A strong furor of hate is brewing in this forum, mainly because of ODST's price. Before you say "Not another price thread!" I'm here to explain things. Bungie has NO chance of a price reduction. Why? Valve tried and is failing.
What does Valve, the makers of Half-Life, have to do with anything? Valve is one, if not the best, fan-friendly game developing companies out there. Their troubles begin with the Orange Box. Bundled in the Orange Box is Team Fortress 2. On the PC, Valve is able to supply that community with free content like maps and weapon upgrades. Not so on the Xbox 360. Why? Microsoft wants to charge money for all this content that would be free if Valve had their way.
Now if the most fan-friendly company out there can't get any sort of price reduction out os Microsoft, what makes you think Bungie can get a WHOLE game reduced? Microsoft owns the Halo IP which means Halo is now their cash cow. All Bungie can do is make the game, they can't control the pricing of anything. While I understand that Gears of War has gotten price reductions, they aren't as big as a money maker as Halo is. Sure Gears brings in the money, but as of now very little is coming out of Epic games besides the Dark Corners Pack.
This is what Microsoft does with COMMUNITY GAMES, imagine how hard it must be for big time developers to get any type of price change.
Have an open mind please?
