Halo 3 is for noobs. Gg NoRe.

Good post. The only thing that differs between me and you is that I don't think Halo 3 is good. If anything it's average compared to other game companies that can pump out shooters in a year. Halo 3 was suppose to be epic. Nothing less.

I love halo 1, and halo 2. Halo 3 was not part of the halo series, and neither will Halo: ODST because it uses the same multiplayer as halo 3.

If Halo: Reach is anything like Halo 3 I will not purchase it. However if it is good like Halo 1 and Halo 2 it will be Halo 3 to me.

Well, yeah, I don't think Halo 3 was bad. I think it's A LOT better then Halo 2 instead, but anyway under Halo 1 (in relation betweeen the period of launch, Halo 1 was considerable more shocking...).
I still hope that Halo: Reach will scale my personal chart anyway... :)

whats that ticking sound?

you have a lot of well stated points
I'm just excited because I loved the novel Fall of Reach and a video game based on it has to be awesome, I am also curious as to what the multiplayer will be like.

Whats so special about Halo 1? I just don't get it, almost everyone likes Halo 1 better than Halo 2 or 3. Can someone explain to me why Halo 1 is better

So lets set this straight I betrayed you and your mad....its infection...
do you want to be a zombie ???

Xero Link

Yeah one shot from an over charged Plasma Pistol and their armor falls off...and nothing not even a regenerator will do what an elite hideing from you can....get a shield recharge.

Nothing since the first time I played Assault on the Control Room and cleared the 2nd bridge, just as a was about to turn the corner I heard a roar. I had never experienced anything like a gold elite charging with an energy sword....for me that was the most combat intense level. I want games with those again. Levels with so much scale and challenge.

This. The first time I played Halo: CE, ever, I started on Heroic because I thought I was good enough because I was good at Goldeneye. That was not the case. The first time those Camo Elites came at me I knew this game was hard. And I was glad about that.

EDIT: Halo: Reach must be of a similar difficulty to Halo: CE.

Bungie, please don't dumb the game down, again, like you did with Halo 3! Halo 3's Legendary is like Halo: CE's Heroic. It's annoying.

i really hope they do go all out on halo reach. the little bit of evidence that exists seems to point to reach being squad based, so im hoping that they can pull this off without losing the feel of halo that has been there since halo 1.

True! I'm re-playing Halo CE right now, and EVERY fights I made finished with me gasping for breath, with adrenaline to max and so much need to fight again...

It's really something special still today...

There was something about Halo:CE that made it a perfect storm. it was the only Halo that did not let me down in some way. i really hope that with Halo:Reach that Bungie puts back in the feature where you could punch all the blood out of dead enemys till the ground below turned black.

Oh, I almost forgot.
I'm an inside member of the biggest italian videogames forum community (Forumeye.it), and I've some friends that followed E3-09 directly, and talked with some MS employers in the show, asking about Reach to everyone. They can't say a lot cause it's still everything top secret for now, but that's what they told to me:

-It's an FPS, and not a MMO or similar (and ok)
-It's more Multiplayer/Online oriented then previous Halo, and the SP Campaign will be something "different" to what we've seen so far with the previous games.
-The game is under development since after Halo 3, and for more time then ODST (that is developed by a small part of the team, and it was done in 1 year and an half)
-New graphic engine!
-The multiplayer will be different/new.
-It's the "next big Halo" for Bungie and Microsoft, same importance as an Halo 4
-It's everything "darker" and more serious.
-150 people are working on the Project since 2007

You can trust me or not, you can take those info like rumors or not, but I know my sources and I trust them completely, and Halo: Reach really seems to be huge like we supposed!

I hope that if this is true, which actually seems very true, I hope that in 2 years of development Bungie should try to do a really thoughtfull campaign and MM.

Back on topic, what you have said is so true, I liked Halo CE, I liked better Halo 2 on how we see some covenant story, Halo 3 is huge but it seems like MS or Bungie rushed at making it.

