according to this video that was just posted in the Bungie blog:

http://www.gamereactor.dk/grtv/?id=4855

the cheif producer said "the game is completely done." Why are they waiting until September??? I can understand if the components of the game were done and now its just time for polishing for three months, but he said COMPLETELY done.

That also worries me about the campaign being extremely short, since theyre already completely done, and its only been worked on since the release of halo 3.

First, the reason it normally takes so long is because they build a new engine. They didn't have to this time, saving them over a year of work, due to it running on the H3 Engine. Second, it has to have MILLIONS of Boxes, manuals, cover/back arts, disks, and disk arts printed. That takes a while. That is why

well for one, if you remember the release of halo 3 was almost 2years ago now. besides November is the games 'season' if you will. if they released now everyone would desert it as soon as november came and released games such as Modern warfare 2 and left 4 dead 2. but being in direct competition means people will be more open minded instead of thinking odst is old now, lets play something new.
you get me?

It's hard to understand as a person who wants the game now, but still, they know what they're doing. you should know that.

The device has been modified....

As bungie have said in a past weekly update the game is completely playable from start to finish. This is the stage where they test the game out over and over for any major bugs/glitches so then it is an enjoyable experience. Plus as already said they'll be printing out box art, manuals, the discs itself, the collectors edition wireless controller etc.

Plus they'd be testing out their servers etc for firefight/co-op

its ok i used it 25% of the time but when someone used it on me thats when i started calling him a n00b and a modder and how i was going to give him negative feedback you sissy needler user.

They are probably making the second disk now.

Heyyyyoh.

1. They are currently mass producing the game in factories.
2. They still have to box and ship millions of games to thousands of stores across the globe.
3. They have yet to air any ads on television.

These things take time, I'm thinking the earliest they can release the game is within four months.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

The release date is decided by the publisher (Microsoft in this case), and is generally timed for maximum sales and profits. There are also logistics issues to consider, such as making the discs, printing the labels, merchandising opportunities, and others.

Because if they wait until September, they can hype it up more, and things always sell more in holiday times (Fall) rather than now, the Summer, when there's no major gift-giving holidays in the US.

Mm hmm. However, wouldn't it make sense to release it at the start of the Summer holidays, when everyone finishes school, and will have an ass-load of free time?

Then again, a closer-to-christmas sale would gather a lot of revenue over the holiday season...

Urgh. All great games come out when I go back to school, not when I leave.

=(

  • 06.12.2009 12:28 PM PDT

How do you know they only started working on this after Halo 3 was released? Do you think they started on Halo: Reach after Halo 3: ODST was released? Doesnt make sense does it..? Game studios work on multiple projects at once.

Like Foman said.. they will sell their game when they can maximize profits. The Harry Potter movie was supposed to be released last November but when they saw how well The Dark Knight did on a July 15 (midsummer) release, they changed the date to hit theaters 8 months later than the original date. It was ready for theaters over a year ago and they waited to make the most money. Make sense?

Bungie seems to have a thing for 7/7/09. 7 is their favorite number.

Well, that about covers it.

If Microsoft and Bungie haven't started with making discs, label covers and such yet, then Bungie is still bug fixing and playtesting the game. Halo 3 ODST has probably gone "gold" in content early in the new year. Since they're done with the game's content, now they need to make sure it works.

Game Fuel's awesome. It tastes like liquid gummy worms.

But back to topic. They haven't stated that the game has "went gold". This means they are not completely done yet and haven't sent it to the manufacturer for mass production. Also they probably are tweaking the game manual and box art. And of course, as Foman said, MS sets the date and they think that time will maximize profits. I don't fully understand this as I think any game with Halo in the title is going to sell ridiculously well anyway, but I'm not exactly in the industry, so I could just be an idiot.

  • 06.12.2009 1:36 PM PDT

It's not Hip-Hop, its Electro.... prick.

They need t make the millions of discs and controllers and game boxes and merchandise that will be bought. Plus they need to ship it to all the gamesops and EB games and other places where it can be bought

  • 06.12.2009 1:38 PM PDT

One of the few and the proud, a Mythic Conqueror, I am.

I'm sure it's not completely done. Final testing is not..."done." If it hasn't gone gold, then it's not "done."
