Subject: Reach, Before Halo 1.... Doubt It

Tell it like it is.

Some of my reasons for thinking so.....

1:Just because it says "Falls 2010" doesnt exactly mean its "Fall of Reach"
2:Ive read an article about the ending of halo 3 and bungie/microsoft clearly stated "The inevitable Halo 4"
3: In the Halo Reach banner. The figure on the left looks like the arbiter since he looks the tallest and too mishaped to be a human. The middle one looks mostly like masterchief. And the other three look like marines that were at the ending memorial scene of Halo 3.
4: The ending of halo 3 is a clear give away that something has to happen.Same looking planet as in the Reach trailer, and did you notice that one structure floating in front of the unknown planet in the trailer of Reach. That might of been the MC himself. But IDK who really can tell.
5:I just dont think or get why a prequel would be made after Halo 3's ending. They wouldnt leave Masterchief and Cortana stranded in the middle of space......would they. Or would they forget about them and show how things were like before Halo 1. It just doenst make sense.

Now some of you say that you read the books and claim that you know for sure what its all about.
This is just my opinion so dont flip out if im a little harsh.
But i just hope they know what there doing.

La Conquistador

Just want to point out that the video starts out by saying:

From the Beginning...

You know how it ends...

pretty much means prequel

I haven't read the books but maybe at the end of Halo 3 it IS Reach but not the same Reach. Like maybe Halo: Reach is a prequel just to show what Reach was about and the real prize is after Reach. Sorry if I am wrong but the one at the end of Halo 3 could be Reach after all the Halo Games and now this prequel is just brushing up on history. It seems to fit into place.

The figure on the far left looks like a large spartan to me but the one to the far right with the sniper looks like an ODST.

Why So Serious?

I am pretty sure that this game will be a prequel.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

You are a freakin idiot.

1. It can mean anything, but most smart people are going with common knowledge.
2. proof
3. The figure is not an elite. You can clearly see the 2 slits of metal that stick out above the visor for a spartan helmet. Also, why would an elite be carrying a machine gun?
4. "OH WOW! THE PLANET IS ROUND AND COVERED WITH A SHADOW! THEY MUST BE THE SAME...oh wait! THE STARS (suns) FOR EACH PLANET ARE DIFFERENT COLORED!" also, the floating frigate. You can clearly see both pieces of it. Masterchief is on the back half of the frigate that was ripped off from the portal. Last I remember, the front half crashed on earth.
5. Bungie made an expansion based back between halo 2 and 3. Why shouldnt they be able to show events before the finding of the first halo? Clearly they are being creative, and not continuing on with the same stuff over and over.

check and mate.

ROBOHOG IS VERY BRILLIANT AND STUFF.

So, despite the fact that the game is obviously centrered around the planet Reach, is obviously based on at least part of the Fall of Reach, has the planet being blown to crap in the background just like in the Fall of Reach, has "Falls 2010" as its tagline as an obvious reference to Reach and the Battle of Reach, which happened right before the events of the first Halo game, it's going to have nothing to do with Reach or the Battle of Reach at all?

And besides which, common sense states that Reach will (Oddly enough) be about Reach. Which is famous for being destroyed in a certain battle. I could generally disprove every single point you just made.

Bungie will probably make a game continuing the main storyline at some point otherwise they wouldn't have added the legendary part to the ending. The non-lengendary parts would have been a perfect ending though if they didn't plan on continuing the story. Halo: Reach however is not that game.

It can mean:

Falls (as in drops) to the shelves in 2010.
Falls (as in Reach falls to the Covenant).
Falls (as in the Red Team falls from their Pelican to the surface of Reach)

... or all of them. Reach was glassed .5+ years before the end of Halo 3... the planet from the legendary ending isn't it.

Some of my reasons for thinking so.....

1:Just because it says "Falls 2010" doesnt exactly mean its "Fall of Reach"

You're right, but it does mean it deals with Reach, as Reach is the planet in the teaser. The Battle of Reach occurred before the events of Halo: CE. The only events to take place after CE are the Forerunner excavation/artifact details that are explained in First Strike.

Also, xbox.com, a direct Microsoft-maintained website, confirms that the game is a prequel to the trilogy.

2:Ive read an article about the ending of halo 3 and bungie/microsoft clearly stated "The inevitable Halo 4"
Cite this article, please. I've read many articles that make such claims, yet none of them have credible sources.

You're right. No one can tell. At this point, anything derived from the banner is speculative deduction that has no merit toward factuality over any other speculation. Some think the hulking figure on the left is Sam, and that some events will take place in the game before his death, etc.

5:I just dont think or get why a prequel would be made after Halo 3's ending. They wouldnt leave Masterchief and Cortana stranded in the middle of space......would they. Or would they forget about them and show how things were like before Halo 1. It just doenst make sense.
Frankie stated at Emerald City that they are not done with Master Chief and Cortana's stories. We'll see them again in the future. But that doesn't mean they can't work on a prequel in the process. I am DYING to play through some of the events from (or at least that relate to) The Fall of Reach. And anyway, whether it makes sense to you or not, as I said, xbox.com confirms that it is a prequel.

