All the "Halo 3: ODST costs $60 because..." theories are forgetting about three important things. First, labor. I know that could be part of the reason why the campaign would cost $30, etc., but still. The developer needs to pay the people that work for it. Second, profit. The publisher wants to make money. The developer wants to make money. The retailer wants to make money. Third, the cost of the disk, case, and manual. Think about how expensive ink is. All the manuals that are printed, the cover on the game case. The company that makes that needs to be able to pay for the ink, plastic, and disks. Also the labor for the people that run those machines. Most people don't think about all the money that goes into games. If I am dead wrong, please tell me.

Thanks,
Pooka

What's he building in there?

Gow 2 campaign chapter + Eight new maps and six older ones = $20
Halo 3 campaign addition + 3 new maps+ Disk with all previous Halo 3 multiplayer content which is something Bungie didn't allow you to play matchmaking without, which means we already have all previous Halo 3 multiplayer content = $60
Run-on sentence = Priceless

You also forget people like me who DONT have Halo 3. 60 Dollars is an Epic win price for all the content I'll be getting. And cmon, how many people bought Crackdown just for the beta??

Reach beta code + 3 new exclusive maps + firefight + an entire multiplayer expierence (new if you dont own halo 3) + a whole entirely new campaign with unique gameplay = Quite a good deal for 60 dollars.

Though one point I agree with people on is that the Limited Edition should come with stickers and maybe a exclusive firefight character (Elite?)

Wow. Just, wow. Now it doesn't seem so hard to make money in this industry. Go Microsoft.

Yep. People don't realize simply the cost of resources that go into this.

Why does Bungie put us through such avid anticipation?

Actually companies like microsoft and bungie can get disks and make manuals for virtually nothing.

It is not a halo 3 campaign addition. It is 6 hours (or more) of gameplay. The Gears chapter will last maybe an hour or two

That's not where a vast majority of their money goes. I'd say more money goes to the countless of employees that work for years coding, debugging, and other such things as well as the technology and other resources needed for the employees to be able to do what they do.

That's the problem. There is less labor involved in this game. It was 10-20% of Bungie's work force (if I remember correctly), and it only took a year. There going to make a -blam!- load of profit for sure, there saving money on employees, equipment (they didn't have to remodel anything, mostly create environments). They would have plenty of profit at 40$. And the disks are very cheap compared to the money there going to make.

Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imagination of our selves.

what your doing here, is just making it sound way better than it actually is. you can do it for the gears expansion pack as well:
"6 exclusive new maps, all previous downladable map packs, brand new campaign chapter, that lets you experience the story like never before!".
see?

But its all true isnt it? And if you dont like the game your getting and content, why are you even interested in it? Besides it isnt just a campaign chapter, nor have I played GoW2 expansions so I cant really say if I agree about that particular point.

But at the very least for ME, 60 dollars is a extremely welcome price.

Oh and yes, stickers are my weakspot lol. Its the same part of my brain that likes pokemon still...

What people dont get is that, Campaign = 30 ish dollars, Multiplayer = 25 ish. + allll the other gooodies I mentioned.

I mean if it was 30-40 dollars for this game, that d be ridiculous because it comes with the ENITRE Halo3 experience. Which just because its older now, doesn't mean it should be free.

Now I know most people on here already have that, and I do sympathize with them. Bungie probably didnt want to make 3 versions though: One for the Halo 3 Owners, One for the Newbs without Halo 3 (like me) and a Limited Edition.

That would just cause a buttload of confusion for a lotta people. Like it or Hate it, 60 dollars is a fair price for the content imo.
