Subject: Why is it called Halo 3 ODST (emphasis on the 3)

Halo 3 engine maybe, just a guess.

-blam!- GTFO OF MY SIGNATURE

I guess it's because it shares the game engine as Halo 3, comes with Halo 3 maps and multiplayer, and comes after Halo 3.

What would you rather have it named then, if not Halo 3: ODST?

Anyway it's just a number, and I thought it was always called Halo: ODST in the first place? And before that, Halo: Recon?

o.k.
i hear everyone's point, although I think it would still make more sense as just Halo: ODST

and dont forget they use halo in the title so you know what type of game your purchasing, and as for the 3, well they cant make it halo 4 as those words apparently dont go together, and they fit inbetween halo 2 and three, so halo 2.5 anyone?

  • 06.12.2009 8:44 AM PDT

O Rly?

If it bridges the gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3, it should be called Halo 2.5 :).

probably an excuse for the campaign being a bit shorter.

it was orriginally supposed to be an expansion, but as the project developed the once 3-5 hour campaign has more than doubled in size according to the podcast making it a 10-12 hour game which is full length

actually it takes place in the middle of halo 2, with no events being during halo 3. at thie point this game is happening, the Cheif is still on his way to delta halo

Halo 3: ODST would seem to suggest the ODST story played upon the Halo 3 engine.

With the release of Halo Reach, it seems Bungie will have moved away from using a 'engine' version number within their game title.

Listen guys, if ODST should be called Halo 2: ODST, It will mean that it will use the Halo 2 Engine and If it's called Halo: ODST, then It's going to use a new Halo engine.
The reason why it is called Halo 3 ODST because it's using the Halo 3 Engine and it has a disk with full Halo 3 Multiplayer.
Come on guys, It should not be called Halo: ODST or Either Halo 2: ODST, though It takes events between Halo 2 and Halo 3

I don't know where you got your info from, but (as others have said) ODST ships with everything Halo 3 had (except for the original campaign, as far as we know) and more. New maps, the new Reach beta, and an entirely new campaign. It's like Halo 3 plus.

Also, it's called Halo 3: ODST because it's an expansion technically, not an entirely new game. Although the price is that of a new game.

That's pretty good for 2 hours of music without explosions and people yelling. I don't care if you steal it, but God does...

Halo 3 engine.

Halo 3 enemies.

Halo 3 multiplayer.

Forge.

Theatre.

Website support.

Halo 3 engine: doesnt matter if the gameplay is way different

Halo 3 enemies: i'm sure that grunts, standard vehichles, and maybe even brutes will be in most future halo games (against the covenant anyway)

Halo 3 multiplayer: not at all. the only multiplayer on the odst disc is firefight

Forge: no forge

Theatre: was founded in halo 3, but does not characterize the game enough to classify a game as an expansion pack if used.

Website support: why not halo 2 odst then? (i think you know what i mean by that)

Engine] The gameplay ISN'T way different. You go around, shoot enemies until their shields go down, then keep shooting them, perhaps in the head. You can pick and choose your battles slightly more than H3, and you can outline the enemies in red. Despite slight differences jumps, melee, and the heath system, it is Halo 3 combat.

Enemies] It's not that they're simply the same races of enemies, they are EXACTLY THE SAME as how they were in Halo 3. Halo 2 brutes != Halo 3 brutes, but Halo 3 brutes ==Halo 3: ODST brutes. Straight ports of the enemies, which helps explain the accelerated dev cycle for it.

Multiplayer] The second disk has all of halo 3 multiplayer, and then some. Same box, so it's a part of the game.

Forge] See point above. Multiplayer has forge.

Theatre] Your defense is a non-argument.

Website] Halo 2 has rudimentary multiplayer tracking. Halo 3's and ODST's have things such as medal counts, campaign summaries, screenshots, and all of that other spiffy stuff you can get to by clicking Halo 3 under your emblem at the top of the page.
