I was once known as "the guy with all those cool ideas" back when not as many people posted on these forums, when it was easier to notice people before the influx of all these new fans after the announcement of Halo 3. With the announcement of REACH, I will be posting lots more ideas that I hope bungie will take into consideration while designing their next game.

Seeing how great a feature Forge was in Halo 3, we can only assume that it will be included in Halo REACH, most likely in a much-upgraded fashion. Along with editing the maps themselves, I think that it would be great if we could edit some weapons' functions.

Q: But how would we know which weapons are what? Wouldn't it get confusing?
A: What I am proposing is not to edit the weapons in the main sandbox, but we should get some new weapon models created specifially for editing. This way, we see the unique weapon, we know it operates under customized parameters.

My proposed skins should all be based on Forerunner design, similar to the Sentinel beam's appearance, to differentiate them from Human/Covenant weapons on-sight. To ensure that no weapon operates too strangely, there should be certain limitations to each one. There should be a different skin for each different weapon class:

Rifle (i.e. Carbine, Sniper)
Cannon (i.e. Spartan Laser, Rockets)
Support (i.e. Chaingun, Flamethrower)
Melee (i.e. Sword, Gravity Hammer)

If these features are included:
Equipment (i.e. Bubble Shield, Tripmine)
Dual Wieldable Sidearm (i.e. SMG, Magnum)

The way that this could be accomplished has been done by basement modders in Halo 2. All bungie would need to do is include all types of projectiles available in the campaign to be shot from out weapon (this is how bungie made the Scarab gun in Halo 2). The player would choose the projectile characteristics from the UI, creating their own weapons (which could possibly be uploaded into their fileshare and incorporated into other users' maps)

WEAPON STATS
Projectile Damage (How many bodyshots to kill full-health, full shield, opponent)
Shield Damage Modifier (Weaker, None, Stronger)
Health Damage Modifier (Weaker, None, Stronger)
Headshot Bonus (None, +25%, +50%, +75%, +100%, instant-kill)
Scope (None, 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x)
Dual Wield (No, Yes)
Rate of Fire (Rounds per second)
Action: (Pump-Action, Semi-Automatic, Automatic)
Shots (Magazine size, Battery charge/shot)
Ammunition (Magazine, Battery)
Melee (Weak, Average, Strong, Insta-kill)
Melee Range (1 meter, 2 meter, 3 meter, 4 meter, 5 meter, 6 meter, 7 meter)
Stun (None, Yes, Only on Headshots, Only on Shields, Only on Unshielded opponent)
Projectile Appearance (Scroll through all available, such as tracer, plasma rifle, sniper, needler, etc.)

Very interesting concept Cheehwawa, although you know some idiots going to create a dual wieldable sniper that is insta kill and fire 24 rounds per second...
Apart from eight years old screwing around and pissing us off, this is a great idea and I hope Bungie takes a look at this.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

Perhaps a modular MA5 variant where you could add things like scopes, flashlights, lasers, or shotgun attachments too for custom maps.

There could be some limitations (like the only things capable of one hit kills are rifles and cannons, and the cannon cant be full auto)

Limitations on what you can do seems like it would destroy the purpose of the feature.

I'd also like the ability to control weapon range and accuracy. For example, we would be able to choose if the weapon is 100% accurate (like the sniper) or is slightly inaccurate (like the carbine or BR).

This, along with your ideas, would eliminate much of the argument over starting weapons, and what their attributes should be.

And yes, this is an awesome idea Cheehwawa.

Not if there were numerous classes of weapons. Realistically, you wouldn't be able to make a dual wieldable scarab gun and place it as a spawn weapon -- you would crash your Xbox and whoever else was in the game.

I mean out of all the weapons in the Halo universe, that appeared in the novels and games,it would be pointless to add new weapons as they have never been mentioned before.
Example :

harpoon rifle-where has that been mentioned ever in the Halo universe? If it was added it would appear out of nowhere..
Halo wars is a big example, all the new vehicles, what happened to them in canon terms? Did they run out of money to build them? And they were powerful, and poof! They're gone in a few years...that doesn't make sense, they should atleast try to explain the absence of those vehicles.

Now think of the timeline of Halo:Reach, tell me how they're going to explain the absence of those weapons (if they added them) from Halo :combat evolved,Halo 2 and Halo 3.

Slay warriors in the forests, and on hire

Yes very good idea, and maybe they can let us name the weapon in forge too.

This is just for forge sakes, it wont be implemented into campaign or normal multiplayer, forge is for fun and customization.

I suppose for forge.

  • 06.14.2009 1:05 PM PDT

Seriously, does being able to to turn down the gravity and make all weapons instant kill align with "Halo canon?" Of course not, because Multiplayer is completely separate from the story, other then where some of the maps are located.

Increased customization is never a bad thing.

There are limitations in forge and it applies to this for the same reason: you don't want some kid putting 24 killballs flying around the map in mancannons. That wouldnt be fun. And you wouldnt want everyone spawning with flamethrowers, flame grenades and fuel rods guns because youd be placing lots of strain on your Xbox.

I started Starori games in 2011.

No one has the right to take the life of another.

This is a great idea! I would most likely add a 2x scope to the magnum.

Sure, YOU don't want that, but the kid obviously does. As long as it doesn't send the framerate to hell, or make the Xbox freeze/explode, I don't see anything wrong with giving the player more functionality.

Besides not being fun, it would kill framerate. I would want lots of freedom in my idea, moreso than in forge, but there are just some things that would be unacceptable IMO (such as a dual wieldable scarab gun that shoots as fast as the SMG)

Yes, but technical limitations should be the only limitations. The more power we give players in terms of customization, the more they will create. I mean, look at what the people over at Forgehub did before the first map pack with just barrels, crates, and fusion coils. This community is very good at creating amazing things from realtivly little, so I say give them as much power as possible.

I would want lots of freedom in my idea, moreso than in forge, but there are just some things that would be unacceptable IMO (such as a dual wieldable scarab gun that shoots as fast as the SMG) lol, the first thing I thought when I read this was "That would be -blam!- awesome!"

And I mean, just think about what you could do with a scarab gun in multiplayer and forge...
