[quote] Stop trying to apply 'real world' physics to Halo. It's depressing.

Ownt! There is no such thing as "real world" physics in well any game. If it was it'd be like playing in real life I mean who wants to do that?

You do realize that this is a game, Right? Then you bring in laws of Physics into a fictitious world that includes slipspace, cryogenics, etc.

Hobo Grunt's mother died, so everyone thought 'Sum1 ded! This will be funeeh! LAFFF AT ME NOW THAT I MAKE FUN OF DED PEPEL'.

They get a special place in hell.

Bungie couldnt be bothered to completely alter game mechanics (aside from the health bar which was a must-do) just for an expansion.

  • 06.16.2009 11:22 AM PDT

Boom. Headshot!

Haha dude if this is all a matter of physics then screw gravity hammers and ghosts that hover, hell screw it all. It is all make-believe. but thats not my point. Ok so all the things that ODST's do thats so extroardinary is all in firefight. Everything in campaign is normal. ODST's are a lot stronger than we think though. I mean really they fall from the sky and are the Elite marines in UNSC. None of this is a surprise to me I mean it should be easy to transition from ODST's that died alongside us because we were Spartans to ODST's that kick major covenant butt because there is no Spartan around to do any better. if they showed ODST's off in Halo 3 then there would be no point in you being a Spartan, they HAD to die easily to make you look better. Understood?

i guess its just to keep loads of great actions and weapons that you can use in halo games, i mean imagine playing it without being able to board vehicals etc etc, it's just keeps some halo originality.
really good point though

okay dude its called a video game its all fake so just be happy that you can do all of that stuff then try to find small problems wrong comparing real world to a game

  • 06.16.2009 11:35 AM PDT

Mr. Pete

Okay, ODST's are not stronger or as strong as Spartans, because in one of the Halo books Master Chief (AS A KID) gets in a fight with some ODST's and pones them. and no weapons, just hand-to-hand combat. ODST's are just stronger and better than normal Marines. They're the elite group of UNSC, behind the Spartans. (or Master Chief, in later years.) so, yeah. and the game comes out in september, so they're still working on the game, it's not complete.

The average adult male human is 5'9" and weighs 165lbs. The average human (whether he is 'normal' as you say or not) is not capable of holding/firing a chain gun.

Even a chain gun as small as the GAU 2B (5.56, 2000 RPM sustained / 4000 RBM burst) would prove too powerful for the average human to handle without it being mounted.

Though, in the movie The Predator, Jessy levels a patch of jungle with a chain gun (which looks like a hollywood version of the GAU 2B), in now way shape or form, should we confuse Jessy with the average adult male. The dude, afterall, was once a Navy SEAL.

I think most people seemed to have missed the point of this thread. It's not an issue of "physics" so anyone who says "it's a game, things aren't real" can shut up, after 3 people have said something we don't need another 10 repeats.
The problem people have is that ODST's and Marines in previous games have been too weak to carry a sentinal beam let alone a huge turret which has been described as heavy "even for spartens". This is a turret thats feels heavy for someone who can punch through steel.

Posted by: Longsword049
hell i bet i could lift it.

By the way, the issue of firing a gun isn't the lifting element, most of your trouble would come from the recoil. This is why dual weilding is out for ODST's, sure they can lift an smg in one hand easy, but firing it without it ripping your arm off is something else.

Wait I seem to remember this thing that happened, what was it... oh yeah Halo 1! Before he got his swanky new halo 2 armour even cheif couldn't bash his way into vehicles or carry these turrets.

The main reason is because it's a game. In real life, spartans would be way more powerful then they are in the game. They just tone them down for the sake of balance. Have you ever noticed how quickly you can kill a spartan with no shields? It's like they're huge, one ton armor does not even do anything. Like I said, it's just for balance purposes.

Agreed with OP.

Its a game, the world wont explode because something in an awesome game doesn't make sense.

The chief's H2 armor didn't make him stronger, it just made his shields recharge faster. The reason he could not board vehicles is simply because it had not been added into Halo CE.

I re-watched the firefight vid that Bungie showed off at E3. You're right OP. I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out.

Though ODST units are not as strong as a Spartan, I wonder if Bungie did the math in order to determine if the above average special forces unit would be able to carry / fire such a weapon while on the run.

It is also possible that what we witnessed is also a bug which will be squashed between now and 9/22.
