Hello all. People often see some of my ideas as crazy, or over-the-top, with no chance of being implemented because they're too indepth. Well, I say to those people: you are wrong.
A few months before the Halo 3 Beta was released (the way we first learned about the earliest prototypes of armor permutations), I posted a thread called Hybrid Armor in the Halo 3 forum.
It was essentially my own idea for more customization for armor in Halo 3, and bungie may even have seen my idea and implemented a less in-depth version in the form of Armor permutations. I am going to post an updated version of my original idea for Halo REACH, as this would be the next logical step in evolution for Armor permutations.
All of the armor will be identical in terms balance; they will have no difference on things like speed, melee, shields, etc. -- they will be purely asthetic! The Elites from campaign in H2 were scaled down to fit in with the MP, so the same would be done for REACH. ODST skins would be scaled-up to be as tall as Spartans/Elites.
We should be able to customize out entire body, not just the few portions we can in Halo 3.
Trunk:
Helmet
Chest
Stomach
Groin
Upper limbs:
Shoulder ( L / R )
Upper arm ( L / R )
Forerarm ( L / R )
Hand ( L / R )
Lower limbs:
Thigh ( L / R )
Leg ( L / R )
Foot ( L / R )
I believe that all permutations from Halo 3 should be available, even though the Mk VI was to the best of our knowledge not yet built at the time (though according to Spartan BLACK, a pre-Reach comic, the Mk VI was somehow constructed before the Battle of Reach, but not widely distributed until a few months later.)
I think that we should be able to first choose our species:
Human (Spartan)
Elite (Sangheili)
After choosing our species, we should be able to select our gender like we can in Halo 3. This will change the death sounds, and judging by the slender Spartan in the REACH banner, possibly could change the sillhouette of our character (but nothing like any of those Volleyball Games).
After this, we should be able to choose armor segments for each of the aforementioned bodyparts. Every armor system will be complete, with unique parts for the entire body (so the H3 permutations would need some additions done by Bungie).
SPARTAN-II
MJOLNIR Mk V (Halo 1)
MJOLNIR Mk IV (Halo Wars)
MJOLNIR Mk VI (Halo 3)
MJOLNIR prototype (pre-Halo)
SPI Mk III Halo: Ghosts of Onyx
ODST (Halo 3)
All armor permutations included in Halo 3
In addition, the Halo 3: ODST permutations should be included:
Mickey
Romeo
Dare
Dutch
All armor permutations included in the Halo REACH banner
ELITE
Councilor (Halo 2) -- the helmet is aesthetic, the hitboxes match a regular Elite
Xytan (Halo: Ghosts of Onyx)
Supreme Commander (Halo Graphic Novel)
Honor Guard (Halo 2)
Arbiter
Zealot (Halo 1)
Special Operations (Super-spiked, Halo 1)
Ranger (Halo2)
Major (Spiked, Halo 1)
Minor (Curved, Halo 2)
Heretic Leader (Halo 2)
Heretic (Halo 2)
In addition, all permutations featured in Halo 3
You should be able to color each segment of armor separately, so you could have (for example) a red chest-plate, whily the rest of your body is black. Some segments would have primary and secondary colors, such as the helmets could have a vertical stripe on them, or your armor could have different-color inlays on your chest.
In addition to coloring each segment of armor, you should be able to add a band to your arm and leg like in Halo 3, and color that separately.
The emblems should appear in locations hybrid between H2 and H3: like in Halo 2, your emblem should appear on your back. Like H3, your emblem should appear on your shoulder.
Before you say anything negative, take a look at this quote from my original hybrid armor idea (before we learned about armor permutations):
Are you suggesting we should be able to take the "Mark 5" should and mix it with "Mark 6" torso, and a SPI armor helmet? That just gets silly, in my opinion.. But I think having all these armor variants would rock. :)
