I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.

~ Leonardo da Vinci

If I did not know it was a prequel..This is what I would think.

What we know as the end is, well of course Halo 3...So From the beggining, we know the end, aka meaning What we know as the end, is really only the beggining. (sp)

The Cheif time travels...

Curse you and Cheif? Is he like Master chef hitting people with his high powered assault spatula?

Did anyone see that in the beginning of the teaser?
"From the Beginning, You Know the End."

What do you think it means?

I don't know why people keep mentioning the book. You don't have to have read the book. Reach fell to the Covenant shortly before the events of Halo: CE. If you're at all familiar with the backstory of that game, you know the Pillar of Autumn only ended up where it was because it was fleeing from the Covenant after they annihilated Reach.

actually cortana was interested where the coordinate on the museum rock MC recovered lead to and why the covenant were so interested in it. so cortanas curiosity was the reason they eneded up at halo but they were fleeing the covenant so you were half right .

^ares23 is right, Cortana wanted to know why the Covenant were so interested in the Glyphs on the forunner stone. She found out they were coordinates and made a Slipspace jump and landed at Halo.

I will be there to answer your questions! No matter how obvious or stupid they may be, don't be afraid to ask. It'll pay off in the long haul.

please stop with the books I read the first one honestly i was so bored with

bungie has nothing to do with the books its not gonna be based off the books
obviously itll be about the war on reach it wont be boring for the readers it means we know how the story ends already

The books are canon. I'm glad Bungie is using this fantastic story that someone else has written for them. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel. Sorry "Bro" that you don't get to play as the Chief. The books did need Bungies approval. So the books do actually have something to do with Bungie. Cupping your hands over your ears and saying "Lalala I can't hear you" doesn't make the books invalid. The story amazing so just take some Ibuprofen and enjoy its depth. Or go back to Halo 2 and shoot all the guys who don't look like you. Whatever stops your head from hurting.

Now that I have vented,

From the Beginning, You Know the End. Halo: CE the introduction makes mention of the Covenant tracking the Pillar of Autumn from Reach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj3MsszewFs between 0:55 and 1:01. So with a little thinking a player could conclude that something happened at Reach that would warrant running away from it. Being attacked makes sense because it is a war. This can be concluded without playing H2, H3, or reading any books. So from the beginning we have known the end. The beginning being our introduction to the Halo universe with Halo: CE, and the end being the battle of Reach.

I really can't think of another way to fit this with still regarding the books as lore to the universe. If we disregard them then from the beginning there is only the Chief. Why would there be only one? Well the others must have died. So we know the end of Reach through what we infer from the intro to Combat Evolved.

Sorry for any mistakes. What do you think of the idea?

There have already been a few of these theories in this thread I hope this better articulates what those people are saying.

I'm not "half right". What I said was completely accurate. Cortana made the jump because they needed to escape the Covenant in a manner that wouldn't lead them towards Earth. So what if she picked a destination that interested her? I never said their Slipspace jump was randomly selected.

Nobody here can understand this can they? It is a riddle. Riddles are here to point something out. The team at Bungie are not idiots, they wanted to make it seem easy to figure out, then have a hidden meaning be the real answer. "From the beginning, you know the end". I think this is the start of a new series of letters like the cortana letters. Or not. Now lets think riddle like. Riddles you have to split in 2 parts, luckily Bungie did that for us. "From the beginning" and "you know the end". "From the beginning" can mean a lot, but riddles use metaphors a lot. A metaphor for beginning can be several things. So can the end. So can we think riddle like and solve what this will really be? Lets solve the mysteries of Halo:REACH (which might also be a clue it's like HINT::: Reach is in all caps for a reason you fools!)

It means it's a prequel to a series that we know the main end of?

Duh?

  • 07.09.2009 10:49 AM PDT

Well seeing as its a prequel and the main story is over we know the Reach will fall but that Humanity eventually wins the war. At least that was the impression it left on me.

@HellzWolf: Actually Bungie provides the backstory. They have a "Halo Bible" from which all the information in the books originates from.
