I didn't mean it like that just that John(Master Chief) doesn't say he is a spartan 2 he just says 117 he is a Spartan II ID number 117.

But by your logic they would have to call him spartan 2117, which they don't
Think about what you just said.

There were multiple SPARTAN Projects.

The first was SPARTAN I. We know virtually nothing about them. The second is SPARTAN II. That is just their classification of SPARTAN. This is unrelated to their Designation Number.

Its because Master Chief only called himself 117 he didn't say what class he was though, it was his decision

I'm glad this thread is here. Now I can use it as a refuge from the idiocy that's consuming these forums...

Haha ya your welcome. =D it is the simplest theory which has evidence to back it up all those time travel junkies are NOT welcome here hahaha

Time travel junkies? Fill me in. IDK what they are, my guess is that they like to go back in time and say this and that did not happen?.

Haha time travel junkies are the people that think Master Chief went back in time when the portal collapsed in Halo 3. All they want is a Halo 4 but they are just impatient because Halo 4 is going to be AFTER Reach

*sigh*

Read the novels.

SPARTAN I, II, & III are the Project Names and Classification of Spartan type. The Designation Numbers are unrelated.

What will happen if he crashes into the glass portion of the planet thought?

The ship cold melt (along with him and Cortana) if it's still hot enough. Or he'll just suffocate considering the planet lacks an atmosphere.

Two words OP: Mass Lobotomies.

That is also a good point but remember that there is still a biosphere intact and the forrunner settlement underneath the planet. Also if the planet was "glassed" (I'm still unsure if it literally meant turned to glass) it would be cooled off by then with the lack of atmosphere the planet's surface would be cold. (except the biosphere of course)

By biosphere I assume you mean that tiny strip of land that they hadn't yet glassed. I would assume that after they finished there and the Spartans evaced with the artifact they glassed the remaining portion of the planet.

Glassing involves literally turning the surface of the planet into glass. Considering the temperatures involved nothing survives on the surface and the atmosphere itself is boiled away. The planet would become a dead lifeless corpse when a glassing is completed.

I don't think time travel is as stupid as a lot of people are saying. In the book First Strike I remember it talking about time travel using the crystal they found and slipstream space. I also remember theories way back in the Halo CE days when guilty spark said he thinks he has seen Master cheif before. Which could have meant he traveled back in time at some point.

Time Travel (which has never been seen in Haloverse) =/= Time Dilation (which is a property of the Forerunner Crystal)

  • 06.14.2009 5:26 PM PDT

Well there would be no reason to glass that portion because they wanted the crystal they would just chase after the Spartans.(sorry if I'm wrong) But also the forerunners made an underground settlement which lasted and if you think Master Chief would die then why didn't he when the whole back of the frigate was exposed to dead space?

He has a limited Oxygen supply, he can survive for a short time in a hard vacuum (or on a glassed world I suppose) but he would die after a short time on Reach as he would have on the Frigate had he not gone into Cryo.

Well they'd probably glass the remaining portion just because it was a Human world and they like to destroy every human world. So considering there's nothing left for them on Reach why wouldn't they destroy it?

It's not like every Spartan is identical Maybe Bruce says his Spartan class because he only has 2 numbers in his ID and John didn't. I'm sorry that I don't know every word of the Halo books. I don't even have one but I am probably gonna buy them soon.

it would be against regulations for them to come up with their own way of saying their numbers, its as simple as this, spartan 259 and spartan 059 are two different people

OK well the planet is covered with glass. Glass breaks. He could break through the surface of Reach and reach the forerunner settlement. where he can breathe.

OK, well then if 059 is Bruce then who is 259?

Your not talking about a pane of glass. The planet's surface was turned into glass it's rather thick probably as thick as the planets crust. And at any rate any oxygen contained within the planet would be released into space if anything were to drill down to it there wouldn't be enough to breathe. And the Forerunner cavern was probably glassed along with the rest of the planet.

Well it was stated that the forerunner settlement was left alone so that the crystal was attained and then the covenant left without touching it and also just imaging how a meteor made of rock that is as big as that frigate cut go through ground like paper but this is glass even weaker than ground.

No it wasn't. In fact I bet it was destroyed since not every Covenant ship followed Cortana into Slipspace. Since standard operating procedure would call for the rest of the planet to be destroyed (we know they will destroy Forerunner structures and they had no problem with using their primary weapons on the structure anyway its likely that some of the remaining ships destroyed the ruins).

Half a frigate, and depending on the angle and speed it might not penetrate very deeply. You also have to take into account the small amount of ruins compared to the size of the planet and as I said, even if those ruins weren't destroyed and were located under the planets surface and the Chief managed to get to them the Oxygen would escape into space since the planet has no way of containing it.

Just as long as I can bash some Sangheili skulls in this prequel, then I'll be in good spirits.

In my opinion, the Jiralhanae in both Halo 2 & 3 were far too predictable, especially when one of them goes "Berserking".

  • 06.14.2009 6:26 PM PDT

Very true. I'm not very sure how Master Chief is going to survive unless he stays in Cryo state and waits or maybe... there could be some sort of rebuild by the Spartans that just were forgotten and lost. nobody knows...
