Subject: Why reach as a linear prequil doesn't work

We know what happens to reach, we know it will be destroyed. So if the game is totally 100% based on the book and non canon we can expect to play the game but ultimately in the end not win. What kind of game is predetermined from that start to lose? Any 'victory' you have is ultimately going to lead to glassing and any loss will be exactly the same.

There has to be some element in the game to turn it around, so that you can push back the covenenant and save Reach lest this game turn into a mere story cinematic with the player being nothing more than a puppet pushed along their predetermined destiny - to die.

we dont know that the game is going to be 100% based of the book, and to be honest, you shouldn't assume that. besides that, Reach has been confirmed as a prequel and the only way for MC to get to reach is time travel, which i dont think will happen.

A soldiers sacrifice is never forgotten

ummmm, and change the entire halo series. i think not. and then they wouldent have discoverd the halos. and then what, change the games name to "ZoMg ALieNs"? besides its already been confirmed to be a PREQUAL what dont you understand about bungie stating as fact that it is a prequal?

You can't expect to win every time.

Of course we know what happens to reach, but we don't know much of what happens during that time, aside from some small moments with the spartans in the book First Strike.

The trailer leads us into the idea of other spartans on reach aside from the team that Fred had control of.

The element in this game might just be the whole experience of this side of the halo story. It's a really great book and story by the way. It could be like ODST in a sense. It could be a little bit of a mystery.

So don't jump to conclusions on either side of whether or not it's time travel or just plain ol' reach.

Stay open, keep an opinion, just don't try to argue your opinion as logic, it doesn't always work that way.

Also, why make an entire new thread? I mean really one is good enough.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

whell some one survived right? every one new that reach was attacked... i doupt chief had to tell them.. there probibly were survivors that escaped...

Not all of the spartans are accounted for. Maybe whoever we play is unaccounted for and therefore has a chance to survive

I agree. We must have some kind of victory, and I doubt we will play the same events from the novel TFOR.

You know, a story doesn't necessarily have to end with you winning. As long as there is a conflict and a satisfying resolution, then there's potential for good storytelling.

Seems that you dont know what happens to Reach.

Read the damn books.

As for your "playing a game in which you know you will die" argument is also dumb. There is nothing i would like more than to fight the losing battle. Hell, if they make a game about the S-III from Alpha and Beta company i would be the first in line to buy that.

remember children the cake is a lie

u probebly wont be able 2 save Reach because that would change 2 much of. But that dosnt mean u still cant hav some minor victorys that wont change the story 2 much. Also we dont know all that happens on Reach there still could be some big underline story that we dont know.

-You look like you could suck a golf ball through a waterhose.

1. Halo:CE was based off of a book.
2. Everybody knows how much hatred come from hardcore fans when you go away from the book.
3. It isn't the fact that Reach is over-taken, it's the fact that mostly everybody thats read the books has always wanted to see it turned into a game.

No, the book was based off of Halo: CE and I must say that after the Cole Protocol, The Flood was the worst book in the entire book series

There is no time travel...Bungie dosen't like to use that for story telling they have already told us...this we know. Also if you have read the books, you also know that winning isn't everything if you...LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY...Remember that's what Chief Mendez said to John-117.

I think there in lies the key to the story...live to fight another day...