Now some of you say that you read the books and claim that you know for sure what its all about.
This is just my opinion so dont flip out if im a little harsh.
But i just hope they know what there doing.

Bungie made this franchise what it is today. Fans don't know what they want until they get something, so sit back and patiently wait for more details.

They are spartans!!! Look at the left character. It matches the same armor as that of the rest. Look at the legs and waste. The one on the right does like like it has a different type of helmet but it is due to the lighting effect from behind.
To MLG: Reach was glassed in 2552, what do you mean 5+ years before the ending of Halo 3?

THE Skyhighatrist

http://h3customs.com/home.php

no Arbiter in that banner.

Its Sam (I think, someone who has read the novels confirm this for me) that is on the left, he was considerably larger than most other Spartans.

Looks to me like they're wearing Mark IV armor.,...***Marathon****
-----> More reason for the Security Helmet in Halo 3????

Anyone else remember in Halo:CE, all the comments MC got from Marines "Ohh look, its a Mark V!!!" Since Reach was confirmed to be a prequel, I don't think its so far fetched to assume the Mark IV armor. As for MC being in Halo Reach, who knows, but I sure as hell hope we see him again.

All this speculation is fun and all, but some of the theories out there are just plain ridiculous

Some of my reasons for thinking so.....

1:Just because it says "Falls 2010" doesnt exactly mean its "Fall of Reach"

Wow... really? Reach 'falls' 2010? That's pretty straightforward.
2:Ive read an article about the ending of halo 3 and bungie/microsoft clearly stated "The inevitable Halo 4" That doesn't mean it comes next.
3: In the Halo Reach banner. The figure on the left looks like the arbiter since he looks the tallest and too mishaped to be a human. The middle one looks mostly like masterchief. And the other three look like marines that were at the ending memorial scene of Halo 3.The legs and arms look the same, even if the head is a bit mishapen. Plus he's carrying a minigun. I don't think they'd give the arbiter a minigun in a shot like this.
4: The ending of halo 3 is a clear give away that something has to happen.Same looking planet as in the Reach trailer, and did you notice that one structure floating in front of the unknown planet in the trailer of Reach. That might of been the MC himself. But IDK who really can tell.Doesn't mean it has to be the next game. It could come later.
5:I just dont think or get why a prequel would be made after Halo 3's ending. They wouldnt leave Masterchief and Cortana stranded in the middle of space......would they. Or would they forget about them and show how things were like before Halo 1. It just doenst make sense. They did it for Star Wars, and that worked out pretty well...

This thread is choc-full of fail. Seriously, its so obvious its a prequel it would take a special idiot like you to think its after Halo 3.

  • 06.14.2009 1:30 PM PDT

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

"Halo 4", the continuation of Master Chiefs story ark and Halo: Reach are two completely different games. "Halo 4" is being made by a Microsoft team while Reach is being made by Bungie. Reach is a prequel to Halo: CE. "Halo 4" is not the game being made by Peter Jackson. So, have I spelled it out clear enough?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Posted by: MeanGene325
Some of my reasons for thinking so.....
1:Just because it says "Falls 2010" doesnt exactly mean its "Fall of Reach"

Right. Because a game that is titled Reach and whose trailer ends with "Falls 2010" couldn't possibly reference the biggest battle in the Halo universe.
Halo 2 Quote: "The fleet that attacked Reach was 50 times this size!" -Lord Hood

2:Ive read an article about the ending of halo 3 and bungie/microsoft clearly stated "The inevitable Halo 4"
Link. Or there is no proof. And who says they aren't making that now?

3: In the Halo Reach banner. The figure on the left looks like the arbiter since he looks the tallest and too mishaped to be a human. The middle one looks mostly like masterchief.
It's a 2-d black cutout. There is stuff behind that character too. And Master Chief WAS AT REACH.
And the other three look like marines that were at the ending memorial scene of Halo 3.
Again, black cutouts.
4: The ending of halo 3 is a clear give away that something has to happen.Same looking planet as in the Reach trailer, and did you notice that one structure floating in front of the unknown planet in the trailer of Reach. That might of been the MC himself. But IDK who really can tell.
No. It isn't the same planet.
Legendary planet This is the planet at the end of Halo 3. Notice the blue sun, the blue atmosphere, and the blue nebula.
[url=http://www.blackwaterops.net/images/reach.jpg]This planet is much more red, and the sun is yellow-orange. There is also no nebula.
The structure floating in the trailer? That is a damaged frigate there is a hole blown in the side. In the Halo 3 ending, they had maybe half of a frigate.

5:I just dont think or get why a prequel would be made after Halo 3's ending. They wouldnt leave Masterchief and Cortana stranded in the middle of space......would they. Or would they forget about them and show how things were like before Halo 1. It just doenst make sense.
Because the story actually starts with Reach. That is where the story arc begins, Halo 3 is where it ends.
