I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

ELITES ARE BACK, thus THE WHOLE GAME WILL BE A PAIN ON LEGENDARY

If done right, I would love to see the Flood on Reach. I think it would be boring only fighting the Covenant...

i agree with you to the extent that fighting the covenant all the time would be boring, but a new enemy apart from the flood would be a lot better in my opinion. i find the flood boring, annoying and a right pain in the bum.

yeah, im sure fighting elites will be harder than the packs of brutes on levels like crows nest and in the towers on the covenant. personally, they are impossible on solo legendary

I disagree, though it certainly is a possibility. I think there is enough continuity confusion going on with the inclusion of the Flood in Halo Wars. I certainly see what your saying, but I think the flood have gotten a little stale. Then again you did say "if done right" so that could make all the difference.

Have you ever played Halo 1?

I think that they were fun as hell in Halo 1, but I agree with you on the Flood that were in H2 and H3. They were boring as hell, and not Flood-like. Flood aren't supposed to look for cover, they're supposed to overwhelm you with numbers, never stopping their rush until you're lying dead beneath their rotting hooves.

Actually Cortana has a "Sister". Also there are other spartans alive after Halo: CE. One I believe is Linda, or the one put in the cryo tube. Between Halo 1&2 MC goes back to Reach and rescues the rest of the Spartans and Dr. Hasley who survived.

LOL Were you kidding when you posted this?

Fighting the covenant as we have in the other games might get boring to some. But if you've read the book then you'll know we won't be fighting the "small" numbers of Covenant we've seen in the other games. We'll be fighting masses and masses of Covenant.

I just want to clear this up for anyone who doesn't understand, as quite a few people have made this mistake.

Bu Cotana equivalent i meant a level equally as bad as the penulrimate level to halo 3's campaign. The level where you have to rescue Cortana from the crashed flood ship, High Charity. Not another AI in the game. Another really bad, almost impossible level to complete on solo legendary. But not an AI. Honestly. Read it and understand the thread.

You tell us to learn about Halo Reach, while you are actually telling us to learn about Halo: The Fall of Reach.

The two are not necessarily related.

Yeah but isn't it kind of obvious that the game will be directly related to the book? Seeing as though the Spartans on the banner are the Chief's team and the only time they were all alive was during the events of Fall of Reach. ( Go to this website for proof http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=33563678) Doesn't that kind of point towards the game being set during the events of the book?

I'm not telling you to learn about Halo Reach or Fall of Reach, but rather to listen to my theory and give people hope that the Flood may not be in Reach. And also to teach people about the Haloverse and have a successful thread. (This is my first, and not going badly if i do say so myself)

Nothing said here is definitive proof that your theory is correct, it's just taking someone else's assumptions and using them as cold hard proof.

Couldn't it be possible that those spartans are spartans that have never really been featured, who are actually unaccounted for?

Fred didn't know for sure who lived and died, he just lost contact with them all.

The explaination for Flood in Halo Wars is fairly simple. We know that the Flood are on various Forerunner occupied planets and installations, thus their presence in Halo Wars isnt anything ridiculous.

The part where people seem to be getting stuck is that 'They knew about the Flood before Halo: CE, so why were they surprised?!?!?1!11?'

When they use the FTL drive to blow up the Forerunner fleet in Halo Wars, they condemned themselves to sub-light and relativistic speeds so as far as we are aware, to this date (Halo: Reach), they haven't encountered any human occupied territory, so no-one but they know of the Flood.

I think there is a possibility of the Flood being introduced but i don't see how they could do it without a kind of [i]deus ex machina[\i] style intervention. More likely something will happen with that shard or whatever it was in that cavern the spartans end up in, been awhile since i read the book. Possibly some transportation effect or maybe a new Forerunner enemy, who knows. Wait and see.

Also, nearly every thread in this forum is an assumption (except those wishlists) and they all believe they are right dont they?

Well only the stuff from First Strike really matters, and Joshua, Fred and Kelly didn't actually fight any of those 10,000 troops, they just flew over them and tossed a nuke up into the ships' gravity lift... the part with the Wraiths would be pretty cool, though.

More than likely. It happens to pretty much every game, there's just one level nobody likes to play.

And no, not every Halo game needs to be fighting a three-front war. Covenant are fine as the only enemy.

thank you. finally someone is bringing this thread back to the original topic. and i also agree on the covenant as the only enemy.

By Cortana equivalent I did not mean another Cortana, I meant a level equally as bad as the pen-ultimate level to Halo 3's campaign. Also Cortana does not have a "sister", moreover a mother, the women (Dr Something or other if I remember correctly, who initiated the Spartan Project) who used memories of her brain to create the AI that became Cortana and her "sisters".

