I recently started reading the The Flood, and I noticed something. In that novel, the ODSTs from the Pillar of Autumn drop towards Halo's surface. It is stated that the ride down is so shaky and hot, that no one can even focus. But in the ODST gameplay (where the Rookie is falling towards the ruins of New Mombassa), the pod seems perfectly stable. Anyone else noticed this? My theory is that the HEV Pods may have been upgraded between H1 and H2. Please share with me your theory's. Please no flaming.

The atmosphere itself can easily affect the Drop Pod's descent.
Gravity too.

People keep telling me to get a life... I am getting an education, I have a lovely girlfriend and alot of friends... I thought this was having a life? Gues I was wrong...

It is highly possible the pods fired in ODSt were calibrated to earths athmosphere(Or how you spell it), making the decend more stable, while on the first Halo, they had no idea what they were dropping into, the envioment is very different on the Halo rings then that on earth... That is my theori anyway.

I agree

I also agree. This is probably the most logical explaination.Good job in thinking that up. The differences in atmosphere would have a drastic affect on the desent of the pods.

When he's high in the atmosphere, there is less friction, so it will be much more stable.

We haven't actually seen him drop from close to the surface. We only saw him fall a few seconds away from the cruisers, which is in space, where there is no air, so no friction.

This world can be ugly, but isn't it beautiful?

In The Flood, the ODSTs were dropping from space. In H3: ODST, the ODSTs are dropping from in the atmosphere. This would most likely affect the drop, as well as the atmosphere difference mentioned by above people.

I agree with this too, halo probably has a less dense atmosphere

Self-proclaimed genius.
Roam the streets with a sign, "will love for false hope."

Personally, I don't think the Flood is a good example of what happened on Alpha Halo.

And what's more epic? A claustrophobic and turbulent box with no window, or a very smooth and breathtaking view of entering the Earth's atmosphere?

I think you guys have it upside down. In the flood, they describe the whole drop, which would mean there they're closer to the surface, which means there is more air, which means more friction. Which would cause the unstable condition.

In Halo 3: ODST, we only see him when he's really high in the atmosphere, where there is less friction, and will make the pods much more stable.

In ODST the pod was droping out of the sky. In the Flood, the drop pod was droping out of space. So theres a BIG diference there.

But objects burn up on entry, thus explaining part of the rough ride on Alpha Halo.

I agree with your theory. More likely than not, the forces stationed near Earth had access to more recently improved variations of weaponry, vehicles, and equipment. After all, you can see the difference for yourself in Halo 2 from the inside of the pod and the outside when the Chief used the ones in the In Amber Clad
