Hello all. People often see some of my ideas as crazy, or over-the-top, with no chance of being implemented because they're too indepth. Well, I say to those people: you are wrong.

A few months before the Halo 3 Beta was released (the way we first learned about the earliest prototypes of armor permutations), I posted a thread called Hybrid Armor in the Halo 3 forum.

It was essentially my own idea for more customization for armor in Halo 3, and bungie may even have seen my idea and implemented a less in-depth version in the form of Armor permutations. I am going to post an updated version of my original idea for Halo REACH, as this would be the next logical step in evolution for Armor permutations.

All of the armor will be identical in terms balance; they will have no difference on things like speed, melee, shields, etc. -- they will be purely asthetic! The Elites from campaign in H2 were scaled down to fit in with the MP, so the same would be done for REACH. ODST skins would be scaled-up to be as tall as Spartans/Elites.

We should be able to customize out entire body, not just the few portions we can in Halo 3.

Trunk:
Helmet
Chest
Stomach
Groin

Upper limbs:
Shoulder ( L / R )
Upper arm ( L / R )
Forerarm ( L / R )
Hand ( L / R )

Lower limbs:
Thigh ( L / R )
Leg ( L / R )
Foot ( L / R )

I believe that all permutations from Halo 3 should be available, even though the Mk VI was to the best of our knowledge not yet built at the time (though according to Spartan BLACK, a pre-Reach comic, the Mk VI was somehow constructed before the Battle of Reach, but not widely distributed until a few months later.)

I think that we should be able to first choose our species:

Human (Spartan)
Elite (Sangheili)

After choosing our species, we should be able to select our gender like we can in Halo 3. This will change the death sounds, and judging by the slender Spartan in the REACH banner, possibly could change the sillhouette of our character (but nothing like any of those Volleyball Games).

After this, we should be able to choose armor segments for each of the aforementioned bodyparts. Every armor system will be complete, with unique parts for the entire body (so the H3 permutations would need some additions done by Bungie).

SPARTAN-II
MJOLNIR Mk V (Halo 1)
MJOLNIR Mk IV (Halo Wars)
MJOLNIR Mk VI (Halo 3)
MJOLNIR prototype (pre-Halo)
SPI Mk III Halo: Ghosts of Onyx
ODST (Halo 3)
All armor permutations included in Halo 3
In addition, the Halo 3: ODST permutations should be included:
Mickey
Romeo
Dare
Dutch
All armor permutations included in the Halo REACH banner

ELITE
Councilor (Halo 2) -- the helmet is aesthetic, the hitboxes match a regular Elite
Xytan (Halo: Ghosts of Onyx)
Supreme Commander (Halo Graphic Novel)
Honor Guard (Halo 2)
Arbiter
Zealot (Halo 1)
Special Operations (Super-spiked, Halo 1)
Ranger (Halo2)
Major (Spiked, Halo 1)
Minor (Curved, Halo 2)
Heretic Leader (Halo 2)
Heretic (Halo 2)
In addition, all permutations featured in Halo 3

You should be able to color each segment of armor separately, so you could have (for example) a red chest-plate, whily the rest of your body is black. Some segments would have primary and secondary colors, such as the helmets could have a vertical stripe on them, or your armor could have different-color inlays on your chest.

In addition to coloring each segment of armor, you should be able to add a band to your arm and leg like in Halo 3, and color that separately.

The emblems should appear in locations hybrid between H2 and H3: like in Halo 2, your emblem should appear on your back. Like H3, your emblem should appear on your shoulder.

Before you say anything negative, take a look at this quote from my original hybrid armor idea (before we learned about armor permutations):

Are you suggesting we should be able to take the "Mark 5" should and mix it with "Mark 6" torso, and a SPI armor helmet? That just gets silly, in my opinion.. But I think having all these armor variants would rock. :)

Personally I like the idea of further armor weapon customization. The only snags are the permutations that alter the character model. ODST and certain elites are either too small or too large for general gameplay. The helmets that Honor Guards and council members were would make them stand out far too much. Not to mention the advantage of being a smaller ODST unit.

If were simply talking skins, the ODST template is possible, but still awkward. Afterwall you would not expect an ODST to be able to fight like a Spartan or an Elite. Overall though I agree with the idea. I also thought that the armor custumization was going to be a bit more in depth than chest/shoulder/helmet in Halo3.