To adress your second point some Spartans may still be alive, but I happen to know the Spartan on the left, Sam, who was John's best friend, died activating a nuke on a Covenant ship, as his helmet was pierced and suffocated or something

I don't like you criticizing Cortana as being a bad level. I'm assuming, like most people, you didn't like the level mainly because of it's insane difficulty. I'm also going to take a gander and say that you didn't like Halo:CE's Library level either. The point of the level, beyond your objective, was to really fight the flood as they are: an endless flood of enemies. Unlike the other species, or parts of the game, you can eliminate everything and not have to worry about respawning enemies. What Cortana and The Library did was keep players on their toes. It reminds us, on a Halo storyline level, that the flood truly needs to be stopped.

Cortana, the character, has one sister. Her older sister was a prototype. Speaking of which, if the game takes place during Reach Cortana and the Master Chief are alive and well. Of course, the best we get from these two is probably a cameo as this game is not part of the story arch from the Halo trilogy.

Which brings me to the silhouettes. I don't think it is entirely fair to confirm who is who mainly because we don't know who they really are. Keep in mind that all of the Spartan Mark V armor is identical. Those people are clearly not identical. You could try and make a guess off of their weapons, but most Spartans didn't have a preferred weapon as their standard armament consisted of the assault rifle and pistol. The only Spartan that doesn't necessarily follow this pattern is Linda mainly because she is also described has having a sniper rifle.

Point is, Bungie didn't half-@ss the level Cortana and we can't be sure those silhouettes are who we think they are. A lot of things happened on Reach that weren't addressed in the books, and that's pretty much the only knowledge we can base it off of. Bungie can throw whatever they want at us because it is their story. If I recall it threw a lot of people off when they saw marines with a battle rifle in Halo Wars and Brutes present at Harvest.

Just be careful in what you think you know.

  • 06.18.2009 9:23 AM PDT

I whole-heartedly agree: Cortana was one of the best story-telling levels ever. I personally think at least one of those armors could be a modified Mark 1,2, or3 but it is just an assumption on my part. I think that the part where Kelly, Fred, and Joshua nuked the Ship was bad-ass, and that would be extremely cool to play.

I disagree. Many other threads have proven that all the Spartans in the are recognisable, with the Chief in the centre. Now where would be the sense in putting the Chief's Spartan team on the cover of a game where the you play as a different team?
Those people are under the suspicion that Halo REACH will be about Halo: The Fall of Reach, rather than the fall of the planet Reach (which occurs as a flashback in the beginning few chapters of First Strike). Since the trailer shows us the fall of Reach (and "falls" 2010 probably refers to the Spartans falling from their Pelican, like the ODSTs dropping in their drop pods for ODST), it's safe to assume that's what the game will be about. And the Chief didn't fight on the surface of Reach when it fell. He was on one zero-gee space mission which lasted 15 minutes, then he left for Halo (Halo 1).

Also, it couldn't be the other main Spartans if Sierra-259 and -320 are Spartans, since those two weren't with Team Alpha or Team Gamma. Team Delta were crippled from the fall to the surface. Team Beta is the most likely team, since it's the only one with at least 5 Spartans who are combat-effective on Reach.

yeah but between halo 1 and 2 the chief went to Reach to rescue Dr Halsey and the AI's. Also they're on the cover for gods sake. Of course you're going to play as them!

See MLG Cheehwawa, I'm not the only one who believes this. Your theory is just as good as ours. Our logic thinking that the game will be about the book FoR is not flawed. Also the banner is Sam, Kelly, Linda, Fred, and John so get over the fact that your wrong.

JCTehPro and anyone else, don't even bother fighting with this guy. I have tried and its and un-winnable war.

Seeing as though Halo: Reach is almost definately a prequel to Halo: CE (The characters on the banner are all Spartans who were not alive after CE. Which makes it a prequel. And no, the one on the left is not an Elite. Read the other topics in this forum and actually learn something about Halo: Reach) does this mean no Flood....

Why?

The Flood was only introduced half way through CE, once on Halo (Installation 04) But will it be on Reach?

I hope not...

So does this mean that there will be no equivalent to Cortana in Reach? Well, there is always the possibility of a new, just as annoying enemy being introduced. Or just a really crap level which is almost impossible on solo legendary. Or maybe every level will be challenging and fun, not once being a pain to complete? Well, thats almost impossible, as people over exaggerate the bad points and make a mediocre level as horrible as Cortana.

But what could be Worse than the Flood?

The main enemy in Halo 3 may have been the Covenant but the last level involved the Flood. And was the cause of the worst level in the history of Video Gaming. So what could be worse? There is absolutely no way of telling. We can only wait and see. But until then, lets hear your ideas for new enemies and what can take up the gap for the most annoying enemy in the Haloverse.

Yes Cortana isn't very fun, but the artwork is great and very detailed. If you're having trouble, grab a piece of Active Camo equipment.
