Oh, I almost forgot.
I'm an inside member of the biggest italian videogames forum community (Forumeye.it), and I've some friends that followed E3-09 directly, and talked with some MS employers in the show, asking about Reach to everyone. They can't say a lot cause it's still everything top secret for now, but that's what they told to me:

-It's an FPS, and not a MMO or similar (and ok)
-It's more Multiplayer/Online oriented then previous Halo, and the SP Campaign will be something "different" to what we've seen so far with the previous games.
-The game is under development since after Halo 3, and for more time then ODST (that is developed by a small part of the team, and it was done in 1 year and an half)
-New graphic engine!
-The multiplayer will be different/new.
-It's the "next big Halo" for Bungie and Microsoft, same importance as an Halo 4
-It's everything "darker" and more serious.
-150 people are working on the Project since 2007

You can trust me or not, you can take those info like rumors or not, but I know my sources and I trust them completely, and Halo: Reach really seems to be huge like we supposed!

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Another similarity I would like to see is the "Mjolnir MkV" style physics. Run faster, jump higher, maybe a bit more slippery.

I would also like to see the return of the MA5B Assault Rifle. The MA5C just isnt the same. A few other returns I would like to see are Plasma weapons being worthwhile, smaller scale player models (I was playing Halo CE recently and noticed they were smaller compared to the maps). And DEVFINITELY Sangheili returning as the enemy.

A few features I think should be kept from Halo 2/3 are Sangheili multiplayer models, different armor permutations, Forge, saved films and screenshots, Covenant side to the Campaign. Along some weapons and vehicles that werent in CE, like the Beam Rifle, Energy Sword, SMG, Spectre, and Mongoose.

Some new features I would like to see are downloadable armor perms, counter-op (like Perfect Dark), and expantions on unlockables like Skulls and Armor, perhaps includng hidden Black Boxes (like Halo Wars) that unlock some kind of plot-based secret.

Oh yeah, and just a few miscellaneous maps I want to see come back (not saying I don't want new ones, but these are personal favorites.)

Halo CE:
Blood Gulch
Sidewinder
Boarding Action

Halo 2:
Headlong
Turf
Ascention

Halo 3:
Guardian
Ghost Town
Heretic (Ok, so I cheated... what of it, I like Midship more than any other Halo 3 map...)

Well written, and well explained post =]
I agree whole heartily..
They should also throw a remake of The Pit in for good measure.

What made Halo: CE so good for me was following the story and suprises in store. Who saw the flood coming?
I didn't. I skipped the revealing cinematic in 343 Guilty Spark. When I saw the "chapter" title "The Flood," I thought that I was gonna have to escape the building as it flooded with water. I so didn't expect a virulent space zombie infestation. Seriously.

I agree that Halo: Reach needs to do what Halo: Combat Evolved did. That's not to say it needs to use the same ideas, but rather that it needs to develop a story that's interesting in a way we haven't seen often. We've played the Halo game where the wool was pulled over our eyes and we've played two halo games where the formula involved having the flood pop in halfway through the game, like Halo: Combat Evolved. But Halo: Reach probably doesn't have flood, and probably shouldn't. Different story, different format.

I think it'll be an awesome game though, if only because Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach are a completely different side to the story of Halo, where both recognize the bigger universe and the information we have from the other mediums of Halo story.

I was originally mad at this until I looked it over myself and thought that since they are even mentioning the campaign means they atleast have a focus on it. Also, seeing as this most likely confirms the class-based theory, I hope they include a Skirmish Mode or bots so people who don't have Live (such as myself) can enjoy multiplayer. They did it in Gears of War 2 and that is one reason why I still have it in my hard drive. Though I hope the campaign isn't short and is epic as ever. Heck, I don't care if it as long as Halo 3: ODST since that is around 5-8 hrs. since it looks like it'll be epic! I also, I hope they implement Marty's score not just into the campaign, but also into the multiplayer. That would be awesome.

This information doesn't sound like leaked info.

1. Been confirmed by Microsoft. Is a given.
2. Could be something new. Very vague though so I don't think so.
3. No Duh.
4. Might be new. Many people have already assumed a new engine, or an upgrade.
5. Duh. It's already been guessed at based on the characters that almost seem like classes.
6. Duh.
7. Seeing how ODST is a little darker I would guess the same and maybe more for Reach.
8. Bungie had around 120 employees give or take a few last time I checked. Include Microsoft Game Studio employees and it's a given.

BTW. The word "leaked" is a no no on these forums, and this thread might as well be locked right now.

keep it secret, keep it safe.

halo 3 is technical masterpiece 4- player co-op with SINGLE console(kz2 none), smooth framerate, view distance is huge, sandbox gameplay, and many other things.
I bet there is going to be even better engine with halo: reach

Ok, I'm going to remove the word "leaked", but those are new info in any case, and it's worthy to report them.

1. I wrote "and ok" in fact, we already knew it
2. It's vague, but it's something. I suppose more cooperative...
3. This is kinda a confirm of rumors to me.
4. The new engine is NOT an upgrade of H3 one, it's brand new and re-done ;)
5. For sure it's not an evolution of previous Halo's multiplayer...
6. It's huge stuff
7. I know that will be the darkest game of the Halo universe
8. Bungie is assuming ;)

Thanks for reading.

One thing I don't want it to be is download only. I would like it for retail since it Bungie's next Halo game. That and, as stated before, I don't have Live.

  • 06.17.2009 1:46 PM PDT

This will certainly get my hopes up that they are changing some gameplay mechanics and trying to introduce some really cool stuff. I hope it has a rich campaign and has more interactive stuff, but multiplayer should change a lot as well.

What's so lame about it? It confirms a lot of people's speculations and shows we should have high hopes for the game.

I am going to assume at least some people here have heard of the rumor circulating as to how Microsoft's Natal may be launched next fall with a new version of the Xbox 360 with slightly better hardware to handle better graphics. And while Microsoft has said that Natal will be usable with all current Xbox 360s, they have yet to flat out deny this rumor.

It seems to me that it is not a coincidence that this game would line up with the release of an updated Xbox 360 in fall 2010, especially since it has been stated (supposedly), that it is a new graphics engine. I am in no way suggesting that Reach will use the technology of Natal, I think that would be a fatal mistake on Bungie's part. But, it may take advantage of the new Xbox's hardware if there is some truth to the rumors.

Personally, I am hoping to see the graphics that we were initially promised that can be seen in the Halo 3 announcement trailer. That would be awesome.

We weren't promised those. That was just Bungie showing off what the engine could do. You also have to remember that is a cutscene, with an empty desert, using Halo 2 Banshees and Phantoms. It was easy to assume a tone down with more detailed levels and multiple objects and enemies onscreen alongside HDR lighting. Hopefully, we do get some better graphics and art design though.

There's no new Xbox or hardware upgrade, Natal is developed for ALL the Xbox out there and that will be out there until the end of the console. The next Xbox is scheduled for end 2011, if not 2012 ;)

I heard someone from MS that said the Bungie is thinking to implement in some way Natal in Halo: Reach, but it's very probable that, in the end, they won't use it at all, cause when it will be available it'll be "optional", and not for everyone (while MS is planning to insert it from the beginning in the next console, out of the box)...

So, Reach is only for 360, and in 2010 Bungie can really show all of its power, with or without Natal ;)

-It's more Multiplayer/Online oriented then previous Halo, and the SP Campaign will be something "different" to what we've seen so far with the previous games.
-The multiplayer will be different/new.

I really hope that doesnt mean Natal.
