I agree entirely that a remastered version of Halo 1 would be an exciting game but I think Bungie is working hard on trying to bring something new that lives up to that standard. Specifically, my concern about the first mission of Halo 1 at the end of Reach is that Reach has the potential to be an epic story. The battles that were described in the book were of such monolithic proportion that waking up on the Pillar of Autumn and making your way to the escape pods would seem incredibly anticlimactic. Not that we even know if that is geographically where the story for this new game is going to end (they did say these are the events leading up to Halo 1 but the real story was not on the Pillar of Autumn)... As a separate package, it might be a great idea to set aside some artists and some programmers just to see what they could do visually without completely changing the core of the original game, but they seem to be trying to bring back some of that CE magic with their new stuff (ODST's health system, no dual wielding, open environments, smaller jumps, more grenades, etc...).
