I don't understand why people are stretching Reach father than anything it was planned to be. Nobody knows for certain what its about but seriously, its in the name! Halo: Reach Is about the fall of planet Reach hinted from all the explosions in the reveal trailer. This adventure takes place before Halo: Combat Evolved to the original book name Halo: Fall of Reach (how do people think its time travel or other random stuff when its in the name of the book??) I haven't read the book but I am going to soon. And also there supposed to be at many different Spartans in this because if you listen to the reveal trailer a Spartan (Spartan 259) says that they have Spartans on the ground so that means this is BEFORE John(Master Chief) saved the world. Why can't a game company make a prequel? It's not that hard.

That pretty much explains 90% of the theories we see thrown around in these forums. It is rare to find anyone who actually comes up with a valid and well thought out idea/theory. Instead they piece together the remotest vaguely similar things and try to sound smart by saying things like "I think" and "we all know" .

I think (forgive the pun) that HR is a prequel. There are enough references to the book "Fall of Reach" in the trailer to indicate that. Slip space ruptures that are mentioned are merely Covenant ships jumping in system.

We hear that they detected in system slipspace rupture and then a short time later the planet begins to be glassed. One might think the ones doing the glassing just jumped in eh? The Covenant can actually jump in system quite easily. It is one of the major problem when they show up they tend to attack quickly and catch the defeneders either off guard or invoke enough fear that panic ensues and basically the Covenant strike first.

Instead we hear all these theories about how the MC time travelled back to Reach at this time to help in the fight. Too bad he was already there in orbit at the time. Hey maybe we can have a theory about how the MC teams up with himself.

LOL I agree the rumours and bizzare theories are nothing more than laughable.

I know but what i haven't done was post my theory here yet. I was going to do it in the morning but now that I am awake, I will post it as a reply here:

Ok #1 you just beat Halo 3 on Legendary
#2 the ending tell you that Halo 4 WILL be in the making
#3 Halo Reach is NOT Halo 4
#4 Halo Reach is a prequel to the halo series talking about the Fall of Reach
OK, before I go any farther I just want to say I did not read the books so this may be inaccurate.
#5 planet Reach is at the end of Halo 3 but NOT THE SAME REACH as this one
#6 Halo: Reach is just there to tell you what happened then and how it fell
#7 The Reach at the end of Halo 3 may be Reach after it fell and John(Spartan 117) just landing on the aftermath of whatever happens in Halo Reach the game.

The chances of the legendary ending planet being Reach are incredibly slim. For a start, its a different coloured star. Reach was fairly close to earth, MC is on the other side of the galaxy. Reach was glassed, there is nothing to rebuild.

Well here we go a (medum sized) report of the Battle of Reach. Please note that it also includes the Skirmish of Reach when John comes back. Also, it is possible that they show some other stuff in flashbacks or whatever about before Reach.
Here we go:

At the Remote Scanning Outpost Fermion a guy sees a irregularity in some objects traveling through Slipspace. He tries to match them up to any known Covenant ships but finds no match. Then he notices that if all the diagrams are put together, it makes the same shape as the Slipspace irregularity. He alerts Reach, and destroys all data in the facility killing himself in the process (i think). Then the Covenant drop out of Slipspace.
The UNSC had a bunch of Super-MACs that owned the -blam!- out of (some) of the Covenant fleet. So they sent down dropships (containing thousands of infantry, tanks, banshees, etc.) to destroy the generators powering the MACs. All the SPARTANs (except for John, Linda and James) are sent groundside to protect the generators alongside a bunch of marines. The SPARTANs ship (pelican/bird) is shot down while inside Reach's atmosphere. The SPARTANs all survive except for a few.
John, Linda and James (I'm pretty sure) go to Gamma Station where a ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) prowler (a form of ship) is docked.
It has Nav (navigation) data that can lead the Covenant to the Sol system (our solar system). The three SPARTANs successfully destroy the data but James is lost (in space, his booster pack malfunctioned) and Linda is critically wounded. John helps Linda onto a Pelican (with Sergeant Johnson and some other marines) and flies to The Pillar of Autumn.
In the end the generators are destroyed and the Covenant comes in and glasses (they shoot super heated plasma at the planet, heating it to such a degree that it first burns, then gets "glassed") the planet except for a specific area on the planet.
A few remaining SPARTANs flee to the part where the Covenant didn't glass. CASTLE base, a ONI outpost, was under a mountain (inside the ground) was the only area spared by the Covenant. The five remaining SPARTANs (not including John and Linda) go there and meet Dr. Halsey. (the creator of the SPARTAN-II program). She reveals that she is the last human down here, and that she is going to set off a huge pile of explosives under the base when the Covenant tried to get in.
Before blowing it up, she fixes up the SPARTANs (clones some extra lungs, patches up their cuts, etc.) and gives them some new weapons and armor upgrades. Then they go bellow the base into some mining tunnels. They detonate the explosives, and escape.
After five days, Fred (I think) found a secret entrance into a Forerunner artifact. They found a crystal, but when picked up, it emitted (harmless) radioactivity that alerted the Covenant to their location. They stay low for a while, while the Covenant tries to kill them and steal the crystal.
At this time. John comes back into the system, after the events of Halo: CE, with a captured Covenant vessel (Ascendant Justice, with several marines including Johnson) and comes to the rescue, they all escape on the Ascendant Justice with the crystal.

Basically it could be anything in here, or something else as well... I dunno, we'll find out after ODST is released I guess...

I don't understand why people are stretching Reach father than anything it was planned to be.

I guess it shows how much people want Bungie to make a sequel to Halo 3. They want to believe Halo Reach is that sequel.

The planet will be glassed at the end of Reach because we already know what is gonna happen. But Master Chief is gonna crash land on the glassed planet after Halo 3. WAY after Reach fell.

I totally agree, they just want to stir up controversy about the game. It's gonna be an awesome game no questions asked.

To play or not to play....

Actually not all of Reach was glassed and the biosphere was left intact. The Covenant and humans found a Forerunner installation underneath Reach. There was no way the Covenant were going to glass that. A few spartans and Dr Halsey ultimately found a crystal inside this Forerunner base. The Covenant then persued them to retrieve the "Holy Relic".

So Reach has part of its surface that wasn't glassed and a breathable atmosphere. Incidently the Base where the MC was trained in witht he other Spartans is also in the non-glassed area.

I think if the planet at the end of Halo 3 is indeed Reach then the Master Chief and Cortana are returning long after reach has been destroyed. The Covenant are now defeated and finally the Master Chief can go home. For that matter Cortana can go home as well.

Their "home" may be in ruins but it ultimately could be rebuilt and Reach could once again be resettled. A large part of the planet was glassed but perhaps a bit or terraforming could be all that is really needed to make Reach "nice" again..

I quite like the idea of the MC and Cortana going home :) . That also eludes to Reach as the MC anc Cortana remember what happened to their home. HR may be a dedication to that memory.

I am suprised noone has thought about that simple possibility. Maybe the Master Chief and Cortana are simply going home. Possibly it is Reach. Reach is relatively close to Earth and could be where the last half of the Frigate the MC was on exited slipspace. There was a Forerunner installation on Reach so the Forerunner slipspace network may have had Reach as the closest exit point to Earth at the time the Frigate was cut in two. It is possible :)

See! It seems very possible and also another question... what would happen if he landed on a glassed portion of the planet?

first off just because it has reach in the title doesn't mean it is based off of the book, Reach was the name of a planet. Also its not fair for you to just tell every one they can't have fun with predicting things about the game, it helps people wait for the game. Also its confirmed to be a prequel
