Subject: ODSTs can wield Hammers?

At 1:24 in the Gamereactor video, we can see an ODST using a hammer. Does this surprise anyone else? I thought we wouldn't be able to use these weapons..

There was a post saying no swords on the news page I thought once..? I thought this would also apply to hammers..

What exactly would prevent an ODST from using one?

The fact that they look pretty heavy to lift let alone swing?

Spartans are supersoldiers capable of flipping tanks while ODSTs are regular people.

Regardless, any one near the physical fitness required of the Marines, would be able to not only lift it, but swing it at an enemy.

EDIT: Its a hammer. No real military makes weapons that their soldiers have to carry extremely heavy. Why would a fictional one?

So what?

So I find it odd they can't use swords, and humans cant use hammers.

ODSTs are humans, and humans in Halo 3 can't use hammers, without a glitch.

It looks HUGELY heavy.. also..

I can use a hammer, so why can't a tuff Marine use it?

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

Because this fictional military happens to be ten foot tall gorillas? Spikers are pretty damn heavy, too.

Regardless, it is still easier to carry something that is 20lbs than something that is 250lbs, no matter how big you are.

because it's as huge as them and sends off an energy wave I'm surprised doesn't knock them down....

Plus the hammer is about the same size as a human

Also guys, the hammer is at 1:52 My bad

We just need to instigate more elitism and Mythic shenanigans.

It is also a gravity hammer. Why can't it have a anti gravity field that makes it lighter?

That's a valid point, but nothing says they're gravity equipment is light..

Hmmm an anti gravity device that is heavy.. Odd...

Who knows?

Those are actually 2 Brute chieftains in the video... form what I see.

  • 06.11.2009 8:10 PM PDT

The way I see it is that there is less whining if we are able to use it, otherwise it would just be a cryfest since people wouldn't be able to use their "beloved hamma".

There are also dropped covenant equipment, from what i see.. But we cant use that either...

"Take my advice. Rookie. You ever fall for a woman?

...Make sure she's got balls."

Maybe the term "gravity" in Gravity Hammer apply's to the fact that it makes it lighter for the wielder and thus making it easier to swing to cause more damage.

  • 06.11.2009 8:36 PM PDT

wtf

So you're supporting my point?

Anyway my point was that it wasn't an ODST wielding a hammer, but a Chieftan. In other words, common sense suggests that ODST's can't wield hammers due to the massive size.

yeah this whole odst wielding a hammer thing is pretty weird; I mean woudnt the odst weilding the hammer fly back like 100 feet when he would smash it to the hammer into the ground?

I believe the Gravity Hammer is named due to the gravity field generated by a high-velocity swing, crushing the foe with gravimetric power. Pretty brutal. And those jets of blue are probably exhaust pipes of sorts. Either way, we can still use it :)

Why we can use it remains a mystery, and I don't expect someone with legitimate knowledge to tell us the truth (a Bungie employee for example). Let's just say that ODSTs could use them, but they preferred using standard type weaponry due to enormous kickback released from the Gravity Hammers.
