship drops out of slipspace somewhere between Earth and the Ark, but this is a vast region since the Ark is 250,000+ LY away from the Milky Way's core.

It could be at:

A Forerunner world
A Forerunner shield world (possibly the one which the micro-compressed entrance within Onyx led to)

The Covenant begin glassing Reach on August 30th 2552. The end of Halo 3 is dated March 3rd 2553. Meaning Reach was glassed 6 months prior.

The Pillar of Autumn arrived at the Delta Halo on September 19th 2552 (this is when Halo: CE begins) after traveling in slipspace for 20 days (They left when Reach was glassed).

The events of Halo 3 begin on December 9th 2552, 3 months after Reach was glassed.

So the whole of Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 happen over the course of 5 and a half months, from Sep. 19th to March 3rd.

Okay, .5+ years. Doesn't make a difference. There wouldn't be any lights on a glassed world.

Probably not (unless it's still hot and giving off residual heat radiation, but probably not.).

Besides, I said the planet at the end of Halo 3 wasn't Reach or Onyx. It's more than likely a NEW Forerunner planet in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Hopefully another shield world that connects to the Dyson Sphere than Halsey and company are on...

actually, if you pay attention, you can see the iris nebula in the background of the legendary ending. The Iris Nebula is around 1300 light years away.

One problem:

The Milky Way is 100,000 lightyears across. Earth sits about 26,000 lightyears from the galactic center. The Ark is BEYOND the galactic rim, which is about 24,000 lightyears away. The Iris Nebula is withing the Milky Way.

Bungie likely took an artistic lisence and used the nebula as a backdrop, or a whole heck of a lot of years have passed and the Forward Unto Dawn has drifted tens of thousands of lightyears, which would take a hell of a lot of time (the power system would probably fail) and Chief would die.

I wish Bungie would clear these distances up and whatnot. Galactic rim is 24,000 lightyears from us, Iris nebula is 1300 lightyears away, and the Ark is over 24,000 lightyears away since it's beyond the rim (also because the Halo has an effective "blast" radius of 12,500 lightyears).

Since the ring was fired, it must've been a minimum of 12,500 lightyears away.

I'm going to go with Bungie taking an artistic license on the Iris Nebula.

It also helps when you have the internet and the books and can simply search/skim through the books and find the info.

Anyone who had a brain could figure that out.

Its an interest. I mean, by insulting these 2 people, you insult the entire world. Everybody enjoys something so what do you have against two people who like halo and enjoy learning the storie?

There must be something you enjoy learning about, does that mean you have no life too?

Everybody likes something. If you like something, wouldn't you want to know a lot about it? At least I would. And I bet almost everyone in this thread does too.

I used to have a massive interest in the story but I guess its died down.
