ya know, im proud to be an inverted player, its like we're a rare breed or something

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

OR They could always just ship a version of the game with only the ODST disc and not the one with the H3 Multilayer.

GT = I Am The Anchor

Think of it this way -

The second disc which contains the full Halo 3 multiplayer experience is actually free. It was added so people who have been waiting patiently for the maps to become free can get them, or people who have never played Halo 3 multiplayer or want to play it again but don't have their original copy can.

Really, the disc was made so after the release of ODST, more people would be playing Halo 3 multiplayer. Not in a selfish attempt to gain numbers, but so more people have the experience.

Also, note that Halo 3: ODST contains enough content to be a full game. There are games out there with campaigns that don't come close to being as engaging as ODST's will, and they don't even have online multiplayer (firefight).

Yes, Bungie probably wanted a $40 or $50 price range, which is nice of them, but for someone like me, who only spends money on a couple select games a year that are actually worth the money, $60 isn't much to shell out for a game that I'll probably replay countless times.

3% Of my kills are from the PhatWanker ;)

See, you are complaining to Microsoft, because Bungie is not in control.
The people who aren't going to buy Halo 3: ODST because of $20 price increase is few. That is half of what the game was going to be.
Microsoft is a billion dollar company, they don't really care about those people who are afraid of prices.
They won't lose any money either, the amount of people who are still going to buy the game, out number those who are going to wait, I'm going to guess at least 5:1. With the price increase, of $20 Microsoft at a 5:1 ratio will still be making more money then if those people bought it at a $40 price.

Microsoft in a nutshell: Money >>>> Customer Approval and Satisfaction.

Actually, yes they did. MSoft owns Halo, and Bungie was originally bought out by MSoft shortly after they revealed the original X-Box.

Your still going to buy the game if your a fanboy, you know you will so just don't lie to yourself saying you won't. I don't remember any game thats offering an amazing campiegn, a great multiplayer, and something such as firefight being under $60.

  • 06.14.2009 8:06 AM PDT

paying extra for content you DON'T own. there was two discussed original prices, $40 and $50. i'll write out pricing for $40 first.

$40
+$10 for mythic maps 2
+$10 for firefight
= $60

$50
+$10 for mythic maps 2
+$0 for firefight
= $60 for one kick ass game.

You do know those the discussed original pricings of the game included firefight and mythic maps, right?

+$15 for Campaign
+$15-$20 for Firefight(Pending how many maps get shipped with firefight)
+$10 Mythic Map Pack 2

$40-$45 dollar pricce tag would have been fine with me(Without the 2nd disk, which is unneccessary) .

This. This would remove 20$ from the price tag. Then you would simply download MMP2 on the marketplace.

=50$ Which is what I would go for.

That's not the point. Bungie worked on the game for a year. The average Bungie game takes 2-3 years. It SHOULD be worth less then a typical Bungie game.

The only reason they finished it so fast, is because they didn't have to recreate their game engine. By using the same engine, it allowed them to work a lot faster.

This world can be ugly, but isn't it beautiful?

Microsoft controls the pricing.

  • 06.14.2009 9:17 AM PDT

I'm well aware that Microsoft control the pricing, this threads title was in response to a previous thread which read something along the lines of 'Bungie can't lower the price'.

While I possibly wont be able to resist the hype and urge to buy ODST on release day at $60 as suggested earlier. Theres no way I'll be buying two copies for system link as I had planned on. If you're bored enough and like to read, I'll try and explain why I think ODST isnt really worth $60. Only my opinion of course.

I already own three copies of Halo 3. As I see it, I have already purchased the right to play Halo 3's Multiplayer. Halo 3's Forge and Halo 3's Theatre. I've also bought and downloaded all of the DLC maps released to date so I believe I already have the right to play them too. I dont feel I should have to pay for it all again.

Not only that, but all of those features were developed and budgeted for through the Halo 3 development process. These features were paid for when we went out in our millions and bought Halo 3. Not only have we thanked Bungie for these features but we've paid for them too.

Likewise, the Halo: Reach Beta was budgeted and developed through the Halo: Reach development process.

Even Firefight was leaked in a early Halo 3 feature list. So we dont know how much the ODST development team actually worked on that. It does look awesome though.

The Campaign looks awesome. Potentially short. But we'll all play it more than once and we'll scour that map as best we can anyway. Then we'll play through on co-op. Then on Legendary.

The new maps are fine. I'd prefer they were an optional extra but it does add an extra $10 value to the product for those of us who will use them.

For those few people without Halo 3, they are definitely getting a good deal. But most of us arent included in this group, the more loyal fans are paying $60 for the Campaign, firefight and three new maps. Which in my book, only looks good when compared to some of the lower-than- average titles available.

Its not the Bundle of awesomeness we have come to expect from a Bungie title.

For me, $50 would be fine. $60 is a bit higher than what I'd consider a fair price for what the ODST team is selling us. I dont feel ODST's unique features justify the price tag.

I'm sorry if I'm upsetting some of you with my opinions. But if enough people agree and raise their concerns. Then Microsoft may lower the price (unlikely, I know) and ultimately we'll all pay less. So what do we have to lose?

  • 06.15.2009 1:55 AM PDT

wtf

Price will lower a few months after release. Microsoft will not lower the price until then.

Couldn't agree more; I do the same, only spend on a couple of games a year I feel are worth it. Besides, complaining and whinning won't get it to change, if you're like me, you've learned to deal with it and think positive about it. If you see it as crap....you see it as crap, but crap happens and you just got to deal with it.

The reason the maps are in the game is so people without live can get them
