Subject: Bungie/Microsoft Milking Series

I really wish that Bungie would leave Halo where it is and start something new. I mean, it's great and all, but sooner or later they have to end it when they run out of all possible ideas. Hopefully sooner. I remember them saying somewhere that Halo 3 would be the end; but now 2 more titles are coming out. Do you know what would be great? Another Marathon...

they've made three marathon games, they've already milked the hell out of a franchise they said they were done with.

oh wait....

Halo is not milked in any way. They said they were done with the Halo trilogy. I see no Numbers in these new titles.

  • 06.15.2009 9:19 AM PDT

Why all the milking in this forum?

And I don't think its being milked. I always wanted to play the battle of Reach, and ODST is just gonna be a good game.

  • 06.15.2009 9:21 AM PDT

Who cares any game title that is halo related is amazing.

  • 06.15.2009 9:28 AM PDT

It has nothing to do with numbers. These new ODST and Reach games are still part of the same universe and all great ideas go bad after a while. Yeah they made 3 Marathon based games but now this will be the fifth Halo based game. Besides the story of Reach has already been told in book form. No surprises there.

  • 06.15.2009 9:28 AM PDT

I don't see how actually playing Reach could go bad. New weapons, new maps, better graphics and some tweaks to multiplayer. What could go wrong?

who said it has ANYTHING to do with the book?

Everyone immediately has made assumptions that the game will go by the book to the letter. what if the only similarity to the book is that some part of it takes place on reach?

What if it is the story of a few Spartans we've never heard of who simply lost contact with Fred and were presumed lost, and it was their fight to survive?

  • 06.15.2009 9:38 AM PDT

Just shut up. Halo rocks and we want more! Stop complaining for god sake. Be grateful.

$.50 in store credit.

The games still play great, and they keep adding new stuff to them. Why stop? Fire Fight is entirely new, and ODST's campaign will probably play alot different than the others. That's not milking. Reach may not even be an FPS.

It's funny, hardly anyone complains about companies making multiple games of GT, Metal Gear Solid, Metroid, Zelda, or even Elder Scrolls. However, when it comes to Halo it must be getting milked because it's MS and they're big scary money munching monsters.

I trust Bungie enough to know that they won't let MS milk it through them. As long as the games are still awesome they can make as many Halo games as they want.

Yeah!

This may be a little far fetched but...so you're saying that in the future if Bungie is working on a Halo 15 you'd be okay with it. Even if all of the Halos before it are solid games you wouldn't get bored by the fact that it's just another story to a big picture thats already been painted long before? With the same theme and feel to it?

That's kind of WHY they're milking it. I agree with the OP.

Bungie releases a big Halo game every three years. CE in 2001, H2 in 2004, H3 in 2007 and now Reach in 2010. Bungie is not milking it at all. Microsoft has released just one other game in Halo Wars. Thats 4 games and 1 expansion (ODST) in 9 years. That's not milking it at all. CoD on the other hand...

Monkey see, Monkey shoot.

Terry Pratchet - The Best.

As said, compared to most other game companies? not milking it.

And anyway, it is a good plot-line that hasn't been spoiled.

Admittedly the only bad bit is Halo Wars. Good game but....shouldn't have been made. Only set in that time so it couldn't mess with the cannon.

Halo is a great series of games but being a major gamer it is way overused 3 is enough plus HALO WARS, now ODST and REACH. I'm done with the games besides match making in halo3 its starts to get really boring. Call of duty is starting to get more popular!!!!!

  • 06.15.2009 10:34 AM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

To those saying Bungie and Microsoft is making too many games and milking the franchise, I have compiled a list of franchises with equal to, or far more games and getting milked than Halo; Mario, Final Fantasy, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, all those lame yearly sports titles, Metroid, Legend Of Zelda, Pokemon, Tomb Raider, and of course Call Of Duty. Those are just a few, so don't complain about milking in an industry which is practically built on milking. That goes for Dairy, too.

Infinitry Ward may not be but Activision is. The original came out in 2003, COD2 came in 2005, COD3 in 2006, MW in 2007, WaW in 2008 and now MW2 in 2009. They already have Treyarch working on a new title also. That's 6 titles in only 7 years with another title on the way. This also doesn't include games like CoD2 Big Red One. However, this is a Reach forum and not a Cod forum so I will try to remain on topic.

I'm a dude playing a dude desguised as another dude. I hate heritics, non-logical thoughts and people who are better than I am. People tell me that they like a lot of games, but I hate them all. Whenever I play a video game, I always go crawling back to Halo 3. Never go full retard!

Not really milking if you have multiple developers working on it. In that sense, there is a new COD game being made every two years.

  • 06.15.2009 11:06 AM PDT

they said halo 3 would be the end, but i think that they meant the end of the war, which it was. now they're cranking out ODST and Reach to get as much money as they possibly can. personally, i think as long as they don't run it into the ground, more power to them.

It's Halo, It's one of the best franchises the gamers have ever seen.
I can't agree with you OP, juts because they are making Halo: Reach, doesn't mean it will be their last Halo game because they haven't discussed if they are leaving Halo yet.
I won't hold my breath on their third secret project.
If you guys think Halo is boring, then why the hell are you here?