I agree, Halo Reach better have some sweet customization. Check out my thread here for some of my armor color ideas.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

I would like to see some of these idea's implemented. Why not, everyone loves more custiomization. But, what I don't want to see happen is for Spartans to start looking a lot more like WoW characters.

I don't think we will get to play as other Spartan characters from campaign. Because, they all vary in heigth and length, which would cause a different hit-box range which would cause game-balance issues. Bungie is all about game balance when it comes to Halo. So I wouldn't count on that, but I could be wrong.

What I would like to see is a further, in-depth version of the armor custiomization we have now, including the ability to have DLC armor. The different types of ODST helmets sounds cool, but I think they should just stick with the current one, and the skull one, because that looks badass. I don't really care about the elite armor because I never choose to be an elite so it really doesn't effect me.

As for the body part armor, I think they should have leg armor, hand armor, and foot armor added. But I really only think they would (if they are) add leg armor.

What I'm curious to see about what they are doing is to see if they are going to do another Recon Armor or Bungie Armor idea. I think that they should just have all armor availabe except for a Bungie Armor. They made the game after all....

They could simply scale up/down the skins from campaign mode to fit into multiplayer. Epic did it with RAAM, so I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue for Bungie.

Armor Permutations were well recieved in Halo 3, don't see why they wouldn't do more in Reach.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

I would love this. The customization in H3 seemed a bit limited compared to games like Rainbow Six: Vegas and I would love further tweaking of your character.

I loved the custimization in Halo 3, and getting to play in more varied elite armor and more areas of custimizatin would definatly sweeten the deal.

This is true, though that still wouldn't solve all of the model issues it would at least broaden the pallet a bit.

Certain models can't be accurately scaled to fit the general size of other permutations and still be proportionate. Everyone craved to be a brute in Halo 3, but the Brute's frame is too wide and broad, and so even if it were scaled down height-wise, it's width would still be too large.

I know you didn't mention Brutes, but it could provide issues for models like the Councilor Elites, the Spartan on the left in the silhouette, etc.

I can almost guarantee you that we won't see early machinations of PROJECT MJOLNIR since the suits required outside power sources which limited mobility.

I'd love true SPI, though. EVA is great, but it's not as cool, in my opinion. Also, I think it truly would be great to have full customization. Not just groin, either, but legs, too. Having a true Mk. V suit would be awesome.

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

I have had some gisagreements with you beforem but this is good.

Variety is the spice of life, and cusomization leads to variety.

AND THATS WHY I HATE MLG, NO VARIETY!!!!

There, it's out...

I think it'd be cool if they did sort of a "Welcome to the UNSC" thing when you start up MP for the first time. It could play a video of Johnson welcoming you, then have you proceed to pick your species, gender, armor, emblem, colors, and service tag. If they added some more weapons like the MA5K, it'd be cool to pick your starting weapon too. ex - MA5C, MA5K, etc. You could pick your sidearm too. ex - M6G, M6C, M6J, etc. I'm sure it could be balanced out.

Just my two cents.

This.

I think this would be really cool if you could pick the weapon in your service card, but being able to choose your starting weapon would destroy any sort of balance in the game (it would become like COD or something else).

Haha! That guy looks like a super hero. He needs some outside underwear, though.
Imo, capes wouldn't fit in.

I say yes, nothing bad with a little customisation. It shouldn't be a priority when developing the game, though. They should just add more depending on how much time they have left.

Bungie has stated that black isn't allowed, though. Blends in too much in dark areas.
One thing with the colour: If I have a green and pink helmet, orange groin, purple torso, red forearms, grey for the rest of the arm, brown thighs and blurple legs (yeah, I'm too tired to think of any other colours), I would be pretty distracting to the other team. It would be like a free flare.

I also think visors (or the eye thingies for Elites) should be custumizable. The colours for them should only be bright, like yellow, red, bright green, bright blue, pink or the classic orange, so people don't just pick all white and are invisible in snow.

I'm surprised there are no groin jokes...
Crap, I jinxed it.

Once again, Cheehwawa returns with another epic idea, this would be great, but I could imagine people going ape $hit with this and making their armor look crazy to the point where they look like clowns.

They'll probably keep it like it is now where you can only see customizable colors in free for all. Otherwise it'll be the classic red vs. blue.