Last week, I figured I'd pop in Halo: CE to play the Campaign again, mostly for nostalgic reasons.

Turns out, I had forgotten how EPIC Halo:CE campaign really was. Honestly, every weapon was useful, every level was amazing (exception: the Library), and it just felt....fun.

I really don't know how to explain it. I'm pretty sure it was the HUGE open environments, and the memorable, distinct levels.

Who could forget Truth and Reconciliation? You were dropped in at night with a Sniper Rifle(with extended ammo) and Night Vision, and you were tasked with taking out as many Covenant as you could, without alarming the rest. And that was just the beginning of the level.

Unforgettable

How bout The Silent Cartographer? Not exactly the best level, but I could replay the opening beach assault countless times, just because it was crafted beautifully. I group of Marines and yourself, charging up an enemy beach head. The quickness of the assault, the frantic firefights.

Brilliant.

Assault on the Control Room? The first level you experience the tank, the massive vehicular battles, the feeling of importance to your objectives. The many times where you could take out a whole army of grunts, just by quietly sneaking around and smacking them while they slept.

Exceptional

Two Betrayals? When everything comes together, you find out the truth. The 4 way battles: Flood, Covenant, Sentinels, and of course you. It was FUN deciding which side to aid when you came across two sided fighting. If done correctly, you could fight only one or two enemies instead of fighting a whole group, by whittling away at both sides. And the wide open feel of flying a banshee around at night.

Amazing

And don't even get me started on the ending. Sheer brilliance. Frantically racing a warthog through a ship to escape?

Masterfully crafted.

Every other Halo game has never had memorable levels such as these. Both Halo 2 and Halo 3 were missing night levels, which I feel greatly added to the mood and tone of Halo 1. Also missing were the stealthy levels, which I'm hoping Halo 3:ODST will have.

TL;DR

Bring back the wide-openness of Halo.
Bring back night levels.
Bring back stealth elements.

And from what I've seen so far, this is essentially what Halo 3:ODST. That's why I'm so excited for this game.

How does Bungie know just what to do to get my heart racing?

I'll never understand.

I never actually got through CE on Legendary, i was always a little too scared to do it. I was reluctant on Halo 2, but easily blew threw that with a little time. But Halo 3, if it's not on Legendary, I'm not playing it. idk, it might be because my skill, but i really don't think so. I need that fear from CE, that ''I'm not gonna play this because I'm gonna fail.''

And to the guy above? If i could choose anything to choose to bring back from CE, it would definitely be the night missions with the night vision sniper.

Dude great post probually the best one if seen!!! Very intresting and good comparisons of the games. i do hope that your souces are right because i would love to see a "darker and more serious" halo game! This will bring back the emotion that was in HaloCE like you said. I cant wait for this game. Expecially on a new graphics engine! =D

I'm actually worried about this game. Halo 2 was a step in the wrong direction and so was Halo 3. I loved both games but I thought Halo CE was so much more. I agree with some of the new feature but the overall gameplay changed in bad ways.

I am going to assume at least some people here have heard of the rumor circulating as to how Microsoft's Natal may be launched next fall with a new version of the Xbox 360 with slightly better hardware to handle better graphics. And while Microsoft has said that Natal will be usable with all current Xbox 360s, they have yet to flat out deny this rumor.

It seems to me that it is not a coincidence that this game would line up with the release of an updated Xbox 360 in fall 2010, especially since it has been stated (supposedly), that it is a new graphics engine. I am in no way suggesting that Reach will use the technology of Natal, I think that would be a fatal mistake on Bungie's part. But, it may take advantage of the new Xbox's hardware if there is some truth to the rumors.

Personally, I am hoping to see the graphics that we were initially promised that can be seen in the Halo 3 announcement trailer. That would be awesome.

Oh, gawd, I hope they accept my old one for a trade. My freaking 10G HDD is killing me.
