I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Are you honestly going to argue semantics with me over this? You're right, she's not stupid. She REALIZES that they did not make it to Earth. Throwing up a beacon is standard procedure for ANY stranded vessel, regardless of where they are. If they were anywhere near Sol, why would Chief go into Cryo sleep?
Way to completely miss the point. This is far from semantics:
You're right, Cortana realizes that they did not make it to Earth. Cortana does not realize, however, that they did not make it to Sol. Read my post. Read her quotes. She does think that they made it through the portal in some fashion or another.
It doesn't matter if "dropping a beacon is standard procedure" (which by the way you pulled out of our ass considering such a thing has never been stated, ever in any piece of Halo content), because she explicitly states that it might take awhile. Why the hell would a super-intelligent AI like Cortana make such a statement?
Again let me reiterate something to you. That "awhile" equates to 200,000+ years. Consider that the frigate's power is almost entirely offline, which would certainly limit her ability to actively scan and document their surrounding space to known locations and starmaps. It is a hell of a lot more likely that Chief went into cryosleep because of this shorter measure of time that Cortana seems to have in mind. Not to mention, what the hell is there for a Spartan to do on a ship that could be drifting for months? Couple this with the fact that the frigate is blown in half, and the MJOLNIR suits only have 90 minutes of oxygen support in Zero-G situations, it would make sense for him to go into Cryosleep regardless.
Because they are not dead, which she also explicitly stated that they would be if they didn't make it through in time, she believes that they made it through. And they did, but they just didn't go back to where they think they did.

I've read the terminals, it's just been a very long time.
And that still doesn't explain why the portal would arbitrarily decide to port their half of the ship somewhere different all on its own.
That's just it, though. It most likely didn't. In said terminals, the final one, if I'm not mistaken, Mendicant Bias says that he would have his creators know that he has atoned, and that [you] would be his example. Some think that this is a generic statement referring to humanity, helping with the Halo's destruction and also delaying it so they could make it through the portal in time, but others, including myself, believe that this refers to Mendicant Bias sending their half of the frigate somewhere else, with the statement being much more literal rather than symbolic.
